I’ve been wanting to dress like Mrs. Roper lately. *shrugs shoulders*
I’ve probed the depths of my mind trying to find a reason why I’ve been wanting to rock her style (you might remember her from Three’s Company infamy!), and the most rational reason is the weather.
When it’s hella hot and you don’t have air conditioning in your house, the idea of wearing a big, breezy gown that’s flow-y, isn’t too clingy, and has a fun pattern and perhaps pockets (POCKETS!) and a ruffle or two sounds very appealing (note: it may also have a hem that lightly dusts the floor).
Maybe I’ll eventually come to my senses and seek out a chic black maxi dress, but for now, it’s MRS. ROPER FTW! 🙂
A friend of mine mentioned that Ross has some good cotton caftans, so I popped in and found a couple crazy and colorful ones that were less than $10 each!
I couldn’t decide between these green and burgundy numbers (and was super shocked that the bottom hem didn’t drape along the ground ’cause I was in flats), but ultimately nixed both because neither of them had tassels, fringe or ruffles…and if I’m going to wear a muumuu or something similar, it’s gonna have at least one of those things.
Also, the women’s dressing room at Ross, OMG! It was like walking into a wet, sweaty sock that had been sealed in a dirty underwear drawer for 10 years. (Fun fact: stinky places severely mess with one’s muumuu decision making powers.)
Another friend suggested an online store called Lava Hut, which has some really cute prints, styles and, yes, ruffles. LOTS OF RUFFLES. I like these black muumuus because I really like the idea of wearing a muumuu that make me look like Mrs. Roper working at a MAC counter.
And then someone showed me THIS, and the world came to a standstill…
For $300, you can get a custom caftan using a fabric created from pictures of your pet (!). I kindasorta wish I’d gotten married in this? Between the crazy print and the pearls, it’s purr-fection.
Of course, Mrs. Roper’s style wouldn’t be Mrs. Roper’s style if there weren’t any chunky costume jewelry involved, and that’s where these pieces from Sugarfix by Baublebar come into play. I saw these at Target yesterday!
I’m assuming that all women go through this phase? Like when you’re a kid and you want a pony? No? Oh, so it’s just me then… 🙂

I’m so pro-wearing caftans. I bought three last year–one which my youngest daughter stole from me. (We’re the same height and she’s only 11.) They’re so breezy and flowy and colorful. I forgot all about Mrs. Roper’s style. Now I want to get a big beaded necklace. I’ve also been getting half caftans–same style but only comes to the top of the thighs. They’re great as bathing suit cover ups and just fancy blouses.

Those look so comfortable!! I’ve been into tunic-length tees and leggings lately. (Not leggings with stirrups, though. I will only flash-back to the 80’s so far, lol.)

How funny, I was just watching some Three’s Company reruns on TV the other day. The Logo channel seems to play them fairly often. The show is quite outdated in many ways, but I sorta remember watching it as a kid so it’s kind of nostalgic.
I had no idea they even sold muumuus in stores! In this crazy heat, it seems like they might be somewhat comfortable since they’re so breezy. That cat one though…yeah, I might end up with that at some point.

its’s a rayon/poly I think more flowy than soft, but feels great to me
came in petite lengths so that worked just right for me

I love Three’s Company! Those ones at Ross were pretty darn cute for the price. I might stop and grab a few just to bum around the house in or use as a cover up for the beach/pool!

At the Ross near my house the muumuus were kinda hidden. I thought I’d find them in beachwear but they were all in the dress section, and they were all grouped together as “One size fits all” instead of the individual sizes. There was a big selection though and all reasonably priced! Hope you can find something you like. 🙂

We now have Sephora and Ulta – and I hardly ever go – but if we had Target… ah, man – you wouldn’t be able to keep me out!!! I like Ross too–

OMG, Karen, that was hilarious! Now I have the Three’s Company theme stuck in my head! I think it would be great if you ordered a caftan covered in Tabs face. Does anyone else think the cat on the caftan looks slightly ticked off? Hysterical! How great is it that Baublebar has a line at Target? Really like the black/floral caftans – hope you get one and wear it to the MAC counter – be sure to take pictures if you do! I am soo sorry you do not have air conditioning. It has been in the 90’s for the past several weeks and we are not even to the first day of summer, so I cannot even imagine how miserable that is! Hope it gets better! You really have the Mrs. Roper style down. I’d totally forgotten about the chunky jewelry until you mentioned it. Then I was like “of course! It’s KEY to that look!”. 🙂 I’m all about the Mrs. Roper comfort but I express it with mesh Nike shorts and dri fit t-shirts. HAHA!
