So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Where did you put your makeup on today?
In my office, at my desk. It was early when I put it on and that room has the best lighting in the house. (Side note: I saw a woman putting on makeup in her car the other day, which is why I thought of this question.)
2. What does your winter coat look like?
On really cold days (well, cold for California), I wear a khaki puffer coat, and on days when it’s raining, I wear a yellow rain coat.
3. Have you ever gone through a roller blading phase?
LOL, yeah, in college. During my last two years I roller bladed everywhere. Honestly, it’s a miracle I didn’t break anything, and I still can’t believe I did all that blading while carrying a heavy backpack.
4. How meticulously do you plan your holiday gift giving? Do you stick closely to your list or do you shop on the fly?
I fall somewhere in the middle. I usually start with a list and grab as much as I can, but I also like to pick up fun extras and stocking stuffers if I see things that the person might like while I’m out and about.
5. A traditional dish/food you usually have during the holidays?
Leche flan, which is like the Filipino version of creme brulee.
6. Describe your hair today in three words.
A touch unruly.
7. Solid leggings or printed leggings?
I’ll go with the solid leggings, in a dark color — navy or black.
8. Something trendy you used to do when you were a kid?
When I was in middle school all the girls wore two pairs of slouchy socks. To do it right, they had to be different colors — black and pink, or black and white, for example. Oh, and the chunkier the slouchy socks were, the better.

1. Where did you put your makeup on today? I always put my makeup on in the bathroom vanity. It’s not the best lighting, but lately I haven’t been wearing much anyway, just TM and mascara
2. What does your winter coat look like? Black and old.
3. Have you ever gone through a roller blading phase? No, my balance has always been off.
4. How meticulously do you plan your holiday gift giving? Do you stick closely to your list or do you shop on the fly? I don’t buy gifts for the holidays.
5. A traditional dish/food you usually have during the holidays? Fried potato latkes that my husband makes, but since it was just us two, we didn’t bother.
6. Describe your hair today in three words. Washed, grey & dry.
7. Solid leggings or printed leggings? I prefer solid black as they make my heavy claves, less heavy looking.
8. Something trendy you used to do when you were a kid? I wore Oloff Daughter clogs. I made my dad buy me a pair because the cheap pair he did let me buy fell apart the second day I wore them.

2. What does your winter coat look like? I have many for the different temperatures- Gray puffer with black furry hood, cranberry pea coat with hood, lighter cranberry coat that is an asymmetrical pea coat, etc.
3. Have you ever gone through a roller blading phase? Yes- when I was younger. I was okay- I was probably better on roller skates though. (I could go backwards in roller skates, but not in roller blades.)
4. How meticulously do you plan your holiday gift giving? Do you stick closely to your list or do you shop on the fly? A little bit of both. Had to plan sooner because of shipping times
5. A traditional dish/food you usually have during the holidays? Mashed potatoes

I have a longish black moto peacoat in a faux wool for Old Navy for when it’s 25 to 40 or so and a big long bottle green puffer for when it’s really cold.

I wore the lowest of low rise jeans in high school with absurd heels.

2. What does your winter coat look like? Crimson red parka with fake fur-trimmed hood. It looks like one of those uber-priced ones but I got it at Land’s End for $80.

4. How meticulously do you plan your holiday gift giving? Do you stick closely to your list or do you shop on the fly? It’s pretty much on the fly.
5. A traditional dish/food you usually have during the holidays? Lefse It’s a Scandanavian flatbread made out of riced potatoes lots of butter/cream/sugar with enough flour to hold it together, rolled into a big round and baked on a lefse griddle. Think giant tortilla but much softer and sweeter. Generally eaten with butter and sugar my husband likes putting ham and cheese on his and rolling it up.

8. Something trendy you used to do when you were a kid? Traded handmade beaded bracelets with the “cool” girls at school.

I had a Land’s End coat once and loved it because it was so warm!

2. What does your winter coat look like? It doesn’t get that cold in Central CA. I have a lot of jackets, and a red-orange rain coat, but honestly, a sweatshirt is usually enough to keep you warm in the winter.

Navy puffer and in very dire need of a clean. It’s been tossed on some barn equipment whenever I got hot, never thinking what was on said saddle keeper, hook, standards, floor (really shouldn’t put it on the floor) … well, it should probably be decontaminated.

I have several — a rust orange puffer anorak with furry hood for cold, cold temps and snow, a black hooded peacoat for dress, a sporty black fuzzy coat with funky zippers and shiny quilted sleeves…whew, apparently I have a lot of coats and jackets. It’s good because I am always cold.

No, but I did have an extremely brief roller skating phase.

When I’m with family, we share a very bland Christmas morning coffeecake. I try to help the recipe by slathering the finished product with butter, but it is irredeemable.

2. This year I have several! I have a shiny metallic puffer coat, a white peacoat that goes to my calves😍, and a couple more utilitarian ones. All of them are from the thrift store! It’s so fun to have choices this year.
3. Yes! I remember when I first got rollerblades and my parents cautioned me to start slow but I zoomed right down the driveway with no problem. I had a hard time stopping and I would have to spin in a tight circle to stop. My son was invited to a roller skating party a couple weeks ago and I had a blast rolling around the rink with him. I couldn’t stop with my tight circle spin like I used to, though! 😆
4. A few years ago when I was more worried about money I had a spreadsheet. We’ve been very fortunate this year but I still write everyone down on a list to make sure I don’t miss anybody!
5. Tortilla de pata. It’s a Spanish dish my grandmother used to make for my dad growing up. It’s simple comfort food and I like to make it during the holidays to feel closer to my family that lives hundreds of miles away.

7. Solid. I feel like my legs are too short and thick for patterns. It stretches them out and it’s depressing.
