So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of?
Yeah. I used to not be particular about it at all, but after I had Connor, my body changed in so many ways. My skin became more sensitive, and I couldn’t tolerate how certain materials felt. I only like stuff that’s extremely soft now. I also prefer to wear cotton because I like how it breathes. Apparently, I can no longer be challenged by my clothing.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking?
As much as I love musicals, if I sit in a dark room right meow, all I’ll do is fall asleep. I’ll take the hike — ideally one with lots of shade and that’s not too strenuous. LOL!
3. Body splash: love it or leave it?
Even though it’s a little cheesy, I love me some body splash. Reminds me of days spent feeling carefree!
4. How do you release stress?
Exercise really helps. Oh, and checking in with myself and doing deep breathing exercise throughout the day works for me, too.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts?
It seems to be trendy, yeah? If it works for you, great! I’m not really a fan, though. Too messy.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea?
LOL, if I was in high school, I’d say yes. Now, unless you’re a professional stylist, I’d say so!
7. What’s for dinner tonight?
Honestly, I don’t have a lot in me today to devote to cooking. It’s going to be a bagged salad and spaghetti with red sauce kinda night.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
I’m wearing it down today, with big, loose curls (thank you T3 Bodywaver). I’ve had it up all weekend long, and my fun bun needs a break.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Go to bed early and catch up on sleep!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
P.P.S. Happy Monday, friend. New day, new week, new chance to fresh start. Enjoy this beautiful day, OK? 🤗

1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Yes, extremely, to the point where I am not buying much anymore. If I’m going to pay >$100 for a new top, it better be all-natural fibers. And rayon/Modal/Eco-vero/other greenwashing trade names doesn’t count.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? Hiking. Probably not doing any optional large indoor events until I get a fourth booster or infection rates go WAY down.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? Leave it. I’ve eliminated all of my fragrances except for a Boyfriend rollerball.
4. How do you release stress? Zoning out with some TV and knitting and staying away from people.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? Too much of a hassle to get on my scalp and to rinse out – my hair is too dense.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? I don’t think it’s a terrible idea unless you’re using one of those old-school frosting caps.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Probably some Trader Joe’s frozen chicken fried rice with some chopped up Wegmans spicy kimchi.
8. What’s your hairstyle today? Just down. Since I cut my hair into a bob, it’s down most of the time.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week? Change the air filters in both house A/C systems before the ragweed really blooms.
Your dinner sounds delish! YUM!
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of?
Yes. I can’t deal with scratchy. I used to love Lou & Grey because they had the softest everything. They shuttered their stores/website and moved exclusively to Loft and it’s just doesn’t seem the same.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking?
If this is a perfect world without excess heat I’d love a hike today. Preferably one that ends at a cute spot with a picnic (already made and laid out of course).
3. Body splash: love it or leave it?
Leave it now but yeah back in the day for sure. Ahhh the 90’s. I feel like I can smell the freesia now…
4. How do you release stress?
I practice yoga. I also finally cleaned off my porch this summer and potted some plants which so far are making it. It’s so nice to have that little spot to enjoy at the end of the day with an ice cold drink or first thing in the am with some coffee.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts?
I recently used some Sephora points to indulge in the Crown Affair scalp scrub/shampoo and I love it! It is necessary? Probably not. But it’s not harsh, it smells amazing and it leaves my hair so soft. I only use it once every 4 or 5 shampoos so it should also last me a long time.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea?
Not for this girl. I think even most stylists/colorists have someone do theirs!
7. What’s for dinner tonight?
Left over chicken curry and some roasted sweet potato.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
Just down and wavy. With a little dry shampoo for volume.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Talk with my bff before she leaves for overseas for work for several months.
Have a great week!
You have a great week, too, Megan!
P.S. I wish I got to try the pre-Loft version of Lou & Grey. I have one pair of joggers by them (got them at Loft), and I thought they were wonderfully soft and lovely.
I live in the sweatpants in the fall and winter! Still some good stuff from Loft. I think the new styles just don’t speak to me. But hey, money saved!
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Yes. I always have been. I used to joke I’m allergic to polyester. Polyester is sooo bad for the environment. Made from oil. Microscopic bits of it get into the waterways during the laundry cycle and it doesn’t biodegrade. Not to mention how scratchy and unbreathable it is.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? I guess go hiking. But it’s got to be really shady.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? Leave it
4. How do you release stress? A walk. Reading. Working on a jigsaw puzzle. Drawing. Listening to Nibbler purr.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? I have one from Christophe Robin that I use about once a month when my scalp gets really itchy.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? Nope, not for me.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Leftovers and a fridge clear out because it started leaking water yesterday. So far it’s holding the cold temperature, but I definitely need someone to come out and diagnose it.
8. What’s your hairstyle today? Same as always. Wash, comb, air dry.
Good luck with the fridge. Ours has started making weird noises in the middle of the night, and I suspect it may be on its last legs. 🙁
With supply chain issues, if you think your fridge is on it’s last legs, start looking for a new one now. My trainer said it took one of her other clients six months to get their new stove.
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Absolutely, only cotton for me.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? I fractured my back playing PickleBall 2 months ago, so hiking is not on my agenda. So, musical it is.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? I still like it.
4. How do you release stress? Reading, watching TV
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? I like it once in a while.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? NO.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Hamburgers and a bag salad. Easy.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Ok, so I only learned about Pickle Ball recently. I had no idea it was a thing.
Sending you healing vibes for your back. Get well soon!
Thanks for your reply. You remember we moved end of March? and PickleBall is so big in our new community. Not for me any longer though, I can’t take this chance again.
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? I like my jeans to have spandex so they have a little stretch. I’m less picky with my tops.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? Watch a live musical.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? I wore it more when I was younger.
4. How do you release stress? Going for a walk, talking to friends/family, watching a funny video or cute kitten video. I tend to want to isolate, but I’ve learned that this isn’t the best and I feel better with others around me.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? My skin is sensitive, so not so sure….
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? I admire people who can. I had a friend do mine in college and while it wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t the best, lol.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Leftovers from my nephews b-day bbq that was over the weekend. (ie; pork belly, brisket, mac n cheese, etc.)
8. What’s your hairstyle today? I flat ironed it and have it straight.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week? I’m getting my hair (highlights) done over the weekend!
Have fun at your hair appointment, Danielle. Enjoy the “me” time!
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Yes. I don’t like restrictive clothing, I like soft things that are made of natural fibers.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? Hiking. Musicals are great, but so loud.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? Leave it.
4. How do you release stress? I pet my pugs, I drink a Frap, and I hike the nature preserve next to my house.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? They’re too rough for me.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? No. Not even a little bit.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Chicken fettuccine Alfredo.
8. What’s your hairstyle today? Down and curly!
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week? My 26th wedding anniversary is Wednesday, and we just moved to a new state, so finding a nice place for dinner is on the list!
Happy Anniversary, Stephanie!
1, Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Soft is a must. I live in my Danskin pants (not yoga type, more loose fitting) with a Fisher’s Finery V necked T-shirt (they are SO soft, I have one in every color)
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? Hiking!
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? I’m very sensitive to fragrance, the only perfume I can wear is the hypoallergic Ambre Blends amber oil-based fragrances. I’ve never worn a fragrance that had so many people ask me what I’m wearing and it doesn’t irritate my eczema.
4. How do you release stress? Hike or bike trails in the metropark.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? Never tried one.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? No, I still am recovering from the attempt to brighten my natural color in 1984 that ended up with me having Ronald McDonald hair.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Leftover Hawaiian stew (broccoli, carrots, potatoes, lots of mushrooms, and tomatoes with a sweet corn-based stock with coconut aminos, ginger, and garlic) and homemade bread from yesterday.
8. What’s your hairstyle today? Blow-dried straight.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week? Go enjoy all of the flowers in the garden before they are gone for the year.
I need to know more about these Danskin pants! What are they called?
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of?
Yes. It’s got to be soft and have some stretch but be breathable.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking?
If the hike involves walking into the woods, then sitting on a large boulder in the shade, I’m down for it.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it?
Meh. I prefer a spray.
4. How do you release stress?
Watching old movies. Joan Crawford is always good for a laugh.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts?
With this thinning hair? Nope.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea?
I’ve done them myself and they turned out great. Now that the greys are coming in, I will stick to the professionals.
7. What’s for dinner tonight?
Scrambled egg, leftover biscuits, undercooked hash browns.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
Freshly washed and down.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Don’t forget to breathe.
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of?
Yes, I prefer natural fibers. Absolutely no polyester.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking?
I hate musicals and love nature, so I’m taking the hike!
3. Body splash: love it or leave it?
Never used it.
4. How do you release stress?
My favorite is to go to the ocean, or a walk, sometimes a cocktail and a book, show, or movie.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts?
They’re fine, I liked the salt one from Christophe Robin but I don’t really find myself reaching for it.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea?
Probably not, I think it would be difficult to do them subtly.
7. What’s for dinner tonight?
Potato and roasted veg enchiladas served with some lovely Rancho Gordo beans. And strawberry spoon cake from NYT recipe.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
It was down for an online meeting, then put up for the rest of the day at home.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Rest, I’m still recovering from Covid.
Late coming to the party, but these polls are always so much fun.
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of? Yes. Natural fabrics in fine weaves rule my closet.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking? I love seeing stage productions and especially classical concerts, but I always take a brisk walk during intermission because sitting in the dark can be sleep inducing.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it? I haven’t worn a body splash since I was a teen. It was by Jean Naté.
4. How do you release stress? I love to do a light jog.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts? They’re not for me. I wash my hair every other day and I don’t use heavy products so my scalp is clean and healthy. Personally, unless you’re really loading on the products, I think it’s just the marketing gimmick du jour.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea? No! The only ones who can get away with a frankly DYI set of highlights are teenagers.
7. What’s for dinner tonight? Ugh! I don’t even want to think about it. It will be some type of salad. It has been so hot and muggy, cooking is a no-go. I’m a SoCal native so the dry heat doesn’t bother me, but the humidity! The humidity!
8. What’s your hairstyle today? I’ve been wearing my hair in a high pony tail the past few days.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week? Keep the AC running! Lol. I take advantage of the cool morning air and open windows. Because we have a tile roof and good insulation, once the house is cool, I can close it up and it will remain cool until the afternoon—about 4-ish. That’s when the AC goes to work.
1. Are you picky about the fabric your clothes are made out of?
No, not really. I have my favorite materials (I love wearing silk and cashmere), but I basically wear everything as long as it isn’t pure plastic.
2. Would you rather watch a live musical or go hiking?
Go hiking. I sit way too much anyway, and just like you I am very likely to fall asleep if it is dark and I am seated.
3. Body splash: love it or leave it?
Leave it, I just can’t be bothered.
4. How do you release stress?
Excercise really helps, as does sleep. Both of which tend to be the first things I stop prioritizing when it gets stressful, I need to work on that.
5. Scalp scrub: your thoughts?
I don’t feel like I need them and they are really messy.
6. Are doing your own highlights good idea?
No, never.
7. What’s for dinner tonight?
I don’t know yet, I am not the one who does the cooking at home.
8. What’s your hairstyle today?
I have it up in a clip as it is really hot and I need it off my neck.
9. What’s one nice thing you can do for yourself this week?
Take it slow. I was sick last week and need to be gentle on myself while I recover.
