You know, it really depends on the type of product it is. Skin care items, for sure. I scrape and scoop every last drop out of jars, tubes and whatnot!
For hair care, I finish most things, but not all. I like bouncing around and trying new hair stuff. With shampoo and conditioner, I get antsy really quickly, so when a bottle is mostly done, I’ll move on. Leave-in conditioners and hair styling products, though? I typically finish those, even if I don’t completely *love* something.
Makeup is a different beast, LOL! My workhorses — concealers, brow pencils and eyeliner — definitely get finished. Mascara gets finished too, and strangely enough, like hair styling products, even if I don’t completely love a mascara, I’ll still keep using it until I have to buy a new one. Weird.
I can’t remember the last time I finished a powder product like blush, eyeshadow or face powder. It’s been a minute!
How often do you finish your beauty products?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. MY FRIEND! I’m doing a dance of joy because I’m almost done with Christmas shopping! Granted, my original plan was to have everything done before December, but that’s OK, better now than next Friday, OMG!
I was Nordstrom Rack today because I recently bought this rainbow purse as a present and didn’t realize that some of the clouds were missing until I went to wrap it yesterday. I have no idea how I completely missed this critical detail, LOL!

Anyway, while I was there today exchanging the purse, I couldn’t resist this cute striped camel sweater by Tahari. It’s soft (not itchy) and comes in a bunch of colors, and it was $20! It’s adorable and should go with everything.

Congratulations on finishing your shopping! That’s a definite plus. I just finished also, but about 50% was gift cards. I’ve been making cookies today, and I’m definitely getting old! Because it is hard. All that mixing of the dough, and chips. I made 3 kinds: chocolate crack cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and oatmeal raisin cookies. I’m worn out.
OK, now I have to know what chocolate crack cookies are!!!
The sweater and the purse are really cute. I got all of my shopping done in November in case of shipping delays. Still have to wrap though, my least favorite part of the holiday. As far as finishing products. For skincare I use every drop if I like it. If it’s something that breaks me out immediately I toss it or give it to a family member with less fussy skin. I do tend to replace mascaras and lipsticks before they are done though.
Thanks! I’ve been wearing a lot of camel and cream clothes lately because it seems to be easier to get dressed when I have a lot of neutrals around. In my heart of hearts, though, I’m all about prints and crazy colors, LOL!
That’s awesome that you got all your shopping done in November, wow!
I finish most things – unless I decide I hate them or end up thinking “Why did I ever think blue eyeshadow would suit me?” etc etc…
LOL, I know that feeling about crazy eyeshadow all too well!
I definitely use up skin care and sunscreens. Dear Husband thinks I’m crazy because I will pry the tops off of airless pumps and cut tubes open to get every last drop. Although if something doesn’t work for my skin I’m willing to find it a new home or toss it. No sense torturing my sensitive skin.
The only eyeshadows I can remember using up are some of the classic colors by MAC and I went through at least two or three Burberry shadows before they were discontinued.
Not sure how many tubes of NARS Dolce Vita I’ve gone through.
Kind of the same as you, Karen. I use up skincare stuff more frequently than say blush or eyeshadow. If I’m in the shower and I’m anxious to start a new shampoo or body wash, I’ll start using more and more of the old stuff just to get rid of it faster!
Haha, I do the same thing! I used a ton of shampoo the other day from a bottle that I’m getting tired of. LOL!
With skincare, I will not finish anything that breaks me out. But if it is one of my favorites (DHC olive oil, L’Oréal glycolic acid, Tarte maracuja oil), I will use every single drop. With makeup, I usually will finish mascara unless it is absolutely horrible. I have hit pan many times on MAC’s All That Glitters eyeshadow. I have also went through several Nars Dolce Vita lip pencils and too many Urban Decay Perversion eyeliner pencils. I rarely finish a tube of lipstick because I own too many and am constantly switching them out. Lately, I have been wearing MAC’s E for Effortless and have considered buying a backup because I absolutely love it.
NARS Dolce Vita is a classic!
Happy Thursday, Mandy!
Happy Holiday Season, Friend! I was just thinking it seems like it’s been months since I’ve visited, and I’m so sad to realize it really has been. I’ve been catching up on old posts and have missed a ton. 🙁 I’m so sorry to hear about the job, but you are fabulous and talented and will absolutely find something you love. <3 Connor is growing like a weed, which I know you realize, and that's so awesome about her being on the Junior Dance Team! Super job on the blinds and the wall color – right up my alley with the neutrals. I wish I'd have caught you sooner on YSL. The new formula starts out a bit thin for my liking, but it really does thicken up after the tube has been opened and closed a few times. I'm glad you stuck with it and are liking it more. I will be checking in more often, so there won't be any more War & Peace length comments. HAHA! All is well on this end. Busy but no big news. We have a bit of snow and are expecting more tomorrow, so hopefully it'll be a white Christmas.
