Would you go shorter, longer, a few shades darker or lighter, get bangs or go with a bob? Would you dive headlong into beachy waves or opt for something straight?
If I could wake up tomorrow morning with a head of dream hair, I’d definitely want something long (past my shoulders) that I could just wash and wear.
I’ve always been envious of friends who could just hop in the shower, run a comb through their hair, and walk out the door lookin’ like a freaking Pantene commercial because, yeah, I’ve just never been able to do that.
Even for a low maintenance look, with my current style, I still feel like I have to use product and blow dry my bangs, at the very least. So for me, I’d want easy, shiny, long and slightly wavy (with no funny business down there at the ends).
I don’t want to have to do anything with it at all. 🙂 Seriously, laziness is key here.
Oh, and while we’re at it, can we do something about my roots?? Everyone in my family goes gray early, le sigh.
A TIP TO ROOT FOR: Because I’m way overdue getting my roots done, I’ve been doing some creative things to hide ’em, like wearing my bangs up in a poof and pulling the rest of my hair back in a ponytail. It hides the roots well, and I can bang it out in less than five minutes.
As for color, I’d go one or two shades lighter than natural. I like it when my hair is dark, but when it’s a couple shades lighter than natural, I feel like it brightens my overall look a little bit more.
Let’s talk hair, babes. If you could wake up tomorrow morning with a head of dream hair, how would it look (and it’s perfectly okay to say you have your dream hair now)?

I would have long (under the breast) blond with beach waves. This without any maintenance or time required other than shampoo and conditioner. Did I mention they would never break?!
Unfortunatly I have to do with short redish brown hair since blond hair did brek my hair 🙁
I would get dark (shade 5 aprox), glossy, long hair with lots of volume and some waves.
Do eyebrows count too? Becuase I’d love stronger, thicker and more soft eyebrows 🙂

Karen, I would like to ask you if know how to get rid of red hues. I went to the hairdresser asking for Jessica Chastain hair and came out with bright red hair. My mom’s hairdresser dyed it darker but the red is coming out. Any tips on how to neutralize it? Thanks!!!

I’ll have to talk to the gal who does my hair. I have the same issue, too — I think my hair naturally has a lot of red tones, and she does some magic to help tone the red down.

Hey Karen – you might want to use a color toner. If you go to a beauty supply store and tell them you want to neutralize the red, without coloring your hair darker or lighter, they should be able to point you in the right direction. The toners are the products in the “hair color” section (again, in any beauty supply store) where the samples of hair are almost all white, in slightly different shades, ranging from blueish to yellowish. They’re often used on highlights or on bleached hair, to impart the desired “shade” of blonde (blue, yellowish, etc). You use it almost exactly like a hair dye, if me memory is accurate.
You can also use “blue” shampoo – it basically does the same thing, but non-permanently.

Mine also pulls a lot of red. Make sure the stylist is using an Ash shade and stay away from anything golden.
I’d say probably not having thick curly hair….
It’s hard to manage and products that work are so bank breaking. Love Kerastase but it hurts your pocket book. Not to mention finding a stylist you can trust who understands how to cut very curly hair.
It’s easy though when I want to wear it down and curly. Wash, towel dry and put Kerastase curl cream it. Works great.
I’d love to have Adele’s hair. So fluffy and big!!! I’d just dye it in my colour, it suits me better than blonde 🙂
Hmmmmmm…this is a great post. I like the hair I have, but I would love to be better and quicker at doing things like neat French braids and buns. That will come with practice, though. I also like the idea of having a longer version of a Posh Spice bob, but I probably won’t do that for a little while, at least until I get a feel for my new career when I get a job offer (not afraid of cutting it off, but don’t want to make any big changes that I can’t work with easily just yet).
That’s exactly what I thought of when I read this – I like the actual HAIR I have, but I have zero hair skills, so I have to have it cut in a way that only needs blow-drying to style. I’d love more flexibility, but if I haven’t figured it out by now, I think I’m stuck with this!
First thing I would want is mad volume at the roots without having to use a ton of products. Then I would love to have perfect, beachy waves.
I could just wash my hair and then walk out the door, but it would be a hot mess. 🙂 I need to do some amount of styling to get it to look decent.
I’ve started getting some grays, and since my hair is black I’ve sometimes used a Sharpie to darken the offending strands. 🙂
My hair looks best when I darken it and keep it long with razoring or hidden layers to thin it out. With my coloring if I take my hair to a soft black it really seems to snap my features into focus. And now that I’ve stopped compulsively bobbing my hair, I’m well on my way to the Aniston-like long layers that are most flattering to me.
Whoa…I have my hairstylist do the same thing–except I keep it around Karen’s length. I love the IDEA of gorgeous thick long glossy hair with a slight wave but thick long hair is very heavy in weight. I just…can’t. There’s no way–I can just imagine running with my hair bouncing ridiculously behind me. Now, if I could always change my hair miraculously from day-to-day it would be a different story. Like, Day 1: Emma Watson pixie. Day 2: Kardashian long tresses. Day 3: asymmetrical bob…and so on. =D

I would like to have straight long easily managable hair and as far as color- very light blond. I hate how long it takes me to do my hair. When you put your bangs up do you use hairspray to make it more puffy?
Dark glossy chocolate color with a hint of caramel highlights. Length – about halfway down my back. Smoothened out and somewhere between wavy and straight! Like how Khloe Kardashian wears it sometimes.
And no hairfall during washing/brushing/styling!
I could really use more volume and strength for my hair. Having fine hair makes heated styling go limp without 900 cans of hairspray all up in my hair. I want it to grow a bit longer, like to my mid-back. It curls and waves fine but I want to be able to do big librarian-on-Tuesday buns. I want a wild color because my workplace says I can’t have one. Maybe a streak of teal behind my ears? I’ll see what my hair stylist says.
I actually would keep the color and length of my natural hair. I’d just want my blonde, thick, wavy hair to be more manageable and predictable. I would want it to have zero reaction to humidity. And the little curls that pop up around my ears and hairline, where the baby hairs are, yeah… that can stop lol
I’m generally happy with my hair; its pretty low maintenance and looks decent most of the time but its fine bordering on limp and I’d love to wake up with some voluminous beach waves.
I’d be happy just to have the hair I had 18 years ago…my thick dark brown, long, wavy virgin hair that I thought was sooo boring! Now at 36 my hair is dry, damaged, limp, dull and very fine after all the years of bleaching and torture I put it through. If I knew then what I know now…sigh:(
It’d be thicker, more volume, and maybe a little wavy and a little brighter red (like when I was a kid). On the whole, my hair’s pretty good though – I can wash it at night, sleep with it wet, and it looks good in the morning.
As a fine-haired lady, I have been forever envious of those with thick heads of beautifully smooth hair. I don’t know what I would do with thick glossy hairs like Adele’s! Ok, so thick, glossy, bouncy hair in a light milk chocolate “bronde”. That is my dream coif! I’m really considering having it lightened but I’ve never dyed my hair before so I am a bit scared.

I have fine, curly hair..which I don’t mind, but I’d love for it to be thicker and less frizzy! who wouldn’t right?..lol..really I used to HATE my hair, in high school and such I wanted stick straight, thin hair like all the other girls. NOw I do appreciate the curls and they really help my hair appear much thicker..I would just love it to a bit glossier, and less frizzy. 🙂 we always want what we can’t have, right? lol..love your blog!

All-around long (which kind of ends under my chest, kind of), slightly layered and wavy – medially heavily waved in a way that always falls perfect, no matter how I slept the night before. And long enough even at the inner layers that I could put the whole hair in a bun/ponytail/ braid without having to pin those too short little suckers hanging out back with a handful of bobby pins. Oh, and healthy, and not having as many split ends and breakage as it has now.
As for color, kind of like a dark caramel… or dark caramel with natural looking lowlights/highlights of darker brown hair (because I don’t wanna dye my dark brows).
I was recently watching an old cycle of America’s Next Top Model and I would love to wake up with Mia Farrow’s haircut in Rosemary’s Baby.
I’d want to wake up with Victorias Secret Angel hair every morning.
