So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently?
I bought a few basic cotton tanks and tees for summer from Madewell. Nothing exciting at all, but at least I’ll be able to get dressed easily in the morning when it gets hot next month, LOL!
2. What’s one of your summer traditions?
For the past few years, we’ve gone camping. We don’t do anything fancy or off-the-grid completely; just easy car camping at a family-friendly campground that’s a couple hours away. It’s a lot of fun for us right now… I’m sure in a few years Connor will be rolling her eyes because the last thing she’ll want to do is be out in the woods with her parents!
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen?
I’m pretty consistent these days. I do need to get better about wearing sun protection on my lips though!
4. A scent which reminds you of summer?
Freshly cut watermelon, yum! And sunscreen at the beach, of course.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers?
I’ll have a veggie burger, thanks! With cheese, pickles and ketchup, please, and on a super soft brioche bun.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap?
The couch downstairs can’t be beat, especially if the ceiling fan overhead is going (puts me right to sleep). Make sure to make room for Rosie-Pose, though. She’s a snuggly baby!
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer?
Goodness, yes! You’d think that since we’re relatively close to the SF Bay that it wouldn’t get terribly hot, but temps go into the upper 90s quite often during the thick of summer.
Happy Monday, my friend. It’s Memorial Day here in the United States, so it’s a holiday for most people. I hope that you’re able to find some time to rest and relax today.
Take care of yourself, OK? And if you’re feeling like you need a little extra support today for whatever reason, here’s a big *hug* for ya.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently?
2. What’s one of your summer traditions?
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen?
4. A scent which reminds you of summer?
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers?
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap?
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer?

1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? I hit a lot of online sales for Mother’s Day for skincare and beauty care. Always fun!
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? One of my best friends lives on a big farm about 3 hours from here. We will go up for the 4th of July small town parade, and enjoy some quiet time in the evenings away from the city.
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? I have red hair and am pale as can be. I’ll burn in 5 minutes so yes, I always wear it.
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Anything with citrus. Currently wearing Jo Malone Grapefruit.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers? Hamburgers, I’m a vegetarian though so I make mine a veggie Korean Barbecue Burger, made from scratch. SO good.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? Recliner in the living room. It’s cool, not too bright, and quiet.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer? Chicago is normally in the low 80’s in the summer. We might get a week of 90-degree weather but overall it’s not too bad.
You had me at Korean BBQ. I want to know how you make this veggie K -BBQ burger. Sounds like something I’d really enjoy!
ME TOO!!!!
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? I just bought a cotton quilt and sham set for the upcoming summer. Cotton ones, with partial or full cotton fill, are hard to find and generally expensive.
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? Don’t really have any. I just try to get through the hellish Texas summer (which won’t end until sometime in October) as best I can, watering my plants just about every single day to keep them alive.
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? Not really – the ones I have are so thick and hard to remove that I don’t like wearing them. I do wear a hat almost 100% of the time when I’m outdoors.
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Grilling food.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers? Hamburgers.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? Nowhere. Too much traffic noise and sirens.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer? “Hot” is not a strong enough word to describe what this place is like in the summer. Usually it starts with mid-90s in the first 10 days of May, then gets consistently in the mid-90’s to low 100’s by the 10th day of June (the record set in this area was set in June of 1980). Then it stays hot every day it doesn’t rain (and it doesn’t rain much from July through August most years) until sometime in October. Sometimes we’re lucky and we’ll have a day below 90 in September, but “hot” is the order of the day until October. This place has had temperatures in the 90s in February, and the record for April is 99 degrees!
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? Pillows for the bedrooms—nothing fancy; just good bed pillows for sleeping.
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? Pre-Covid I used to have friends and family over every year for an al fresco dinner party. The theme was always the same—“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”—but the decorations, menu, music (that sort of thing) always changed to keep the idea fresh. There would always be lots of woodland decor, plenty of flowers, fairy lights, and references to Shakespeare. Kinda corny, but fun. After missing a few years due to Covid concerns, I was surprised when friends and family started asking if this year would be a go. Of course! How could I possibly answer otherwise?
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? It’s a constant no matter the weather, what kind of clothing I’m wearing, or whether I’m going out or staying in. It’s habit.
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Night blooming jasmine at night (duh-lol) and privet during the day. We have loads of them on our property so there is always something wonderful to smell.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers? Neither. I’m a vegetarian and don’t eat fake meat. Occasionally I’ll have a veggie burger, but that is very rare.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? Upstairs in my room.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer? Yes, it does. We live in Southern California where we typically have very warm to hot weather. Because we live in a semi-rural area, there isn’t a lot of concrete absorbing heat all day and then giving it off at night. The cities never cool off over-night whereas our area does. It also helps that we get some ocean breeze.
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? I got some golf shoes and polos. This time last year I wouldn’t even have thought of getting those things!
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? Just going to the beach
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? I’ve been religious about it in the last ten years. Unfortunately, some damage had been done since I hardly wore it when I played tennis in my teens and 20s.
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Frangipani and also fresh mangoes
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers? I don’t know why but hotdogs for me in the summer.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? My bed
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer? June and July are usually in the high 70s-low 80s; August is a bit warmer but luckily it doesn’t get too humid.
I gotta say, there are some cute golf outfits. I don’t play, but if I did, I’d want the cute fits, LOL!
You can still wear the cute outfits and pretend you just came from the golf course! No one has to know that you don’t play 😊 One of the most fun parts when I was first learning was buying the outfits and equipment. You know life has changed when your husband gets you a new putter for Valentine’s Day haha
I know several people who started golfing and loved it. I like that it’s outdoors and that it doesn’t seem like you get super sweaty!
I think the coordinated skirts, tops, shoes and accessories are super cute, LOL!
Oh you can definitely get sweaty out there. Depends on your clothing (don’t wear cotton!) and if you’re carrying your bag 18 holes. The LPGA players all look cute out there but I’m sure some of them are sweaty 😂
Oh, wow! See, that’s how much I know about golf.
Now that I think about it, I bet they have to think deeply about their sunscreen choices too!
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? No. But you reminded me my favorite short sleeve tee is from Madewell and I should see if I can get another color besides gray.
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? Don’t really have one anymore. Used to be horse shows with Dear Daughter.
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? Yes. I just wish they had SPF 50, PA ++++ when I was a kid. Instead of people saying I’m not burning hard enough to get a tan. Yes, that was a thing back in the 60’s.
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Melons. Canteloupe, watermelon, etc. Peaches and strawberries, too.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers? Hamburger on a rare occasion.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? The sofa in the family room. I made sure to get one long enough for Dear Husband to stretch out on.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer? Yes. Ugh.
With the holiday I completely forgot today was Monday. Hope you’re having a relaxing Memorial Day.
Which one is your fave short sleeve tee? The sale was extended to today and I’m this close to getting a pair of overalls that I don’t need, ha ha ha!
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently?
Some cute clothes on a great discount at the GAP for my newest baby niece of 9 days old. I’m going to meet her tomorrow. Taking a week trip one province over. I can hardly wait.
2. What’s one of your summer traditions?
Patios with friends, working on the deck if I have to work later evenings and weekends and one hiking weekend trip in July for my Jinny’s bday on July 1st Canada Day!
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen?
Better on my face but still not every day I’m afraid. And I really should put it on my forearms and hands too. I commute so I will regret not wearing it when I see those sun spots one day
4. A scent which reminds you of summer?
Lilacs and any sunscreen smelling perfumes.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers?
Nothing beats a delicious hot dog in a super soft bun. Yummy
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap?
Our L shaped couch and must have a show on in the background.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer?
It didn’t used to but in recent years the month of August can be a stifling 40 degrees Celsius or I think that’s like 100 Fahrenheit and most of us still don’t have A/C. Many do get it then however – lol. The saddest is when fires hit too and windows must be kept closed. But god bless the evacuees at times like that.
Happy Memorial Day Holiday!!!
I think Connor will look back fondly on those camping memories someday. Even if she does end up rolling her eyes at the idea as a teen. I think it’s the simplest most down to earth things we remember about time spent with our parents once they depart.

I hope you have a wonderful time with your niece. Please take a big whiff of her special newborn baby scent for me. I miss that!

Camping in our pop-up with my in laws.

7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer?
Yes! I love in Utah with hot dry desert temps.
You’re welcome re: the reminder for a lip SPF. I’m still on the hunt for one I like. I was using Sun Bum, but my lips don’t really like it now (too drying).
BTW, I’ve been to Utah (many moons ago) and it’s beautiful!
1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? I ordered the light fixture for the new foyer we are putting on our house. We are in the middle of a big home renovation. I’m so excited to see it
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? The last several years we have gone to Cape May, NJ for a few days. We aren’t really beach people & my husband grew up in that area so for him, the summer season always meant lots of work, but it’s nice to get away
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen? On my face yes but need to get better about elsewhere. If I’m at the beach or a pool, I’m very diligent about it
4. A scent which reminds you of summer? Cut grass

6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap? Couch in the family room- and I’ll end up with a cat on me which always makes it better

1. Have you bought anything on sale recently? No, have not found anything on sale these days. Or…very little. If anything I am spending too much
2. What’s one of your summer traditions? It used to be going to the coast line of Delaware. Have done that the last 15 years. Trying somewhere new this year

1. Have you bought anything on sale recently?
No beauty items. But I just some new clothes for the boys from Carter’s.
2. What’s one of your summer traditions?
Just the typical stuff: beach days, going to Cape Cod, grilling shrimp, enjoying anything that tastes like watermelon
3. Are you good about wearing sunscreen?
I have sunscreen in my facial skincare but I am not careful about body sunscreen. I apply it at the beach and not other times. I know, I know…
4. A scent which reminds you of summer?
Beach Walk by Margiela.
5. Hot dogs or hamburgers?
Tough question. I will have to say hamburgers.
6. Where’s the best place in your house to take a nap?
My bed.
7. Does it get hot in your hometown during the summer?
People think Massachusetts is always cold but it can be hot and humid in summer. It can easily (and often) get in the high 90s.
