The last time I took a trip with her, her makeup bag was this teeny, tiny thing smaller than an envelope (!), and I brought a train case bursting at the seams (of course).
(Oh, and um…the trip was only two days.)
I think you can guess which camp I’m in. 🙂 Deciding what to bring, and what not to bring, is not my forte, because I can easily justify bringing…oh, just about anything.
NO, SERIOUSLY.
Anyway, I’m trying to do better on my trip to Hawaii, since the baby and I will be sharing a suitcase, and she’s a total clotheshorse. LOL!

My former location-independent, freelance life trained me to be a minimalist. I had to pack (1) pro makeup/hair kit for shoots & short films (at one point in included an airbrush machine; (2) dance teaching clothes; (3) dance costumes; (4) “normal” clothes; and (5) my own “normal” and stage makeup. All in a hand-carry with which I could traipse between the Montreal-D.C. roundtrip Megabus, New York subway, Washington D.C. Amtrak, and Philly SEPTA. O_o

I recently got the charlotte tilbury beauty glow palette with eye shadows blush bronzer highlighter. It’s perfect for travel ! And those only 5 min in the morning days! It’s very pretty and staying power was good for the eye shadows IMO!

I tend to pack the correct amount of makeup and brushes. I always overdo it on the clothes lol.
*raises hand* I’m a chronic over packer, however I can get a LOT in a bag. My husband has come to expect that I will be prepared for anything. I have a really hard time choosing what makeup to bring. It never fails that I end up wanting the palette I didn’t bring.

This is fun, tomorrow I’ll putting makeup on a gal for a friend’s photo shoot and we haven’t choose tomorrow’s look so I grabbed all my stuff and the kitchen sink; but in real life I’m more about “downsizing” my makeup bag (the essentials are marked with an *, and it’s what I carry for a weekend if there isn’t any big event):
-Foundation
-Silica powder* (Home girl needs his soft focus)
-Brows*
-Bronzer*
-Blush* (for more days I always pick at least two or a palette to save space)
-Tinted lip balm*
-Lipstick
-Highlighter
So yes for a lazy weekend I can get away with five makeup items, but if we talk about skincare I always carry all my stuff. And for clothes I always carry an extra outfit that can work for a semi formal event and an extra pair of underwear.
I didn’t realize they were CC creams, I thought they were concealers,they’re way too cute.
I used to always overpack, but a six weeks road trip in a campervan with my daughter taught me to be more streamlined.
I totally don’t. I’m travelling between Britain and Greece a lot and hate having heavy bags. Only when I have a three week stay somewhere will I take more with me, but again, not more than hubby does for example.
For clothes: I somehow always manage to simultaneously overpack while never bringing enough options. I blame it on my ‘weather amnesia’. It’s like I never remember what 60-75 degrees feels like and I end up packing for the dead of winter. (Just in case it’s chilly, right?)
For makeup: I try to stick to the basics. That’s usually tinted moisturizer, one eyeshadow quad or palette, one blush, powder, one eyeliner, mascara and a few lipstick options. And all my basic brushes. I do like the idea of cream products that cut down on the need for brushes, but I haven’t found any that I love as much as my powder makeup. Might need to try Nudestix or Kjær Weis.
Loving the travel series, btw! Do you have any in-flight skin care tips? I’m still trying to find a way to keep my skin from getting so dry and irritated on long flights.
I almost always take too much. I’ve been working on paring it down. I’m better than I was a couple years ago. I think my anxiety disorder always wants me to be prepared for any contingency, so it’s hard going.
I got a Makeup Geek empty Z palette that I filled with shadows, blush and highlighter. Then I bring my pencil products and a few brushes and I’m set!!
I’ve cracked this problem by buying a fancy Christian Dior travel palette from an airport. Since it is a travel palette it packs liner, bronzer (for me, others might call it powder), blush, eyeshadows, lipgloss and mascara into one small case. I don’t use this palette except when travelling, so it always feels fresh and special even though the colors are very basic. In addition to this palette, I have lip balm, concealer, pressed powder, eyebrow pen. Maybe something extra, but the whole does fit into a small space.
Also, it helps to know that if I find myself missing something, cosmetics is the perfect thing to shop when travelling and forgetting something would be a very good reason to shop…
I finally figured it out last time I went on a 3 day trip a few weeks ago. I did my makeup right before leaving the house and I only took what I used. No extras. It worked out just fine. In fairness, there were no special events planned that would require a fancy look, but I think if I had added a red lipstick I still would have been okay.
