- MAC Whirl Lip Pencil is really great, especially when you use it to line and fill in your lips and then dab a lip oil or a lip treatment on top.
- I swear, if this family didn’t have me to keep track of and buy toilet paper, nobody would ever have anything around to wipe their butt, ever.
- I’m probably not going to buy the shimmer gel twist-up eyeliners from Sephora Collection again (makes my waterlines itch). The matte one’s OK, though, and affordable.
- I wish Hung Vanngo would come over and do this makeup on me, like, every day.
- It’s easier to think of things for lists when you’re doing something mindless and your brain can wander, like if you’re walking and wandering aimlessly
outside, or when you’re (TMI) going to the bathroom. - You know you’re adulting when all you do all day long is try to get enough protein at every meal. IT’S EXHAUSTING. Getting enough protein feels like another job!
- Why can’t we just all eat massively big bowls of pho (Vietnamese soup) for lunch everyday? I would much rather do that than eat salad.
- Whenever I write banana notes for Connor’s lunch, I pretend I’m writing a note to the 30-year-old version of her.
- Sometimes I see old pictures of me and El Hub and think, “DAMN. We had so much collagen.” LOL!
- I’m so tired of sneezing, coughing and sniffling. I feel personally attacked by nature during the spring.
- I never met a potato I didn’t like, but I’ve yet to find a go-to potato salad recipe. Need to get on that ASAP.
- I’m kinda bummed about the SF Nordstrom closing, although yikes, I think the last time I was there was in the fall of 2015, when I was pregnant with Connor. I still remember going there for my first official bra fitting, hanging out at the MAC and Bobbi Brown counters, meeting Francois Nars there, eating at the cafe with my friends… Good times.
- Why do I have to keep learning the same lessons over and over again? This week’s re-learned lessons: 1) I really like writing lists; 2) it’s very helpful to do research the day before you write a first draft; and 3) planning your upcoming workday really helps a lot.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Have a terrific Thursday-Purrsday!

Go to the homesick Texans website. She has so many great potato salad recipes. My favorite of hers is the dill jalapeño potato salad. Sounds like it might be a bit weird, but it is so good.
How interesting! I’ve never heard of that particular combination in a potato salad.I’m a wimp when it comes to heat, so I’ll probably end up swapping the jalapeno for something more mellow.
I loved the SF downtown Nordstrom, and though I live in Boston, I’m sad about it. I loved the sound the elevators made as they approached each floor. I have wonderful memories of buying clothes from the SF designer Jeanne-Marc at Nordstrom. Since they stopped selling violet corsages at a flower stall off of Union Sq. and now Nordstrom, the Rack, and Saks Off 5th closing, I have few reasons to go there. Boo. I hope that Saks doesn’t close too!
They also closed the MAC store downtown, too. Boo. I haven’t shopped there in ages, and I probably wouldn’t enjoy it now that so many of my old haunts are gone.
MAC Whirl – looks at description then runs upstairs to check lipliner cup. Nope don’t have it. Wonder why I don’t.
TP – Ever since the store shelves were bare at the start of the first lockdown, I’ve been terrified of running out of TP. And yes, I’m the only one who makes sure we have enough to last until the next shopping trip.
Hung Vanngo – I’d love to have him do my makeup, but I’d probably itch from having that much product on my face and go run and wash it off.
Pho! – When I was in massive pain from my shoulder problem, my girlfriend who was born in Vietnam made a batch of pho for me. She included all the trimmings, too. It was so good! I need to watch her make it the next time she makes a batch since she never uses recipes.
Allergy season- My peak used to be around Mother’s Day, but I’ve hit my limit already. I wonder if this means it’s going to end sooner or if the agony will continue to continue…
Beautiful pics of the flowers. You look beautiful in the top photo too. What color eyeliner are you wearing?
BTW, my Dear Husband always goes back upstairs after dinner and spends 30min to an hour planning and organizing for the next work day. Then he comes back down and we watch TV together. (Sometimes I wonder if he just does it to get out of helping me clean up and do the dishes. Lol)
There’s also a MAC Whirl Lipstick, however I prefer the lip pencil. Old school, ya know.
Re: the eyeliner in the pic at the top, it’s the navy blue shimmer gel twist-up eyeliner from Sephora Collection. It’s fine on my lash lines but my waterlines hate it. 🙁 I’m on a mission to find a long-lasting navy pencil that stays on both lash and waterlines!
I still get ticked off that the pandemic turned me into a person who gets anxious when we’re down to “only” 5 packs of toilet paper. If we drop below 6 packs, it’s time to go to Sam’s Club.🙄
The height of flower season has passed down here, but now the grass has turned on us. I didn’t know that grass produced pollen until I started obsessively checking the Weather Channel’s website for the daily allergy forecast. This part of Florida is notorious for terrible allergies almost year-round, but I at least want to know what’s attacking me.😄
Girl, same. If we’re even remotely low on paper towels or toilet paper it’s time for a trip to the store!
Have you ever thought of taking an allergy test? They poke your arm with a tray filled with tiny little needles with all sorts of common allergens, and whatever you’re allergic to causes specific spots on your skin to flare up. I did one years ago, and dang, my whole arm was red! Nature hates me. LOL
Around here, pretty much everyone takes Claritin, etc. from February to November because of the nice weather. There’s usually something blooming, so there’s usually some kind of allergen floating around. It’s just North Florida life.
I’m allergic to weird and random things: mushrooms, eucalyptus, sulfa-based drugs, and the chemicals in soap that make it foam up. Yes, I’m basically allergic to soap. Weirdo.🙄
One of the Nordstrom stores near me closed last year, and I’m still sad about it! I loved browsing the makeup counters there.
Also, I love your sunglasses in the last pic! What brand are they? So cute!
The brand is Via Spiga and they’re prescription! I bought them at Costco a couple years ago. 🙂
I am also in charge of TP at my house, which is a good thing! I’m a Sam’s Club fan and like to be stocked up on the essentials. I don’t care for potato salad – not a huge mayo fan and cold potatoes are weird to me. I can’t believe Nordstrom is closing! I used to make special shopping trips from Sacramento to go to that mall and the shops on Market street. Fun times.
We are getting married on May 28th! Kind of a spur of the moment thing. We were going to do it at the courthouse in my town but then we found out they don’t actually do the ceremonies at the courthouse, they do them at the jail in town because that is where the judge is sentencing people. So we decided we didn’t want to get married at the jail and instead we are planning an outdoor civil ceremony with a big barbecue after. I just hope the weather cooperates!
Oh, congrats! I hope the weather is nice that day. Do you guys have any backup plans (tents, etc.) just in case?
The biggest thing I’m worried about is the weather! The park we’re having it at has a “clubhouse” but it only fits about 40 people and I’m worried more people than that will show up! Other than that we have a picnic shelter rented that can fit 75 I believe. Hoping and praying for good weather!
Your lips look gorgeous with Whirl pencil and balm/gloss on top. I am heading to get me that liner tonight – I better look at my own collection of pencils first to be sure I don’t have one lol.
Your comment about the toilet paper had me laughing out loud. Loves it! Thank you for that laugh. It’s the same in our home.
I can feel your pain re: Nordstroms. Unfortunately here in Canada they announced March 2 that our online access was ended and all Nordstrom and Nordstrom’s Rack stores would be closing. That makes me sad. I too loved perusing their makeup aisle and their annual sale had some great deals. Oh well – end of an eta I guess. More of an excuse for me to hit up travel to the States!!
What was it like to meet Francois Nars? What’s he like?
I will ask my mom for our grandma’s potato salad recipe. It is delicious and so fresh tasting – I message it asap.
I only got to chat with him briefly but Francois Nars seemed nice!
Connor’s lucky that she has a mom who writes her uplifting notes every day. It literally never even occurred to my mother’s generation to do things like that. It would have helped me a lot if she had done things like that. Neither one of my parents even noticed that my life was hell after we all moved in the middle of 7th grade. (And it remained hell for the next 5 1/2 years). Also, for what it’s worth, my father would have thought note-writing was a complete waste of his valuable time (most of which went to his workplace, and I honestly think he didn’t really have to spend so much time at work, but it was a good excuse to avoid being much a father to his 4 kids).
Those CA poppies are so cool. I wish I could grow those here, but they require too much drainage and dryness to do well in the semi-tropical area I live in.
Thank you for saying that. 🙂 I’m happy to share her banana notes with you — feel free to use them as a pick-me-up whenever you need it.
So much yes to all of these! 😀 My husband and I started the slow carb diet about a month ago, and while I love it and it’s been awesome for me, eating/meal prepping enough protein is HARD. Especially when you’re renting a house that doesn’t have a dishwasher. Some days I feel like I’ve never left the kitchen. 😉
I’ve tried measuring myself for new bras post-nursing, and damn I wish there was a good Nordstrom/bra shop nearby to have someone help me!
If you like dill (and this has grated eggs for extra protein, wink wink), check out my go-to. Tyler’s Ultimate:
