1. Red lips do so much heavy makeup lifting.
You totally have the option to phone the rest of your look in if ya want! With red lips, I know I can get away with wearing minimal makeup on the rest of my face — brows, mascara, concealer and bronzer.
2. There are so many different shades of red.
Blueish reds, orangey reds, reddish corals, pinkish reds, reddish browns… Seriously, SO MANY SHADES OF RED! Side note: do you tend to favor a certain type of red? Lately I’ve been into of reddish corals.
3. Red lips are classic, but at the same time they also say, “I can and will cut you if need be.”
I’m kinda kidding but also not. Red lipstick is a gentle reminder to the rest of the world that you are not to be messed with.
4. There’s always a new red to look forward to.
Some might say “there’s always a new red to covet,” and in my case, that’s so true. (Here’s looking at you, Dior 999.)
5. There are so many different levels of coverage and intensity.
Do you like sheer or full-on reds? I love an opaque, matte red myself!
6. Red lips are confident.
For me, red lipstick is a form of makeup armor. When I wear red lips, I feel like a gladiator who is ready to handle all the nonsense coming my way!
7. Red lips are unforgettable.
Oh, and if you live in the suburbs like I do where nobody hardly wears makeup or dresses up, they are especially unforgettable. The general fashion vibe in my town is Lululemon-slash-granola chic. I’m by no means fancy, but whenever I show up with red lips to a school or a dance studio function, I’m suddenly the “glamorous mom,” and I’m not mad about it.
Why do you love red lipstick?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

You look gorgeous, Karen!!!
Thank you, Martyna! How is your Wednesday going? Good, I hope!
That red is gorgeous on you! Is that the Dior? I also loved Monday’s strawberry red in the header for the Monday Poll. (Laura Mercier?)
I love red, but it’s hard to wear now that I’m older. It wants to bleed into the lines above my upper lip. Ugh. Still working on finding the right lip primer/liner to prevent that.
When Dear Daughter was in 4th grade a new family moved to town and I remember the mom because she wore no makeup except for a red lip every day. She rocked that red lip!
Thank you! No, not Dior (not yet at least, haha). It’s a classic — Stila Beso!
And yes, the red from Monday Poll was Laura Mercier Clique. How is your Wednesday going? I’m taking a little break from work and making cabbage rolls. Random, I know, but I have a huge cabbage in my fridge that my neighbor gave me that needs to be cooked.
I’ve never tried Stila Beso. It’s liquid yes? I remember a fashion blogger I used to follow (can’t remember her name) used to wear it in all her posts. It looked great on her fair skin with blonde hair. I miss the glory days of Stila. Sadly I tossed all my shadows from that era.
Oooh stuffed cabbage rolls! I grew up on those. I can remember my mom coring the cabbage, carefully peeling off the leaves and parboiling them for a minute or so to make them easier to roll. She even flat trimmed the center rib on the outer leaves. Then she’d pop them in her ginormous slow cooker and let them cook all day. What are you filling yours with?
Same problem here…at 46 the lipstick tends to bleed into the upper lip lines. I use an transparent lip liner to prevent this. Mine is from ArtDeco (German brand) but I‘m sure you‘ll find sth similar in the States.
Despite the fact that I rarely wear red, I think a red lip and mostly bare face is so chic. I’d love some rec’s on a good brick red!
Hi 👋
I agree with Martyna, you look fabulous in this photo.
Number 3 and 6 hold true for me. I wore red Monday and felt fierce and yet pretty in a way I don’t always si ut helped me with some tough conversations that were necessary in the work day. Haha.
I also feel red lips help make my thin upper lip look more obvious. Not plump, but it’s more there!
Have a great day everyone!
For all of these reasons, but especially for the confidence boost. Red lips are my way to prepare myself for all the b*shit I have to handle throughout the day…
Red lips look great on you. I thought you even rocked the green, a couple of years ago. 🙂 Red lips on me would totally give the “I’ll cut you” vibe, because after about 5 minutes I’d look like Heath Ledger’s Joker. HAHA!
