- Rosie has a mysterious benefactor! Someone slipped a can of Fancy Feast in my mailbox yesterday. Does this mean that I’ve officially reached iconic cat lady status? Maybe?
- Rosie’s new favorite place to fall asleep at night is right next to my head. She presses her tiny little body right up against my hair, so her purring practically enters my brain, ha ha ha!
- I found a new-to-me artist called Snakes and Roses on Instagram who creates beautiful, old timey style art that combines cats with mystical elements. A few of my favorites:
- I read a story recently about a mom with a young child who’s daughter had a hard time getting ready for school in the morning. Her daughter would fight her every step of the way, from getting out of bed, to changing, eating breakfast, etc. One day, out of the blue, the mom decided to turn herself into a cat, LOL!

Here kitty kitty… As “Meow-Meow the cat,” she would offer to help her daughter make her bed, pick out her clothes for the day, etc., and for some reason, the small act of turning into cat made her daughter willing and receptive! I’m going to try this the next time Connor is having a tough time.
Moral of this story: when things get tough, go feline.
- It’s been so long since I’ve rocked a proper cat eye. A big part of it is because my lids have changed shape so much in the last few years; they’re really hooded now, and finding a cat eye look that suits this recent evolution of my face has been very challenging.

Meow I was looking in the mirror last night and making funny faces just for the heck of it (please tell me I’m not the only person who does this).
I noticed that my skin moves and pulls in ways that it didn’t used to. I always try to remind myself that today is the youngest I’ll ever be for the rest of my life, but still… It’s weird getting older.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I totally make faces at myself and end up cracking myself up. You aren’t the only one!
Oh my gosh! I was there for a while and I made myself laugh so hard!!! LOL I’m glad I’m not the only person who does this.
I hear you on the lid situation. My days of eyeshadow are done as well. At least until I get that blepharoplasty. 😉
Your nails look amazing in the Meow-Meow pic, btw!
SIGH. I still love eyeshadow so much, but I think for a while (until I can really figure out the new lid situation) I’ll be sticking to single shades.
I wish I could take credit for those awesome claws but they were press ons!
Your lids still look great, though. Mine remind me of roman shades these days – except without the handy, pull cord. 🙂
I never would have guessed they were press on – though you probably mentioned it in the original post and I’ve forgotten. Another recurring theme with this aging thing!
Love the nails and the red lippie in the Meow- Meow pic!!
Took a walk with Dear Husband this morning and someone drove by with their music blasting and you could hear their bass thumping when they they were almost a block away. And I looked at my husband and said, “I’m guessing they haven’t given it a thought about having to wear a hearing aid when they get older.” And DH replied, “The jokes on them, because I bet they’re not even thinking of getting older.”
Old age, it happens to everyone, whether you want it to or not. (Says the lady with thinning hair that’s more than 70% gray now.)
Thank you! 🙂
I’m about to take a walk right now… It’s beautiful out here today! Did you and your hubs start “The Diplomat” yet?
I guess what I was trying to say is, we all age, so you have to find a way to accept it and embrace it.
Also motherhood challenged me to become more creative to find ways to encourage positive behavior and to help DD when she was having a hard time.
Hope you enjoy your walk. It’s gotten hot down this way, so I’m glad we went for a walk at 8am.
Haven’t watched The Diplomat yet. DH is still getting over the Warrior’s loss. So we watched “Return to Seoul” which was moody and emotional in a very strange French way. It was more of a French movie than a Korean one. We also watched another Korean movie called “Mood of the Day”. He’s also been having business dinners that get him home after I’ve gone up to read before bed. I can’t watch TV too close to bedtime or I have a hard time with sleep, so I go upstairs and read for an hour before I turn off the lights.
Also my eyes are so hooded now that my outer corners droop below my lower lashline. Sigh. But I’ve been playing with versions of the shadow placement in this video and I’ve been happy with the results more often than not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df9eH7bK9Xw
I so feel you on the increasing hoodiness of the eyes. I stopped trying to do a wing and now do more of a puppy liner, which, interestingly makes my eyes look more sultry. Maybe see if that works for you?
Aging is really hard mentally…I think even harder on us make-up lovers because we spend more time up close and personal with our mirrors. I have to constantly remind myself that there are alot more important things in life. My husband’s best friend is battling stage 4 cancer. He went from 40 and healthy…to extremely sick in a matter of weeks. This has been a huge reminder to me that my wrinkles and age spots should not matter. That we are all extremely lucky to get a tomorrow.
On a happier note…When Connor is asleep…watch Beef on Netflix. Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are hilarious together. They take on such serious topics and can still make you laugh the whole time.
This is a very welcome reminder Mandy. Thank you. I needed it!
I blazed through “Beef” a while back and enjoyed it, although I wish I could unsee the scene where they run into the panic room, and well… you know what happens.
