So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no?
Yes, please, but only the sprays that wash out with shampoo. When I was getting my hair colored, I loved temporary spray dyes for my roots. My favorite was Rita Hazan Root Concealer! It’s not stiff or sticky and washes out easily.
Side note: I’m seriously thinking about doing a demi-permanent color to cover my grays. I’ve been going back and forth for the last couple weeks.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day?
When I was a teenager, I loved reading “Sassy,” “Seventeen” and “YM.” Occasionally, I’d get my mitts on a teenybopper fan magazine with New Kids on the Block on the cover, but that was rare. I was more into beauty than boys at that time.
When I was in my 20s and 30s, my favorites were “In Style” and “Real Simple.”
3. How’s your tennis game?
Seriously, I’m the worst. You don’t want to play tennis with me. LOL!
4. Houndstooth or gingham?
Gingham, please!
5. A hair length that suits you?
I do pretty well with anything around shoulder length. If I go any longer my hair starts to get heavy.
6. Something you learned recently?
I listened to a podcast recently and found out the words quote and quotation aren’t technically interchangeable.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about?
I may or may not have just ordered some stuff from Bobbi Brown’s line, Jones Road. I’m really curious about the new foundation!
8. Something beauty related that you’re totally over?
Eyeshadow palettes upon eyeshadow palettes. I used to love collecting them, but now not so much. They just take up a lot of space and I only use one or two shadows at a time. The only palette I’ve consistently used in the last year has been my Honest Beauty palette. I still like it a lot!
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
More decluttering! It’s taking forever, but every time I say goodbye to something I really don’t need, I feel so good afterwards.
Oh, and I can go to bed early. 🙂 Rest is a good thing!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

4. Houndstooth or gingham?
5. A hair length that suits you?
6. Something you learned recently?

9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
P.P.S. Good morning, beautiful girl. It’s Memorial Day weekend here; thank you to those in the military for your service. And thank you to your families, too, as military life asks a lot of partners and children. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Today Coywolf and I have the day off, so I’ll be taking it easy with my not-so-tiny dancer! I’m going to take her to lunch and then we’ll be doing our nails. I’m really looking forward to it.
Anywho, have a great day. I hope sweet things happen to you this week and that people treat you with kindness. 🤗

I feel the same way about eye shadow palettes. I used to buy way toooooo many & get hyped up for new releases. Now I’m like ehhh. I’m excited to hear what you have to say about Jones Roads. I’ve tried the miracle balm (ehh) and the just a sec eye shadow. It’s pretty. The balm I just don’t understand how to use without looking greasy. I have watched numerous videos lol
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? I can’t use semi-permanent ones because they won’t “soak in.” I prefer not to use temporary root cover-up, but I will in an emergency.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, Western Horseman, Equus, Horse & Rider. I was a news junkie who also desperately wanted a horse. A dream that did not and apparently will not come true.
3. How’s your tennis game? Non-existent. TX is too hot most of the year to play tennis outdoors.
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Gingham.
5. A hair length that suits you? Slightly longer than shoulder length.
6. Something you learned recently? TX allows 18-year-olds to buy assault-style rifles, when the same state thinks you have to be 21 to drink. Of course, their answer to criticism on this would be to lower the drinking age.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? Skincare, I guess. Shouldn’t get my hopes up too high for what skincare can do.
8. Something beauty related that you’re totally over? Highlighters.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? Get more sleep. However, my life is insanely stressful, and I’m also a cancer patient (with other health problems). I wonder if I’ll ever have a truly stress-free, happy week again in my life (though that raises the question, did I ever really have one?).
I also think you have to be 21 to buy a handgun but it’s 18 for the assault weapon… SMH. I am praying for things to get less stressful for you! Hang in there.
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no?
I’m not into that, really. I might when the grey gets too noticeable but for now I’m content with my natural colour.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day?
Vogue, for a brief time. I never had magazine subscriptions.
3. How’s your tennis game?
Probably very, very bad.
4. Houndstooth or gingham?
Hmm, both are alright. I guess gingham.
5. A hair length that suits you?
Shoulder length or a bit shorter.
6. Something you learned recently?
A silly revelation of mine but technically an opal is neutral, since the stone is mainly white. Making it easy to mix with other gems or pearls, and easy to style with clothing.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about?
I have enough to back to Mac… I’m thinking all that glitters or dreamy beams.
8. Eyeliner today?
Not today but I tightlined yesterday.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
Stretch, stay hydrated and a bit of exercise. I had an infection a month ago and my body still feels off ☹️
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? No, I tend to go all-in on hair color changes.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? Seventeen in my teens. After that, I used to read Sunset (which was a magazine geared towards people in the Pacific Northwest – I still have some of their old recipes)
3. How’s your tennis game? Makes my golf game look good.
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Gingham
5. A hair length that suits you? Collarbone length. Too short with my round cheeks I look like I’m storing nuts for the winter.
6. Something you learned recently? When it says “easy to assemble” it is . . .if you’re an engineer.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? I found a lash serum that actually makes my lashes longer and doesn’t irritate or give me styes like another brand did (took months to clear up). It’s Me Time Botanicals RevitalEyezing Eye Serum+ Lash and Brow Enhancing Concentrate.
8. Eyeliner today? No, just sunscreen and lip balm – yard work day.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? Get in my walk before it gets hot so I don’t skip it.
And on this Memorial Day, my thoughts go out to you that have lost loved ones in military service, may they never be forgotten.
First of all, I’m indebted to everyone who sacrificed to preserve and protect our country. I know that heartfelt gratitude will never be compensation enough for the families who bore the burden of laying a loved one to rest. “May their memory be for a blessing.”
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? I don’t know. The last time I colored my hair was 63 years ago and the temp rinses we had back then were probably much different from what’s available today.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? Vogue.
3. How’s your tennis game? I haven’t played in decades, but I used to love to play doubles. My husband was the much stronger player, but I had a wicked backhand.
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Gingham.
5. A hair length that suits you? Below the shoulders.
6. Something you learned recently? CL’s answer to this question is perfect. I’m stunned with disbelief every time I hear one of the TX officials making excuses.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? Autumnal beauty. I’m never really excited about summer makeup collections. I save my enthusiasm for the fall collections instead.
8. Eyeliner today? Not today. In fact, I’m not wearing any makeup today.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? I have an appointment with the optometrist this week.
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no?
I’m actually not sure. Never thought much for temporary hair dyes, maybe I might give it a try some time.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day?
Young Times, Seventeen
3. How’s your tennis game?
Not good.
4. Houndstooth or gingham?
Seriously trying to get away from both at the moment. If I had to choose, gingham.
5. A hair length that suits you?
Past my shoulder blades, in the middle of my back.
6. Something you learned recently?
That Downy Wrinkle Free ironing spray (the travel size) is available at Rite Aid.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about?
Wearing tons of lipstick now that I’m not wearing my mask that often.
8. Eyeliner today?
No
(Also something beauty related that I’m totally over would be ‘haul’ videos and hauls in general)
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
Keep up my daytime + nighttime skin care routine, my daily walk, and sunscreen
Happy Day 🌞 Have a good rest of the long weekend! And a good work week ahead
I hope your Monday off has been relaxing!

8. Eyeliner today? Nope!
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? Eat lunch – I am notorious for snacking through the day.
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no?
Yes! It’s a nice way to try a color you may not know is flattering but washes out after some washes.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day?
I’m still a National Geographic girl, but once read Seventeen and Better Homes & Gardens. I wasn’t ever much of a magazine girl. Much prefer my books.
3. How’s your tennis game?
I’m terrible at it. I have no hand-eye-ball coordination.
4. Houndstooth or gingham?
Gingham PLEASE. Houndstooth is an instant migraine maker.
5. A hair length that suits you?
Shoulder length, but right now I’m shorter.
6. Something you learned recently?
There are more kinds of boobies than a blue footed booby. There’s a yellow-footed booby, red-footed booby, brown footed booby…
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about?
I’m not. I’m kind of on a beauty low.
8. Eyeliner today?
Wore brown.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
Cuddle Goose, my lesson horse. My coach’s personal jumping horse, Peter, has been in the horse hospital for the past two weeks. He’s out of the woods but he was very very sick and we hope he’ll be discharged by Sunday. If he is, it’ll be gentle gentle pets. I’ve cried a lot because he’s a special goofy horse to all of us. Goose has been comforting to me these past two weeks.
Hello, my friend! I hope you and Connor had a wonderful day together! 🙂
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? I use a demi-permanent glaze to even out my color if it starts to get a bit off (too ashy or warm). I would definitely use it if I was considering growing out my gray, since I’m probably 90% gray now and would have a huge line of demarcation! For coverage, permanent always wins for me.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? I wasn’t really into magazines when I was young but always enjoyed flipping through Travel and Leisure, EW and cooking mags like Bon Appetite and Gourmet.
3. How’s your tennis game? Funny you ask that because I’ve been thinking a lot lately about picking up a racquet. I haven’t played in many years, but my nephew is playing at Arthur Ashe stadium this week for high school States and we’re thinking of going to watch.
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Houndstooth if I had to pick. I’m not a pattern person, though.
5. A hair length that suits you? Below the shoulder (two or three inches).
6. Something you learned recently? People call Teddy Roosevelt “TR”. I’d never heard that until last night on the History Channel. FDR for Franklin, yes. But never TR for Teddy.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? Getting my hair cut next week. I’ve been trimming my bangs and layers, so my stylist has her work cut out for her. HAHA!
8. Eyeliner today? Yes, my usual shadow-as-liner. The darkest brown of the EL Desert Heat palette.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? Cut back on the carbs and work out every night.
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? Not into dying my hair plus it’s so dark that I don’t think fun colors would show up
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? 80s girl here – Seventeen & Teen. Later on Self & InStyle
3. How’s your tennis game? Nonexistent
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Gingham especially in the summer
5. A hair length that suits you? Super short pixie. I’ve done long hair but I have a lot & I can’t be bothered to fuss with it so I stick with the pixie. I do get lots of compliments on my hair (not to brag) so it must suit me. Although I had a crazy lady stalk me at my job and want to follow me to my next haircut so she could see how to get the same style. I was waiting for her to jump me in the parking lot 😬
6. Something you learned recently? My vacuum is not doing its job – got a new one and got up a disturbing amount of cat fur and I had used the old one the day before. I swear I don’t live in squalor 😂
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? I’ve starting using an Apple cider rinse/shampoo. Interested to see how this pans out
8. Eyeliner today? Kat Von D tattoo liner in brown.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? My husband & I are getting a night out through his work which includes dinner, a night at the Four Seasons in Philly and spa treatments. Bring on the pampering
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? No, it probably wouldn’t take anyway.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? Marie Claire and the fall Vogue
3. How’s your tennis game? Nonexistent. I tried it once.
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Houndstooth. Gingham is for picnic tableclothes.
5. A hair length that suits you? Below shoulder length somewhere so it starts to curl up from the ends.
6. Something you learned recently? Similar to at least one other – gun laws are much more lax in Delaware than I though. That needs to change.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? Not much, but I do like that new sunscreen formulations are coming out and there are more options for people who break out.
8. Eyeliner today? No makeup today. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and almost never when it gets over 85 F.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week? Catch up on yard work, which is saving the bulbs I want to save before the big overhaul.
1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no? Love the root concealers. One of my staples. However, as far as dye, no temporary. Love permanent as it lasts longer. Temporary is good if you want to check out a color first.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day? Tiger Beat and Seventeen
3. How’s your tennis game? Non-existent
4. Houndstooth or gingham? Houndstooth. I find it classy (just not too much). Maybe a houndstooth pattern with a black turtle neck in the winter. Gingham is cute on little girls or Judy Garland!
5. A hair length that suits you? Shoulder length, not too short or too long.
6. Something you learned recently? How to scan on my Iphone.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about? I have been big on the silicone chest pads.
8. Eyeliner today? None, I am working from home!

1. Temporary hair dyes: yes or no?
No. Other than enhancing my blonde I have never dabbled with color in my hair.
2. Your favorite magazines from back in the day?
Bravo und Girl. They were very popular here in Germany. And then Brigitte and Brigitte Woman, both German magazines.
3. How’s your tennis game?
I have never played tennis in my life.
4. Houndstooth or gingham?
Houndstooth.
5. A hair length that suits you?
Between shoulders and bra strap is what I like most on myself.
6. Something you learned recently?
I am learning French (again, had it in school), so probably some new words there.
7. Something beauty related that you’re excited about?
My LED mask, it is something you can do for yourself without having to actually do something.
8. Eyeliner today?
All day, every day.
9. Something you can do to take care of yourself this week?
Give myself the permission to turn the laptop off even if things are still not yet finished completely instead of working through the night.
