I don’t know why, but when spring comes around, I get the sudden urge to chop my hair off. The need to get bangs is particularly strong in me right meow, LOL! May this post serve as a reminder to resist the urge.
- What possessed me to do this!? Why did I ever think that bangs would be a good idea? I’m never, EVER doing this ever again. (Side note: If I had a dime for every time I said that during this process I’d be a rich woman, LOL!)
- What the hell!? My leg hair, the hair on my big toe, my mustache, even MY CHIN — why does the hair grow so fast everywhere else EXCEPT for where I actually want it to grow??
- I should invest in a company that makes bobby pins, seeing as how I’m probably keeping the entire bobby pin industry in business. I walk around leaving a trail of bobby pins in my wake! I find them in the shower, the corners, the kitchen counter, my nightstand, and I may or may not have found a bunch around my feet in HIIT class at the gym.
I also may or may not have seriously considered picking one of them up and using it to put my bangs back.
- This freakin’ cowlick! How many cans of super extra hold hairspray will this take!?
- If I put on this cray-cray pair of false lashes, it’ll distract people from looking at my cowlick. Yeah, that seems perfectly logical…
- Good grief. I’ve only been growing out these bangs for five days, but it feels like FIVE YEARS.
- I feel like a shaggy sheep dog…
- I am starting to feel personally offended by my baby hairs, because they absolutely refuse to listen to me. RUDE.
- What should I do today to get these out of my face? Braid them? Twist them? Slick them back? Wear a headband? A hat? F*ck it. Maybe I’ll just wear that itchy blue wig I got from Party City, since that would be easier than dealing with these bangs.
- I’m never, ever, EVER getting bangs ever again.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

You’re so funny, Karen! LOL I have always resented the constant trimmings my bangs needed, and the rolled eyes from the stylist when i went in for a simple bangs trim. They never stayed at a decent length long and I always butchered the myself. I finally grew them out during Covid. Was thinking about cutting bangs again but now I remember why not! Thanks Karen
Karen, you are cracking me up!! Last Summer, I decided to get bangs too. Bad idea!! I ended up getting my hair cut shorter to have it blend in more with the bangs. It was awful!! It took me the rest of the Summer to grow them out. I told myself…no more bangs. You might just need a good haircut, and you’ll feel better. Of course with no bangs…LOL!!
I haven’t had bangs since I was a little kid, so I’m sure that was my mother’s idea. I’ve had a center or near-center part most of my life, and in the last several years, since coloring my hair, I’ve just brushed it over the top of my head and put a hair comb in the back to keep it in place (can’t have a part when coloring hair, because the white roots show in about 3 days). I’ve always thought that most women who have bangs, especially if they are over 40, are mainly trying to cover forehead wrinkles. Botox, for those who can afford it, has largely eliminated that.
I have not had bangs since high school…and I refuse to go back. I do love wearing wigs with bangs when we cosplay. We dress up for different Comic Cons and several Halloween events, so I own a lot of cool wigs with bangs. We recently dressed in Stranger Things costumes and I was Chrissy. The bangs on the wig looked great, but they were driving me crazy by the end of the day. Maybe wear a wig or clip on bangs for a day to remember?
Wow, so much shade here for bangs! 😄I’m sticking up for the Fringe Brigade; speaking for myself (for whom fringe frames my face so much nicer than it getting lost in a sea of forehead) and because Kylie Minogue, Dakota Johnson, Zoey Deschanel, Heidi Klum can’t be wrong! ☺️
My goodness, this post was hilarious! Thanks! And good luck resisting the urge, it’s totally a real thing to get that urge and it’s strong.
Uhm, yes to all of this. That’s why I keep telling my stylist to make sure she never cuts the hair around my face shorter than lower edge of my cheek bones. I swear my chin hair grow ten times faster than the hair on my head. And the never fall out either. Sigh.
I feel this! If it helps, here’s what I do. I ask myself if I can answer Yes to two questions:
1) Do I really, really want bangs?
2) Do I have the patience to style them?
I can only ever say Yes to #1, so I haven’t gotten bangs in years LOL! But if you can answer Yes to both…
