Have you noticed the abundance of celebrity skin care lines popping up lately? J. Lo, Millie Bobby Brown, Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Kim K., Hailey Bieber… The list just keeps going and going!
I’m undecided about celeb skin care for one’s face. I’m more open to body products, though. Case in point: I recently bought a big jar of body cream from the skin care line by Alicia Keys, and it’s really good! I’m also very curious about the body sunscreen from Eleven by Venus Williams (it’s supposed to be excellent).
If it’s something with active ingredients for one’s visage, I’m more likely to skip it. I think maybe if I was in my teens or early 20s I’d be more open, but at this stage in my beauty life I feel like my mug needs serious “Real Housewives”-caliber potion that melts your face off, LOL! I’d rather spend $$$ on skin care you’d find at a dermatologist’s office, like Skinceuticals or SkinMedica.
All this to say, that for me, celebrity skin care lines are mostly a leave it situation.
How about you? What are your thoughts on celebrity skin care? Love it or leave it?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Definitely a leave it. I also don’t go for celebrity makeup, perfumes or clothes. I’d rather purchase from a brand that’s been around than line some already rich celebrity’s pockets.
Hmmm, I’m pretty skeptical about celeb skin care–and make up for that matter–Rihanna’s line being the exception.
I’m with you. At middle age, I can’t be playing with my skin. I need stuff that works.
I will leave it. Most of these stars’ beautiful skin started BEFORE they put their name on a product line. I remember one star touting a modestly priced line as her “go-to” then I read an interview where she stated she spends close to TEN GRAND a MONTH on beauty treatments. I don’t mind paying a bit more for good skin care but I want something that has a proven track record in my age group and skin type.
I’m really skeptical of celeb beauty lines in general, it seems like everyone had then now. It’s so weird to me.
The one Fenty product I tried gave me one of the worst eczema outbreaks of my life so I haven’t tried the rest of the line. I like Halsey a lot but I am just not drawn to celeb beauty lines, so I haven’t tried hers. I also have extremely sensitive skin and eyes, so a lot of things don’t work for me anyway.
I can’t imagine a stage performer knowing anything about the chemical compositions of cosmetics or having the time to personally study it. I always consider their products subpar, including perfume.
I haven’t tried any Goop products though but might. I know Gwyneth has put the research in.
Leave it. I view them like any building I pass to/from work. If a name brand is at the top of a 20 story building, it doesn’t mean they own that building – they just sold their name to it to use as advertisement. Same with pretty much any ballpark/stadium. I feel most celebrities just sell their name to the manufacturer and who knows if they even use it or had anything to do with the formula. I’m sure some do, but to what extent? I prefer to put my trust in a brand that has had years of reputable research.
I’m with you one the “leave it”. Unless there was an abundance of third party, clinical trials and lots of non-biased reviews (or you said it was good, wink, wink), I definitely prefer more professional/reputable brands. I don’t buy celeb fragrances, but wouldn’t have a problem with them. Celebrity, fashion designer? It’s all the same – they hire a perfumer – so, if it smells good, I don’t care whose name is on it. Skincare with active ingredients is a different story for my old, picky skin! Speaking of, have you tried the SkinMedica Lytera 2.0? I’m on the fence about this because of the price, but I want to fade these sun spots!
Leave it. There might be a decent product here and there, but for the most part, nah. And Millie Bobby Brown skin care? For real? She has good skin because she’s 18. I had wrinkle free, smooth skin at 18, too. Lol.
Leave it, mostly. If it’s something I’d be inclined to buy anyway, no matter the brand—then I’ll consider it, but more despite the celeb connection than because of it!
Leave. I mean, I would maybe try a thing or two if I was sent it in PR, or if I happened on it by accident, but for my face (43, adult acne) I trust the stuff I know works.
Definitely leave it. I wish there was full disclosure on how celebrities actually achieve their “perfect skin.” I’m 100% certain it involves many treatments at a Derms office. JLo has an army to help her achieve her “glow” — her skincare line has some good ingredients, but nothing that stands out from others and certainly not worth the investment. I think that’s better spent on medical grade skincare.
She is not “endorsing the line” with her name but I admired the beauty of the young model who did the Chanel spring-summer line 2022 ads. Then I read she was Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose and I thought “OMG – isn’t she like 18?” (OK, it’s 22) She’s stunning, but I buy Chanel makeup because of the quality, not because I think it will make me look like that in my 60s.
