So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Preppy or boho?
A little bit of both? I like a little touch of boho in interior design. For clothes, I feel best when I’m wearing clothes more on the preppy side.
2. Mashed potatoes or apple pie?
GIRL. Why must I choose? LOL! Um… apple pie, I guess? That way I can get vanilla ice cream, too. 😉 I must insist on a pie with a non-bullsh*t crust, however. If the crust is a tragedy, I will have nothing to do with it.
3. Accent nails: yes or no?
Although I loved an accent nail back in the day, right meow I prefer a single solid color. I like looking at my fingers and seeing visual continuity across all my nails.
4. One of your favorite holiday traditions?
Every Thanksgiving my family always has pecan pie. One year at my in-law’s house there was no pecan pie — actually there was NO pie, period — and I felt like I was on another planet. I gotta have pecan pie or I will lose it!
5. Matte nails: yes or no?
Nah. Every matte I’ve worn chips way too easily. I also just prefer seeing shiny nails!
6. Something that puts a pep in your step?
Honestly, a second cup of coffee before noon really helps. I’ll probably grab one after I finish the Monday Poll.
7. Something nice that happened to you recently?
On Saturday afternoon, my neighbor gave me a block of homemade butter made from a cow she knows, LOL! Then, she invited me and Connor over for impromptu tea and toast. It was an unexpected and lovely gesture.
8. A beauty product you’ve been using a lot?
YSL Faux Cils Mascara. I bought it for the first time in years a couple weeks ago and at first was like, “Eh, why did I used to love this so much?” But then I kept wearing it because I was too lazy to return it and I needed a mascara, and now I’m into it again. I know, so fickle. I’ve been really liking how it thickens my lashes and lengthens them without any clumps. It’s really easy to apply, and I like how my lashes look long and luscious.

I feel the same way about pecan pie! One year, even if I reserved a pecan pie weeks before Thanksgiving, they ran out when I came to pick it up and I was so upset! Not the same without it!

1. Preppy or boho? I was a teen during the 1960’s so boho it is.
2. Mashed potatoes or apple pie? Apple pie, but the kind with the strudel type of topping as I really don’t like pie crust. What I like best, though, is the heavenly smell of apples and cinnamon as the pie bakes.

4. One of your favorite holiday traditions? Hmmm . . . We really don’t have any traditions per se. We just take things as they come and enjoy the moment. No stress holidays are the best.

6. Something that puts a pep in your step? A good selection of upbeat music or a shot of Nespresso 😃
7. Something nice that happened to you recently? My son just got married and we had a small family get-together so everyone could meet my awesome daughter-in-law.
8. A beauty product you’ve been using a lot? Crème de la Mer! My skin has been so dry and sensitive just lately. I know it’s a polarizing product, but La Mer works wonders on my skin. I always stock up during the Sephora sale.

1. Preppy or boho? Preppy, actually looking in my closet it looks like the wardrobe of Joe Friday from Dragnet. I need to buy myself some color!
2. Mashed potatoes or apple pie? Tough choice, if it’s for a meal give me the potatoes with lots of butter.

4. One of your favorite holiday traditions? I was adopted by a Scandanavian family (I’m Scottish). I make all my grandma’s favorite cookie recipes and homemade lefse (flatbread made out of mashed potatoes, sugar, and cream then grilled on a lefse griddle).

7. Something nice that happened to you recently? I got a note from a reader of one of my books saying it was “the best book ever” (but it made her cry).

1. Preppy or boho? I really want to love boho, I like the idea of loving boho, but it just doesn’t feel right for me. I’m not super preppy either, but I can lean into a little bit more.
2. Mashed potatoes or apple pie? Ummmm, why is this so hard? I love both so much. I’m gonna choose potatoes, pie can be too sweet sometimes.
3. Accent nails: yes or no? Sure! Not all the time, but occasionally a sparkly nail or two is fun.
4. One of your favorite holiday traditions? My family does snacking in a big way, before the traditional meal. Nobody is ever hungry for the meal, because the snacks are so plentiful and delicious. So. Many. Snacks.
5. Matte nails: yes or no? Yes, not all the time, I prefer shiny nails, but a matte neon is nice in the Summer.
6. Something that puts a pep in your step? Coffee. The answer will always be coffee.
7. Something nice that happened to you recently? I saw one of my daughter’s teacher at the grocery store and he gushed over how good of a job she is doing.
8. A beauty product you’ve been using a lot? Clinique Black Honey Gloss. I’ve used the lipstick forever, but the gloss is fun.

1. Preppy or boho? I definitely lean more preppy when it comes to how I dress – I find it so much easier to mix/match pieces quickly when I’m about 10% awake and trying to get ready in the morning.
2. Mashed potatoes or apple pie? Ohhhhh. This…is hard. Mashed potatoes. Goin’ with the gut on this one. But it’s like an even split.
3. Accent nails: yes or no? Not so much on myself anymore, but I think they’re cute!
4. One of your favorite holiday traditions? Taking a really good nap on Christmas after breakfast.
5. Matte nails: yes or no? No – looks cool but the practicality isn’t there.

7. Something nice that happened to you recently? I ran into my cousin outside of the Sbux in our neighborhood before work the other morning and we had an impromptu coffee together! It was lovely.

Small things like sunshine, a nice word from a coworker or just my cup of Earl Grey. I take anything these days.

A nice elderly man waited fro a few minutes until I had locked up my bike only to hold the door for me because I had smiled at him when I drove by and he wanted to return the favor – in an absolutely non-creepy way.

Black eye liner. I am rarely without.
