So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. What’s something you’re looking forward to in October?
Visiting a pumpkin patch with Connor and El Hub. We go to the same one every year, and it’s always so much fun!
And honestly, I’m also looking forward to moving ahead with my life. I’ve been feeling stuck and sad lately, and I’m so tired of being in that space. I’m ready to change the vibe. I know it won’t happen overnight. This month I’m going to just keep treating myself with an abundance of love and allow the care and kindness sent from the universe to enter from all sides.
That’s my plan and I’m sticking to it. 🙂
2. Pick a nail polish color – bright cherry red or dark blood red?
Dark blood red, please, and the darker the better. I’d love a sturdy, shiny topcoat, too.
3. Your favorite snack lately?
Ooh, dried apricots and a handful of pistachios (gotta be pistachios in the shell, though)! I’ve been trying to balance out most meals and snacks with a combination of carbs, fiber and protein and this combo really hits the spot.
4. Something that decorated your childhood bedroom that you loved?
When I was a teenager, I used to have a poster that my granny got me. It was of a Nagel-inspired lady with a single tear rolling down her cheek and the word “memories” at the bottom of the poster. I loved it and thought it was so cool.
5. Updo or a blowout?
Blowout so I don’t have to deal with the headache I always get with an updo.
Happy Monday to you, my friend. Right now I’m enjoying my second cup of coffee and reveling in the simple pleasure of just how darn good it is! Like, do you ever just stop and smell your coffee? Holy crap, it’s amazing, right? Anyway, I’m just trying to stay fully present today, and apparently that involves swooning over the scent of a deliciously milky cup of coffee, ha ha ha.
What have you got going on this week? Whatever you’re up to, I hope love surrounds you from all sides!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. What’s something you’re looking forward to in October?
Family pictures this Sunday, and I’m getting my hair done Saturday. Just a touch up of highlights and a trim, but I’m hoping she can style it in a way that it will still look good on Sunday!
2. Pick a nail polish color – bright cherry red or dark blood red?
Dark blood red is so perfect for fall!
3. Your favorite snack lately?
Cuties! Just had 2.
4. Something that decorated your childhood bedroom that you loved?
I had a wallpaper border in the middle of the wall in my room – thought it was so cool, until I didn’t!
5. Updo or a blowout?
Blowout!
I remember those wallpaper borders. I knew a girl who had Strawberry Shortcake wallpaper (complete with a border!), and I was wildly jealous of her decor, LOL!
Have so much fun doing family pictures on Sunday. 🙂
1. What’s something you’re looking forward to in October? Traveling with Dear Husband.
2. Pick a nail polish color – bright cherry red or dark blood red? Dark blood red please!
3. Your favorite snack lately? Fruit with cottage cheese or a HobNob.
4. Something that decorated your childhood bedroom that you loved? Two things both from my mom. One was a small bottle of L’Air du Temps. I loved the sculptural swirl of the bottle and winged stopper. The other was a hand loom woven, wool blanket my mom made. She loomed all these squares from wool yarn, crocheted them together and then embroidered them. It was weighty and warm.
5. Updo or a blowout? Does a French Chignon count as an updo? When I couldn’t get my hair cut during the lockdowns, my hair grew just long enough for me to do a chignon. I used the u-shaped open hair pins (don’t know what they’re called) to hold it in place and it never felt tight or heavy. Then again, I don’t have thick hair or a lot of it either.
I’m excited for you for your travels this month. Will you be going somewhere where you can buy great sunscreen? LOL
Before the pandemic we used to take a trip every October. Many times to Disneyland, once Portland, once Seattle, NYC often. So it feels good to start getting back into the swing of things.
We’re headed to Seoul this time. We’ll see what sunscreens and skincare I can score. Lol.
I just want to try all the food!
On a side note, Dear Husband has traveled so much for business this year he hit 100K miles at the beginning of September. He’s gone right now and I’m missing him.
My husband does a lot of international travel for work, too. His miles are over 100k and so far we’ve only used them on a family Disney World trip this summer. Seoul will be very exciting! Hope your husband isn’t away for too long.
1. What’s something you’re looking forward to in October? We are meeting up with 2 couples for lunch next Sunday The guys were my husband’s college roommates & the 4 of us have been friends for 30+ years. My husband & I met in college and his roommates met their wives after college. We try to meet up every 3-4 months now that their kids are all out of high school. Blowout
1. What’s something you’re looking forward to in October? Cooler weather with less humidity. Summer is so unbearable here that I just about lose the will to live whenever I have to go outside (from May to mid-October).
2. Pick a nail polish color – bright cherry red or dark blood red? Bright red, like the “I’m Not Really a Waitress” or “Ruby Pumps” shades.
3. Your favorite snack lately? I’ve started making small, flower-shaped waffles again with my special waffle maker. Not really a snack, but I’ve been avoiding the usual potato chips and Cheetos for the last several months.
4. Something that decorated your childhood bedroom that you loved? I made a hooked rug with a horse on it. I still have it. It was my own design, not a kit. Also, I used to have curtains with a monarch butterfly print all over them. What happened to them? I guess my mother gave them away before one of our moves.
5. Updo or a blowout? Blowout. I don’t have the face for a fancy “updo.”
