So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
Gah! This question is surprisingly difficult because I’m a foundation junkie. I like to switch up my base game a lot!
Hmm… I guess if I were using MAC Studio Fix Fluid for a year, I could stick it out, because at least I’d be able to sheer it out as much as I wanted to with Strobe Cream…
So, I’ll go with the foundation, because I CANNOT IMAGINE only being able to wear the same lipstick for an entire year!
2. Highlight of your weekend?
Getting our Christmas tree and decorating the house with ALL THE HOLIDAY SPARKLE. It was so much fun! Connor and Rosie were very helpful with hanging up the ornaments and whatnot, but this was the first year I left like Connor truly interacted with me and was excited about the process. To see her get so excited about lights and tinsel was such a treat!
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
Easy. Red lipstick!
4. Rain or snow?
Rain, and ideally a refreshing tropical rain in Hawaii!
5. Snowboarding or skiing?
Neither? I don’t really get excited about snow, but if I have to pick one…I’ll pick snowboarding because I think there’s less equipment to deal with.
6. A skin care product you like a lot?
Seriously, I wish CeraVe sold their Skin Renewing Night Cream in an industrial-sized tub!
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas?
“The hills are alive with the sound of music…”
8. Essie or OPI?
Essie! Gel Couture all the way.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
With whipped cream *and* sprinkles because it’s 2020, and anything goes.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
With. Have you ever had hot chocolate at the Ritz Carlton? Lordy, decadence!

Christine, that’s the first time I’ve heard about filming in Pennsylvania. I’ve always read that the film’s locations were in Austria, aside from the famous opening which was filmed in Germany (in Bavaria, right across the border). They give tours from Salzburg to nearly all the famous locations, except for the field which is privately owned. I’d be interested to know about the Pennsylvania connection! 🙂
Me too!
Kim,
It is hearsay from one of my yoga teachers who attended a required training in a remote town in Pennsylvania lol. According to her hosts, one of the mountain/outdoor scenes was filmed there!
Very cool!!! 🙂

With! Decadence is a MUST with hot chocolate.
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo!

It is absolutely my favorite song in the musical! I once treated my husband to it while we were driving…he still married me AND didn’t drive off the road. I remember he was trying to fall asleep that night and was like, “All I can hear is YODELING!”
Bahahahahaha!
Hahahaha! I must’ve listened to that song a ga-jillion times in the past few months because Connor’s ballet class did their recital routine to it. They danced to the new cast version of the song, though. Have you heard Carrie Underwood’s take on it? It’s really good.
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
Foundation. I hardly wear any, anyway!
2. Highlight of your weekend?
Getting our tree and watching movies. For the first time in years, I won the “white vs. colored lights” contest. I always advocate for all white lights but am outvoted. This year, my family happily relented, I’m still not sure why!!
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
Red lipstick–MAC Devoted to Chili. Wow, I miss wearing lipstick.
4. Rain or snow?
Rain. We had a foot of wet, heavy, sloppy snow last week. It looks pretty, but it’s hard on the delicate trees, plus I was up a ladder at 11:00pm shoveling a 5-foot snowdrift off the flat part of the roof. I can’t even think of an emoji for that.
5. Snowboarding or skiing?
Skiing, though it’s been awhile! Cross-country skiing is enjoyable. I use a cross-country ski trainer in the winter when I can’t get out on walks.
6. A skin care product you like a lot?
Juice spray moisturizer. Forget the official name, but it’s quick and easy to use and works and smells good. Four positives!
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas?
That’s tough, but I’ll go with Charlie Brown.
8. Essie or OPI?
OPI. But either will do!
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
Without, I never had it with whipped cream until I was an adult. Marshmallows, for sure! But I prefer a small cup of strong, dark, European-style hot cocoa on its own. Plenty going on there already!
Hi Amy,
We’ve been doing white lights (my favorite) for the last few years, but this year we’ve decided to embrace all the colors! Our house is borderline crazy town. LOL. Totally not Instagrammable but so, so fun.
Hope you’re having a great Monday so far.

6. A skin care product you like a lot? Cerave Day Lotion with SPF 30
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Charlie Brown – the soundtrack is my favorite Christmas CD of all time.

9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? Hot chocolate with everything please, cause why not?
Hi Daphne,
I’m a CeraVe fan so that lotion is going on my wish list ASAP! I just started using the night one (in the purple and white jar) and it has been life changing.
Happy Monday!
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? Oh that’s a tough one. I’m gonna go with lipstick, because my skin is different from summer to winter.
2. Highlight of your weekend? Ramen from a new place. Not exactly close, so had to reheat it once it got home. You can tell it was a dud of a weekend around here.
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Red lipstick. Hate red shadow.
4. Rain or snow? Snow. But at this point with no measurable rain, I want rain.
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Neither.

7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Charlie Brown Christmas.
8. Essie or OPI? Essie Gel Couture! Hand down!
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? I like super thick Venetian hot chocolate, so without is preferred.
Ramen is EXCITING. I can’t remember the last time I had a bowl of ramen made by someone other than me. It must’ve been last January?
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? Lipstick because I don’t wear foundation.
2. Highlight of your weekend? A stray cat in my neighborhood had kittens, and they’ve been found. They’ve already got homes and Mama kitty has an appointment to be spayed in January, and we’ll be taking her in. But it’s a relief to know that the kittens are safe and healthy.
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Lipstick.
4. Rain or snow? I’ve never really experienced snow living in central CA, so I’ll go with rain.

7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas?
The Sound of Music but I have a soft spot for Charlie Brown.
8. Essie or OPI?
Essie!
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
With LOTS of whipped cream
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
The same foundation; I typically do anyway.
2. Highlight of your weekend?
I took a nice walk yesterday through the neighborhood despite windchills in the low 30s. Spotted a herd of deer, enjoyed the holiday decorations and got to watch the sunset. It was pretty chill…literally!
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
Red lipstick.
4. Rain or snow?
Snow, please. I really don’t like getting wet.

Skiing. I’ve never done either but skiing seems easier.
6. A skin care product you like a lot?
Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil.

8. Essie or OPI?
Essie.

With, of course!
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
Same lipstick.
2. Highlight of your weekend?
FaceTiming Mom
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
Red eyeshadow (sheered out)
4. Rain or snow?
Rain – ditto on the tropical kind.
5. Snowboarding or skiing?
Have never gone either, so I’m not sure. I guess I’d pick snowboarding since it sounds less complicated and more fun (but then again I wouldn’t know)
6. A skin care product you like a lot?
The Fresh Rose face serum
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas?
Sound of Music
8. Essie or OPI?
OPI.. (Don’t think I’ve ever tried Essie)
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
Hmmm…. Without.
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? Foundation.
2. Highlight of your weekend? Nothing comes to mind. At least I’m still alive and don’t have COVID-19 (so far as I know).
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Lipstick.
4. Rain or snow? Snow. I live in an area that gets 32″ t0 50″ inches of rain a year, but most years gets no snow at all. I haven’t seen snow in several years.
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Can’t do either. If I could, I would like to ski.
6. A skin care product you like a lot? Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid.
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Charlie Brown Christmas. It’s the only Christmas album I own, and the only one I can stand. Credit 7 years of having to sing Christmas carols over and over in school, to the point I can barely stand them, even now. Also, I had two years of them in band class. The Sound of Music never really appealed to me.
8. Essie or OPI? OPI, though I do own both brands.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? I’m used to it without, since my family rarely ever bought whipped cream.
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
Same foundation, which I already do-at this point, the only way I’m wearing a foundation other than Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte is if I ran out and I’m waiting for the new bottle to ship!
2. Highlight of your weekend?
I’ve had some unusual scheduling at work the past couple weeks, so Sunday alone was a highlight because I was finally done with the odd hours! Either that or the new SNL-the writing was pretty spotty, but host Jason Bateman was as cute and funny as ever!
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
I may have a slight preference for red lipstick, but I will happily wear red lipstick, red blush, and red eyeshadow along with Louboutin Rouge Louboutin mascara-the same shade of red as the shoe soles!
4. Rain or snow?
Rain-the roads don’t get as messed up as they do in the snow!
5. Snowboarding or skiing?
As several here have said, neither. I’ll just hang out by the fire with a book or my laptop.
6. A skin care product you like a lot?
L’Oreal RevitaLift 10% glycolic acid and 1.5% hyaluronic acid serums.
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas?
A Charlie Brown Christmas-for some reason, Sound of Music just gets on my nerves.
8. Essie or OPI?
I don’t really wear nail polish anymore, but if I ever get in the mood again, I’ll go with OPI.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream?
Duh, with!
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? I don’t wear foundation so I guess I’d have to choose lipstick.
2. Highlight of your weekend? Beach weather – spent all of Sunday at the beach in Sydney. The water is still a little fresh but loving being out in the sun.
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Red lipstick. I’m allergic to the red pigment they use for eyeshadows. My eyelids get swollen for days. I get this same reaction with any shade that has a red pigment – even some browns.
4. Rain or snow? Oh I don’t like the cold so I’d have to go with rain.
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Neither. Completely uncoordinated and would probably break some bones either choice.
6. A skin care product you like a lot? Lip balm. By terry to be exact.
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Sound of music. I listened to the soundtrack non stop on a flight from Sydney to Dubai
8. Essie or OPI? I’ve only ever used opi so it’s not really a choice.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? Without. I find hot chocolate super rich already
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation?
Definitely foundation; I can’t fathom wearing the same lipstick for a year. Heck, I switch out lipsticks multiple times a day!
2. Highlight of your weekend? Doing nothing-it was fabulous. Weather was awesome and I saw the most Pine Siskins I’ve ever seen in my very own back yard! Also finished decorating the house which is always fun.
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Lipstick for sure!
4. Rain or snow? Rain but it would be nice to see some snow around these parts. I think it’s been 7 years since we’ve had any.
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Never done either so this one’s a toss up
6. A skin care product you like a lot? The one I’m currently using I don’t like, but thanks for the Cerave recommendation – I’m putting it on my list right now!
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Julie Andrews for the win!
8. Essie or OPI? Essie Essie Essie. I used to live by OPI but not so much lately….
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? With! And I’ll take a generous helping of your sprinkles, Karen!
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? Both? HAHA! I know you’re cringing right now. 🙂 Foundation.
2. Highlight of your weekend? Same! We got our tree, decked out the living room and I’m so happy every time I’m in there. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Eyeshadow.
4. Rain or snow? Snow!
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Skiing. I’m not a skateboarder either. 🙂
6. A skin care product you like a lot? SkinMedica retinol.
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? 100% Sound of Music. I love that movie so much.
8. Essie or OPI? Essie.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? With. And have you seen the new hot chocolate bombs (new here, anyway). They’re homemade with a chocolate shell and filled with marshmallows, etc. Like a bath bomb but you pour hot milk over it and watch it snap, crackle and pop into hot chocolate. I’ll bet Connor would love it! Oh, looks like Costco has them. So, commercially made, as well. 🙂
I haven’t! I did spy a chocolate snowman at Trader Joe’s last week (you stick it in warm milk or water and he dissolves), but I hesitated because I had a feeling that Connor would feel sorry for the poor, melty snowman. The chocolate bombs sound delightful!
I’ll let you know when I do the boys’. I haven’t seen one in action but they are apparently all the rage and lots of folks have told me how they work and how cool they are. I think you’re right about Connor and the snowman. I felt a bit sorry for him myself! We got ours as gifts and they have a little peppermint action, too (crushed candy cane on the top). Some crafty moms – which I am SO not – were talking about getting molds and doing a bomb-making party. I probably should have worked on the phrasing there. HAHA!
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? I’d say foundation. I use ones that are buildable so I can adjust coverage to suit my needs.
2. Highlight of your weekend? I decorated the house. At first I wasn’t feeling very enthusiastic because my husband and I are empty nesters and we won’t be having friends or family in our home until the covid situation is much improved. But then I thought, what the heck! My husband and I are worth decking the halls ?. So that is what I did. It makes me smile and feel happy to see the decorations.
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow? Red lipstick. Tis the season!
4. Rain or snow? I love the rain and it doesn’t matter whether I’m cozy inside or sloshing around outdoors. Love it!
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Skiing has a grace and fluidity about it that is missing from snowboarding. Snowboarding is a lot of fun, but it’s more rough and tumble. Since I’m getting on in years, I’ll leave that to the young hotshots ?. I feel more connected to the mountain when I’m on skis. I started skiing in 1960–no snowboards back then.
6. A skin care product you like a lot? Jack Black’s Protein Booster Serum. I’ve used it for probably 15 years. I use a lot of other products, too, but good old Jack Black is my all time favorite basic skin care product. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? The Sound of Music is a perennial favorite.
8. Essie or OPI? Ahhh . . . I wear my nails natural and unpolished most of the time so I don’t have a preference. Since polish for me is just for special occasions, I’m more about the color than the brand.
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? If I’m going to indulge in hot chocolate, I want a big mound of whipped cream floating on top—enough to give me a creamy mustache.
1. Would you rather wear the same lipstick for a year or the same foundation? Foundation
2. Highlight of your weekend?
Family walk
3. Red lipstick or red eyeshadow?
Lipstick
4. Rain or snow?
Snow, you don’t get wet from snow!
5. Snowboarding or skiing? Snowboarding
6. A skin care product you like a lot? Hand cream lol lots of brands
7. The Sound of Music or A Charlie Brown Christmas? Charlie Brown! I didn’t watch sound of music until I was 30 and it was odd and slightly depressing at times lol but I did know all the songs!
8. Essie or OPI? Opi
9. Hot chocolate: with or without whipped cream? Without’
