Well, I guess it’s a good thing I wore waterproof mascara today just in case.
My fave at the moment is an oldie but goodie– MAC In Extreme Dimension Waterproof Lash.

Anywho, I dropped my not-so-little one off today for her first day of first grade. She was feeling a little nervous, so we spent the morning focused on getting her in a good place.
I’ve always believed if you’re feeling anxious about something, it really helps to prepare yourself as much as you can and to go about your business with a light and happy heart.

Picture what your day will be like, mentally run through your schedule, anticipate what you can (like, by prepping your clothes and deciding on your lunch the day before), think about anything that might surprise you, start your day early so you don’t feel rushed — those kinds of things.
So, we chatted about all this while we did her school morning routine, and then we were off and running!
I didn’t really get the chance to feel any big mom feelings until I dropped her off at her classroom; the emotions hit me when she almost forgot to turn around and kiss me goodbye. (I’ve been told this is a good thing.)

The passing of time is brutal! One day they’re clinging to you at preschool drop off. Then, it’s the first day of first grade. Next thing you know, it’s the first day of college.

I didn’t expect to get teary today, but dang, this squishy heart! Gets me every time.
Happy Thursday, by the way. How are things going on your end? Good, I hope.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Who is that Big Girl in the picture?!!! Now I’m starting to tear up.
Our baby started 1st grade last week, too. She was devastatingly nonchalant about the whole situation. She’s much more excited about her new glasses than moving out of the kindergarten pod into the main school with big sister. (In her defense, her glasses are red, so that’s pretty awesome, lol.) 😄
Red glasses! I’m so jealous!!!
I hope the baby has a wonderful year filled with friends and fun.
Happy First Day of First Grade!!! I wish Connor a good year in school!
They do grow up fast.
How hard is it to remove MAC In Extreme Dimension Waterproof ? I haven’t been wearing waterproof mascara lately because I like the ease of removing regular mascara. MAC discontinued my two favorites, False Lashes Mascara and Haute & Naughty. Sigh. So the search for replacements goes on.
They grow up too fast. Sigh.
I have no issue with removing it if I use an oil-based cleanser. What mascara are you using these days? Ever since I stopped using lash serum, I’ve had a minor mascara crisis.
I’m on my last tube of Haught & Naughty. I’m also on my last tube of Clinique Naturally Glossy, also discontinued. Clinique recommended their tubing mascara as a replacement, but it breaks up mid day and removing it gets flakes/tubes of mascara in my eyes. I tried the Tom Ford Badass, which I liked the looks and results, but I had serious raccoon eyes after 2-3 hours. I bought the Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara during the Nordstrom sale. It’s heavily rose scented and even though I like the results I can’t see buying a mascara that expensive on a regular basis. I have super hooded/droopy lids, so I need something that will hold up to being in contact with my upper lids.
I just watched a Karima McKimmie video where she says she likes the Colourpop Act Natural mascara. Available at Ulta, so that’s the next one for me to try. I’m seriously thinking of just going to the drug store and picking 3 to 5 mascaras off the display to try. If I don’t like them, I’ll make a note and toss them.
I agree with you on the Chantecaille mascara. It’s epic but SO $$$! I tried one Colourpop mascara, and it was my last. Luckily it was affordable, so I didn’t feel bad about tossing it.
If you find any great drugstore ones you’ll have to let us all know!
She is growing up so quickly. Enjoy every single moment. I turned around and my daughter was 43. NOT sure how that happened as I’m eternally 25 in my head 🙂
You’re a great Mom and it shows in her sweet and happy face.
I will, Brigid!
In my head I’m eternally 36. LOL
First grade! I met one of my dearest long term friends in first grade. Bright things ahead for Connor Claire!
(My first grade teacher also once put me in the “dog house” for crying too much, it didn’t make me stop crying LOL)
I was put in the “dog house” too and it made the crying worse, OMG!
I feel your pain about the passing of time! I have no children but my Siamese Kitty Ragnar ( usually thought of as ‘Baby Ragnar’) is now 4 years old!
Also, very sadly we had to have our beautiful Freya put to sleep two weeks ago. She was nearly 12 but my memories of her as a kitten are vivid.
I’m so sorry to hear about Freya. It’s so hard to lose a loved one. My heart goes out to you!
Aw, I am sure it is the best thing she almost forget to kiss you good bye, that only happens when they are feeling safe with you cause they know you will always be there for them. But how is she this big already?
She’s so grown up! What the heck happened? Also, I feel like she’s looking less and less like you the older she gets. Maybe it’s just a stage? Does she favor El Hubs or some ancient relative from way back in the bloodline?
Also, teachers look so casual these days! Maybe that’s a California thing. Or a first day of school thing. Michael’s teachers never wore jeans in the classroom unless it was a field trip day somewhere outdoorsy.
How did her first day go?
