So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?
1. One of your favorite makeup palettes?
MAC Nordstrom Naturals, for sure.
2. A lipstick shade that lights up your face?
There’s something about Stila Beso. I think it’s just magical, but not only on me. On everyone.
3. Something you’d like but don’t necessarily need?
Seriously, I would absolutely LOVE a Concept 2 rower! Or a Volvo SUV. If either arrived on my doorstep, I would not be mad about it. 🙃
4. Have you ever won any money?
Small potatoes, but yeah, a surprising number of times while gambling on slot machines. I’ve also happened to be with people who claim to never ever win anything, but they’ve won while I was around. I’ve been told that I’m a lucky charm, but I don’t know!
Now that I think about it, I should probably be buying lottery tickets.
5. Quick — name one of the first pieces of makeup you ever fell in love with.
MAC Spite Lipglass got me through my early twenties. We had a lot of fun together!
6. French manicure: yes or no?
On other people, sure, but on me, no. I like my nails super short, and I feel like French manicures look better on longer fingernails.
7. Sparkling or flat water?
I like flat water, but lately I’ve been all about sparkling because my stomach has been crazy nervous lately! Bubbly water seems to help calm it down, and I’m deeply addicted to La Croix (once again).
8. Shy or outgoing?
Mostly outgoing…but occasionally shy.
9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
Apple pie, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream please. This, of course, is assuming that the pie has a bomb-@ss — did I really just hyphenate that? — crust. It has to be flaky, buttery and tender; otherwise, I’ll have absolutely nothing to do with it.
I’m picky about pie, man. 😁

5. Quick — name one of the first pieces of makeup you ever fell in love with.
MAC’s Pink Swoon (Blush). This was during the time when I decided I would start investing in quality makeup and tools. I still remember me going to a newly opened MAC store, and the makeup artist trying this on me. It was the first time I realized that blush could actually look good (and show up) on my my tan skin without me looking like a clown.

No, not anymore. I found them really fascinating in the 00s though

Flat
8. Shy or outgoing?
A little bit of both I guess, depends on the company. Though I wouldn’t call myself shy. Aloof, maybe. 🙃

Both are good. For right now, apple.

3. Something you’d like but don’t necessarily need? A new iPad (Side note: I have just bought a brand new Volvo XC40 and I love it – it’s small but my garage is small, and it fits perfectly.)
4. Have you ever won any money? Sadly, no.
5. Quick — name one of the first pieces of makeup you ever fell in love with. Frankly it’s been too many years to remember.
6. French manicure: yes or no? No – I prefer one color.
7. Sparkling or flat water? Both. If I am feeling fancy, then sparkling.

9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie? Either or both! But, like you, it has to have a buttery rich flaky crust, or no go.

4. Have you ever won any money? No and I’m not to be trusted trying to win any either. I did some slots on a day cruise once and was ridiculous. I just kept putting coins in and getting nothing back. Thank goodness I wasn’t a home owner yet. I would have lost everything.
5. Quick — name one of the first pieces of makeup you ever fell in love with. Elizabeth Arden Mauve Dreams blush and lipstick. I was a high school freshman and my mother had taken me to a department store for “real makeup.”
6. French manicure: yes or no? Yes! I agree with you, it looks nicer on a longer nail but I wear one even if I’ve short nails, which is much of the time.
7. Sparkling or flat water? Flat. However, my grocery store had a spiced apple seltzer water on the shelf yesterday. I’m thinking of getting some to mix with spiced rum.
8. Shy or outgoing? Outgoing introvert if that makes any sense. I’m not afraid to talk to people and in fact, I’m always grilling strangers in the grocery line about what they’re going to make with whatever they’re buying, especially if they’re buying a lot of one thing. But I’d rather not speak to anyone.
9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie? Pumpkin! I’m thinking of setting a 31 day challenge for myself in October. Can I have something pumpkin every day?
What color Volvo SUV? I really want to say white but that seems to be the standard shade around these parts. So, maybe silver. I think black would be cool but a major pain to keep clean!

Happy Monday to you! Thanks for asking about Connor. She’s LOVING kinder so far. It’s such a joy to drop her off every morning and watch her go into her classroom with her head held high and a smile on her face. I hope she continues to love learning and school as much as she does now.

i have been good. I am a second year grad student . i never thought i would be this far.
1. One of your favorite makeup palettes? Urban Decay Naked, the original.
2. A lipstick shade that lights up your face? Mac Ruby Woo, it’s a classic for a reason.
3. Something you’d like but don’t necessarily need? A housekeeper. I’m a stay at home mom, so I don’t really need one, but there are times I’d really enjoy one.
4. Have you ever won any money? The first time I ever played a slot machine, I won $50. I have no clue how I did it, I literally pushed buttons and out popped $50.
5. Quick — name one of the first pieces of makeup you ever fell in love with. It was a Revlon pressed powder. Good Lord I loved it when I was 14.
6. French manicure: yes or no? Yes. I think they look so clean and neat, but I never do them.
7. Sparkling or flat water? Sparkle. I really like the Aldi brand, Belle Vie. The original. It’s the only one I drink.
8. Shy or outgoing? I call myself an extroverted introvert.
9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie? I do love both, but I prefer pumpkin pie over apple pie, but apple crisp over pumpkin pie.

I don’t really use palettes at the moment. Liquids, creams, and a few single-pot staples.

Nah. Never interested in trying. I did win a giant Cadbury bar in 4th grade during the weekly book report drawing. Highlight of the year!

Benefit They’re Real mascara. I wore that a lot for awhile!

Yes, but colorful, where the tips are complementary colors to the nail beds, bonus points for mix n match palette.

Both, usually flat, sparkling mixed with juice or the sparkling and still mixed together—not crazy about too many bubbles.
8. Shy or outgoing?
Depends on the day and the situation. Though never shy, actually—that’s never an issue, just sometimes don’t feel like talking.
9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
I’m with you on the flaky crust and solid pie. I love crisp too. A good pumpkin pie is awesome. But cherry is the best. Or chocolate pie, of course.
How do we feel about citrus pies, like lemon meringue or key lime pie? I’m a fan!
Love them for about 5 bites. Then they get too sweet for me!! Kind of like lemon bars–its’ a love-hate relationship lol!
I have the same feelings about lemon bars! I used to love them when I was a kid, but now I can’t handle more than a few bites. When I’m in the mood for them, they sure hit the spot, though!

This is a tough one. There aren’t many pies I do not enjoy. I’m going with pumpkin today because fall will be here soon! Preferably a pecan pumpkin pie.

Nope. I’m the opposite of you; I’m a jinx. I lose games of chance, and if someone on a winning streak bets for me, they’ll start losing. Every time. It’s uncanny.

When Wet n Wild first came out, they had a translucent, opalescent lavender eyeliner pencil. I don’t remember the number. I loved to layer it over their blue eye pencil to get an amazing electric purple. I thought it was so cool when I was 14!
6. French manicure: yes or no?
Not a traditional one, but I’d go for one with black or neon tips.
7. Sparkling or flat water?
Flavored sparkling, otherwise flat. Plain sparkling water tastes awful to me.
8. Shy or outgoing?
Neither. I’m an ambivert. Even when I’m feeling more introverted, I’m not shy.
9. Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
I love both, but I’ll go with pumpkin pie, preferably with real whipped cream.

So many to choose from! I admit though being more drawn to unique packaging or the unique designs imprinted on the makeup (like Chantecaille’s wolf eyeshadow trio), or the weight like a Pat McGrath’s palette (which to me signifies quality protection for a quality product within). NARS eyeshdaow palettes, too, with their unique and unusual containers (still love the Cool Crush palette, with the silver crinkly cover)
2. A lipstick shade that lights up your face?
Right now I’m focusing on plums or berry shades, with Fall/Winter coming, but haven’t started shopping for any. Would love to hear your recommendations!
3. Something you’d like but don’t necessarily need?
A vacation, preferably Maui. Or maybe Japan. Heck, I’d settle for a pup tent in the backyard!

When I was 10 or 11, my ‘cousin’ (family friend’s daughter), ‘uncle’, my dad, and I went to the horse track, all of us going there for the first time – we won $100!

It was one of the NARS lipsticks (one of the originals). Unfortunately I can’t remember if it was either the Jungle Red or Red Lizard.

Sadly, it doesn’t look good on my short fingers. I think it looks absolutely stunning though on those with longer fingers.
7. Sparkling or flat water?
Sparkling water during afternoons when I’m craving a fizzling drink, otherwise flat for morning and at night.

It depends on how many people are in earshot of conversation and the personality of the people I’m with. I get goofy around people I know and trust, otherwise I’m more reserved.

Both! My auntie and cousin (her daughter) are the pie makers in the family, and I always look forward to Thanksgiving, when the pies come out LOL. One of these days I’m going to get their secret recipes…….
