Before I get to my list, can I just say that I’ve actually been in this exact situation several times before…
Uh…maybe I should clarify. I don’t make a habit of spending random nights away from home, but sometimes when I drive out to my parents’ house, which is about an hour away, and it gets late, I just stay the night out there and drive back the next morning.
So I’ll be making this Rite-Aid or Walgreens run at some ridiculous hour in the middle of the night/early morning, and when I do, without fail, there will be an odd character there wandering about who will invariably stop to ask me if I happen know whether the store carries birdseed…and Redbull, to which I’ll smile awkwardly and reply, “Wha?”
Anywho, tangent… Now for that emergency list.
- Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser — This is a great makeup remover, and it gets my face squeaky clean without stripping every microgram of moisture from my skin or triggering horrible breakouts. I swear, I could go through Breaking Bad-sized industrial chemistry vats of this stuff. I love it that much.
- Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination Skin — Because without mega moisturizing from a product I can trust to get the job done, the perpetually problem dry spots on my cheeks and around my nose go cah-ray-zaaaaay the next morning.
- A toothbrush, toothpaste and floss — I don’t even like to entertain the concept of going to bed without brushing and flossing my teeth. Dude, even back during the height of my clubbing days when I’d get home at obscene o’clock, I’d always brush and floss before bed, because both of my parents have teeth and gum issues, and it made me extra weird about dental hygiene. I don’t know if that’s TMI…but if it is, my bad!
- Gud by Burt’s Bees Red Ruby Groovy Natural Softening Conditioner — This is assuming that my head feels or smells gross. If it does, I like to conditioner wash it with a lightweight, reliable conditioner like this, which always leaves my hair feeling less gross, and smelling like a yummy grapefruit (incidentally, I’m going through a grapefruit phase at the moment).
- Gud by Burt’s Bees Red Ruby Groovy Natural Body Lotion — Yup, dry skin issues again. Always… I’m usually more flexible about my soaps and will just use whatever is around, but then after showering I’ll hydrate the heck out of my bod with something like this. I love the smell (again, grapefruit), it absorbs well, and it moisturizes like WHOA!

Lol, so glad you clarified these random overnight stays 😉 Grapefruit is such a major pick me up. I just ordered a jumbo bottle of The Body Shop Grapefruit Body Wash and want to try out Yes to Grapefruit scrub and maybe treatment to help get my skin looking fresh.
Does that face wash take up eye makeup well? My neutrogena naturals facewash ran out and i would love something similar but more moisturizing.
Also, I love the smell of that conditioner but it doesn’t do anything for my tangles, so i had to stop using it. I am going to pick up that lotion today!
Ponds moisturizer and burts bees face wipes would be my emergency drug store purchases.
I usually keep a set of samples in the car – face wash, moisturizer etc
but last time when we went to DC I totally forgot to carry a foundation/bb cream , so it was a late night run at Walgreens to get a T-M.. hehehe
but mostly it is mouthwash,floss etc
I’ve been hearing a lot about Neutrogena skincare lately! I’m already picking up more of their wipes (love them!) but now I want to try this cleanser too. Great list!
I would buy Yardley of London Oatmeal and Almond Soap. I can use it on my face and body. I would also try to get Palmer’s Cocoa Butter or coconut oil, and a toothbrush.
Oh, man, I can’t even think of the situation that would have me making an unexpected overnight stay. Okay, assuming I either had my prescriptions with me or could get a pharmacist override for enough to keep me going for a couple of days, I’d need:
1. A small bottle of extra-virgin olive oil, and a Buff Puff. (Remember those? XD) I normally wash my face with a blend of jojoba and avocado oils, then work it in with my beloved Olay Spinbrush, but EVOO will do in a pinch.
2. Tucks pads, or another pre-moistened witch hazel pad or towelette. Gotta have my toner.
3. Neutrogena Hand Cream, fragrance free. It’s mostly glycerine, and in combination with oils, it’s just about the best moisturizer I know short of jojoba oil (which is a freaking youth serum).
4. Neutrogena Baby Faces all-natural sunblock, or something similarly fragrance-free and glycerine-containing.
5. Mitchum fragrance-free gel deodorant.
6. A bar or travel-size bottle of Dr. Bronner’s, unless the big ones are on sale.
7. Toothbrush, dental floss, and some kind of all-natural kids’ toothpaste.
8. I may or may not pick up some ELF HD powder to set my sunblock.
9. A comb.
10. All the Red Bull or original Monster I can carry.
That’s a great question! If I didn’t have anything on me I would probably pick up:
1. Toothbrush and travel tooth paste
2. Travel size make up remover wipes (preferably Olay Fresh Effects or maybe Simple)
3. Clean and Clear face wash (either the clear one in the orange pump or the clear one in the blue pump)
4. Secret & Olay deodorant (the blue kind – Powder Fresh?). That is the only deodorant that works for me and I have to put deodorant on before bed. I’m weird, I know.
5. Maybelline Baby Lips in Quenched. I CANNOT survive the night without a lip balm and I’ve been loving this lately!
I think I can do without a face moisturizer if it’s one evening and I have some face wipes.
Geeze this is a tough one!
1. Simple makeup wipes to take off my makeup and wash my face with.
2. Google a good drugstore moisturizer and go from there lol.
3. DEODORANT!!!!
4. Travel size bottles of shampoo and conditioner that I like or am currently using if I can find them,
5. Travel size bottle of good body cream.
6. Tooth brush and tooth paste
7. Hair brush
8. Hair ties
9. Foundation/BB Cream that matches my skin tone, preferably L’Oreal True Match BB Cream in Fair
10. Concealer, loving the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in the shade 15 fair right now!
That would probably be my extenuating list lol.
I love both your neutrogena picks! I can’t be without that moisturizer. It’s amazing. I would grab the deep clean scrub, it’s amazing.
Last night actually, 3 am, I bought at the corner CVS a tube if Clearasil and Neutrogena Wash because my fresh was beginning to break out and Saturday I have a huge day and need to look presentable. I didn’t want an hour to go by since I was up anyway, without starting to get rid if the breakout!
Probably toothpaste, a toothbrush, lip balm and some deodorant.
Most places you end up staying tend to have something you can use as soap/bodywash/shampoo in a pinch!
Hmmmm…great question. Last time I had an impromptu visit with my parents and I needed/wanted a shower, I just used my mom’s stuff. It worked pretty well. If I knew there was a chance I would stay overnight, I would probably pack some travel stuff and just keep it in my car. But if it really was an emergency trip I would need:
~Disposable razors (we southern Italian women – at least the ones in my family – have dark body hair that really needs to get taken care of every other day or every day).
~mouthwash/toothpaste/toothbrush – like you, I like having a fresh, clean mouth before bed.
~hairbrush/shampoo/conditioner/leave-in product – if my hair was in need of being washed, if not, a hairbrush would be necessary and maybe some leave-in product.
~Anti-aging stuff/zit stuff – can’t live without salicyclic acid. I use a lotion on my chin area containing it (since my chin/mouth breaks out the most), and I use a salicyclic acid gel to spot treat. Retinol takes care of oiliness and zits as well, so if I go too long without that stuff my skin has issues.
~body wash/face wash – not terribly picky as long as it gets the job done.
~BB cream – for evening out my skin and making me look “done,” even if I don’t have everything I would normally wear.
~makeup remover if I am wearing some. If I can’t get to remover, I would use olive or coconut oil and face wash/soap to remove makeup.
Without a doubt I get Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes and some travel size nivea cream. Can be used on ashy areas, skin and believe it or not your hair!
