Beyond the Lights. I think it just came out last night. El Hub and I went, and I really enjoyed it.
I just caught myself because I almost wrote a spoiler… Don’t worry, I won’t. 🙂
It was directed by the same woman who directed Love and Basketball, Gina Prince-Bythewood, which I also liked, so if you liked that, I think you’d also like this. It’s about a young, hyper-managed pop star whose every action is spun for the tabloids or gossip blogs, or covered up, and everything has PR implications — who she’s dating, where she’s going for lunch, what she’s wearing. It exhausts her.
She also has no creative control over her career either, at all, and the things she wants aren’t compatible with the manufactured image that her manager (her mom, in this case, played by Minnie Driver) and her record label are trying to create.
She starts to unravel until… Cue the romantic part of the story!
It sounds like it could go Lifetime movie in a second, but it doesn’t. Not really. It’s a little cheesy, but it’s not super cheese. You get a very clear sense of who these characters are, and they don’t seem wooden or one-dimensional. They feel like real people.
Go see it and have fun!
It probably won’t win any awards, except maybe for a couple of acting performances (Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Minnie Driver are great!) or set the literati ablaze, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.
After the movie we just came home, read a little on the couch and went to bed. I woke up early this morning because El Hub was tossing and turning, so I read for about an hour, and now I’m here with you. 🙂

Hi karen, hope you are having a great weekend. I usually go to bed around 2-3am honestly. My 4 year old is in bed at 11pm, and I put my 4 month old baby to bed a little earlier than that, around 930. So once they are both in bed I take a few hours to myself. But it’s not that big of a problem seeing as my son doesn’t wake up until around 10am.
I always use the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade! It is so easy to use and really pulls my whole look together!

i wear foundation daily, cause my skin is not perfect and it gives me a bit of confidence.
I went to bed at midnight but then woke up at 4am because I was craving orange juice and then took 2-3 hours to call back asleep.
I wear concealer almost everyday. My go-to under eye and spot concealer is It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Concealer in the squeeze tube. I have really dry skin and this is the only one I’ve found that has high coverage but is still moisturizing enough for me.
i think everyone should check out the Anna Sui eyeshadow palette its not talked about alot you can get it on amazon, its amazing and hard to find in stores. Also I just got the Venus palette by LimeCrime its beautiful!! figured i’d let you ladies know 🙂

I wear concealer and powder every day because I have pretty gross, acne-prone, oily skin. I desperately need a new concealer though, I’ve been using the same tube of Hard Candy Glamoflauge for like, 2 years!
Lately when I’ve exerted myself to put on makeup, it’s been Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics color concentrate in “Miriam” every day. I love it for a plummy wash of shadowy, contouring color under my cheekbones!! <3

I can’t go without concealer
I could answer so many of your questions this week, but I’ll limit myself to two. I think I have very good penmanship. After all I went to Catholic elementary school and can remember have my knuckles rapped with a ruler for not having my letters sit correctly on the line on the paper. There were also the endless drills of drawing rows and rows and rows of differing loops on the paper. It was all supposed to help us have perfect penmanship.
My very favorite month is October. I love autumn with all the beautifully colored leaves on the trees. (Although that does happen later here in CA.) I love Octoberfests. And it doesn’t hurt that my birthday falls in October either.

An item I use everyday is mascara – I go through a rotation of them though! One is not nearly enough. Right now I really like Lancôme Grandiose but it’s been a bit rough on my lashes.
One of my unique attributes is that I can blink my eyes super quickly! Yes, I know, it sounds lame written out but it’s kinda freaky in real life.
One piece of makeup that I wear every day w/o fail is lip balm. Lip balm either goes on under my other lip products or I wear it alone when I’m just loafing around at home. Keeping my lips hydrated and protected is very important to me and lip balm (and water) do that very thing.

I have a great picture of my mom from back in the day when she lived in NYC. It’s winter and she is in a full-on, full-length shearling lined leather coat and knitted cap. Shaft would have loved her!
The one makeup that I wear daily is a BB cream or foundation to even-out my skin tone!

I wear a lip balm or lip gloss on a daily. My favorite lip gloss that is kind of my lips-but-WAY-better would be Buxom’s Full on lip cream in Mudslide. I first got it as a sample from Sephora and the truth is, I didn’t choose that one but I guess since they didn’t have the sample that I wanted they put the Buxom lip cream instead and I’m glad that they did because it’s my go to, my ride or die!
I wear loads of concealer every day- mainly NARS Creamy Concealer. That and Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Trench to cover up the visible veins near my eyes!

But I watched a movie with Mr. Loca, which is a rare occasion nowadays. We watched “The Hunter” with William Dafoe. I really like WD, and the pictures of the landscape were stunning, but the movie in general was a bit disappointing.
I didn´t really get into the characters, and even though I am usually highly emotional during movies, when two of them died I was just: Whatever, we saw that coming.
But it spiked wanderlust. We missed out on Tasmania when we went to Australia 2012. One more reason to go back!
I have really nice handwriting. I do well in both print and cursive writing. Sadly penmanship is becoming a lost art, sigh :(.

This year I’ve been wearing foundation every day. On weekends and nothing to do days I still feel the need to put on some light powder foundation over a freshly moisturized face to even out things and look refreshed and young-ish. Last night I slept at 2am for no good reason. I got stuck in the youtube beauty vlog rabbit hole. I can’t get enough of declutter and project pan videos.
Well not sure about a unique attribute, but I have naturally curly hair that is also naturally silvery gray. And at the ripe old age of 36 I’m growing out my natural colour! Naturally silver & curly hair at 36!

Every day that I leave the apartment, even to go for a walk, I wear at least a BB/CC cream with mineral SPF (set with some kind of powder), tinted brow gel, and tinted lip balm with SPF as my minimal makeup — if I’m going to work, there’s at least mascara, tightlining, a light sweep of some kind of cheek color, and lipstick. The idea that you should wear less makeup as you get older is a myth –your complexion (or mine, at least!) needs more help than ever.
My least minimum for makeup is either mascara or a bit of blush, depending on how I feel. Sometimes I just feel like a ghost and need some blush just to look a bit alive!

I need the Venus Limecrime palette in my life now. And also, I’m loving allll of the matte lippies. I didn’t used to care much for them but for some reason they clicked for me the other day and now I can’t get enough. Maybe I should have more “good lip days” haha

i always have to put on lipstick/lipgloss. i have a pretty neat handwriting, i study caligraphy. stay late every night, and wake up early in the morning that’s why i need my coffee every single day.
My handwriting is pretty bad. I had a few problems with my handwriting in grade school, but now it’s somewhat legible. Thank goodness I have to type almost all of my homework now!

I have a French Bulldog by the name of Coco. She is 2 years old, has black and white spots and big eyes. She is beautiful.
I wear foundation and blush everyday, most of the time with bronzer too. Not because I feel I need to but just because I find apply them fun and it gives me something to motivate myself in the mornings (I hate getting up!)
My penmanship stinks. If I concentrate I can make it look nice, but it is usually all over the place. If I stuck with being a teacher I would have been one of those teachers that people wondered if I ought to be teaching children the basics of the 3 R’s (reading, writing, arithmetic).

My penmanship is something I take pride in. As a kid I always tried to reinvent my handwriting every year. As soon as my classmates would start copying it, I would reinvent it again. Over the years I have had a collection of handwriting so I can’t say I have my fixed handwriting. As a designer today, it really does come in handy!

I almost always wear tinted moisturizer. Previously it had been the Nars one, but I just got the Tarte tinted BB cream and I am LOVING it! It doesn’t make me feel like I need powder as much as the Nars one did.

I don’t think there is any piece of makeup I wear everyday (I don’t wear foundation, mascara, or eyeshadow). My most worn is probably MAC Viva Glam I – my perfect red! I wear it probably 2-3 times a week. I’ll probably wear it on Tuesday to feel festive for my birthday, since it’s not a really exciting year (27).

I am a seeeeeerious mascara junkie. Even if I’m staying in all day doing laundry and dishes and balancing my checkbook, I gotta have it. Right now I’m layering two and loving it: two coats of L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions, topped with one coat of Maybelline The Colossal. Boom. Like falsies. But no falsies because I’m awful at applying them

My most unique attribute is my body shape. I used to have bad self-esteem issues about my body because it was curvier than all of the girls I went to highschool with but now I love my body. It is really feminine and I have learned that being healthy is the best look you can have.

My favourite makeup tool is the BeautyBlender, which does a great job with all of my fundations.
My two favorite foster kittens are getting spayed tomorrow. Nervous.
I have worn the Tarte BB creams, either the one that used to be the tinted moisturizer or the BB/ primer thing. I love both of those and I don’t have perfect skin so I need some evening out. I also wear a tarte blush every day. Those are my two musts, other than that I always throw something on my lips, be it a korres lip butter or some other balm.
