I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately because the strays at the edge of my forehead no longer do my bidding. No matter what products or tools I use, I just can’t coax them into submission.
Part of me is trying to accept this reality of hair sticking out at odd angles ALL THE FREAKING TIME, but part of me is also like, “We live in modern times! This cannot be the reason why I decide to give up completely!” LOL.
Anyway, a good hair day for me means I’m wearing my hair down, and the following is happening:
- Aforementioned bits and bobs of stray hair are flat and smooth and going in the direction of my choosing.
- Some lift at the roots! Love me some root lift.
- No renegade ramen noodle silvers sticking out at odd angles.
- Having the long layers in the front curled away from my face (thank goodness for curling irons), so I don’t have to spend the day pushing hair out of my eyes.
- Strands that feel soft and not crunchy. I can’t deal with crispy hair; I suspect it was because I spent my formative years dousing myself with extra hold hairspray and that trauma has stayed with me.
What’s a good hair day like for you?

P.S. TGIF!

I always have a good hair day the day before a scheduled haircut! Then I’m thinking, do I really need a haircut?! Then I get the haircut and it takes me a while to grow into it.
My hair is a bit wavy, but takes far more effort to wear wavy than straight. Honestly I shower at night, brush and add oil, and hope for the best. On a good day my hair looks relatively straight with some volume, not sticking out weird. Also i don’t know what magic my current hairstylist works, but my hair lies a lot smoother with my current cut.
Getting my curls to cooperate! It’s gotta be the right ratio of hair product or my hair says nope I will do what I want! Yes it talks back lol
Let’s not take humidity into consideration either lol
Getting the curls to cooperate and not still be crunchy after scrunching out the crunch. After I chopped from mid-back to chin length months ago, I’m not sure I’ve fully adjusted to the amount and types of products I need. For instance, I’ve used gel or cocktailed gel and cream for many years. Now the gels I’ve used in the past either build up or stay crunchy. I’m going to try one last cocktail (and using a lot less), but I have to consider giving up the gel I think. I do have a haircut coming up though and I need to go back to alternating just a trim and a trim with a CG-friendly thinning out for my very thick hair.
A good day is when my fine waist length hair holds the waves from being slept in with braids, has root lift and also width next to my eyes. Doesn’t happen that often!
