So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Introvert or extrovert?
I think I’m somewhere in the middle, like an extroverted introvert. I’m pretty outgoing, so most social situations fill my cup, but I definitely need time alone to process and recharge. If I’m around lots of people for a good amount of time without any time to myself, I start to short circuit.
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting?
Delicious if you have the chance to eat some fresh ones from the tree.
3. Last book you finished?
I just finished “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” A friend mentioned that the main character has a daughter named Connor, which is why I wanted to read it. 🙂
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well?
Shaping and plucking my brows, waxing my upper lip, painting my nails, easy hairstyles and simple makeup looks.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at?
Waxing my brows (I tried it once and took half of one off), coloring my hair, cutting my hair, super complicated eyeshadow placement and contouring.
6. What’s the best day of the week?
I’m partial to Thursdays. It feels like the week is almost over and you’re just about to cross the finish line.
Hello and happy, happy Monday, my friend. So funny… We went to the pumpkin patch last Saturday, and all Connor wanted to do was play in the corn pit, so we spent a good chunk of time hanging out in the kernels. Usually the kernels are dusty and kinda gross and leave a fine film on your skin and clothes, but I think the powers-that-be at the pumpkin patch this year ordered some fancy kernels because the corn were relatively clean and fuzz free! Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. My point is that I’ve been doing laundry all morning, and kernels keep dropping out of everyone’s clothes! I just found a few hiding in the folded hem of a pant leg, ha ha ha!

Anywho, I hope so many good things happen for you this week. Take care of yourself and please remember that you’re a good person. I think you’re beautiful both inside and out.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.
1. Introvert or extrovert?
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting?
3. Last book you finished?
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well?
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at?
6. What’s the best day of the week?

1. Introvert or extrovert? It depends on the circumstances. I think most of us are actually a combination of traits that can’t always be pigeonholed. For example, I’m not a shay person at all, but I’m a very private person so what does that make me?
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? Delicious! My husband and I love fresh figs, dried figs, fig preserves, figs!
3. Last book you finished? J.D. Robb’s “Payback in Death”. I’ve read the entire series.
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well? After 65 years of wearing makeup, I can pretty much do it all without difficulty.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at? Manicures have become a problem as I have arthritis and recently developed trigger finger in my right hand.
6. What’s the best day of the week? I’m retired so they’re all basically the same. I will say, though, that any weekend that my wonderful sons and daughter-in-laws can visit, those are the best days.
Hi Eileen,
What is your favorite way to eat figs? I’m currently looking up recipes.
Recipes for figs abound online from simple to complex. It’s just a matter of finding ones that suit your taste. One of our favorite ways to use them is simplicity itself. We like a mixed greens salad with sliced pear and fig and sprinkled with lightly toasted pecans. I toss it very lightly with Lucini Savory Fig Artisan Vinegar which is a delicious balsamic condiment—no need for any oil or other flavorings. We also like Dalmatia fig jam spread on just about anything toasted. It’s a breakfast staple in our home. For something fancier, you can do the traditional holiday puff pastry wrapped Brie but substitute fig conserve or jam for the usual cranberry. As I said, there are countless wonderful recipes online.
When purchasing a prepared product like fig balsamic or fig jam, don’t skimp. Go for quality. The cheaper brands tend to be overly sweet and lacking in fresh fig flavor.
I love the idea of a pear and fig salad with toasted pecans. I’m going to try it! Thanks Eileen.
I forgot to say that figs are very fragile so I don’t actually toss them with the dressing. I gently incorporate the slices into the salad afterwards. Besides staying in tact, you get more true fig flavor that way.
1. Introvert or extrovert? Introvert
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? Most delicious!
3. Last book you finished? The Poet by Michael Connelly
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well? Apply copious amounts of sunscreen quickly and evenly.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at? Applying blush without it looking patchy. Applying eye liner evenly. Applying mascara without it getting all over my upper lids and ruining my shadow.
6. What’s the best day of the week? Saturday.
Hey friend! When do you leave for your trip?
I got pretty sick, so we cancelled it. Dear Husband needed to leave our vacation midweek to fly off for work in Japan anyway.
My favorite way to eat figs is sliced in half with blue or goat cheese stuffed in the middle. If you’re feeling fancy a drizzle of honey. You can also stuff them with blue cheese like that then wrap them in a slice of bacon and broil them until the bacon is done, flipping them over midway.
How are you feeling? I hope you get better soon.
Thank you for the fig inspiration! I’ve just been eating them plain. They’re so good when you get them from a local tree!
1. Introvert or extrovert?
Both but lean toward introverted.
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting?
I have had fresh figs straight from the tree when I lived in California, and they are delicious! Also love a good fig spread!
3. Last book you finished?
I can’t remember but it was when I was pregnant! I should start reading again before bed instead of scrolling…
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well?
Waxing my lip and doing my nails and toes.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at?
Complicated eye looks.
6. What’s the best day of the week?
Saturday! The weekend is still fresh!
Hi Rachel,
If you have any yummy fig recipes, please let me know.
Hope your week is off to a great start!
1. Introvert or extrovert? Introvert. And marrying a fellow introvert definitely made my life so much easier!
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? Figs are my favorite!
3. Last book you finished? Holly by Stephen King
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well? Keeping my skin hydrated
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at? Eye makeup
6. What’s the best day of the week? Saturday. We get to do outdoor activities as a family.
1. Introvert or extrovert? Introvert, but I’m not sure I was “born to be one.” I think if you go through a lot of stress caused by others as a child, you can become one just as a means of self-defense.
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? I never tasted any until this year, when the fig tree in the yard FINALLY produced a few tiny fruits. They’re ok.
3. Last book you finished? Not sure. I don’t make the time for that because I still work, and until my mother died just recently, I also spent a good deal of every day taking care of her. Maybe next year, when the many, many problems I have to deal with right now are taken care of, I’ll have time to read a book cover-to-cover.
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well? Eyeshadow, eyebrows, applying foundation, nail polish application (at least with my dominant hand).
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at? Liquid eyeliner (or eyeliner in general). I still have trouble doing mascara because my eyelids always seem to get in the way. Nail polish with the non-dominant hand.
6. What’s the best day of the week? Probably Saturday, the only day I can come close to completely relaxing.
1. Introvert or extrovert? I’m a “gregarious loner”. Around other people I’m animated and engaged but prefer my own company or that of my family to public outings or crowds.
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? Does a Fig Newton count?
3. Last book you finished? Virgil Wander by Leif Enger.
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well? Blowing dry my wavy hair is top of that list.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at? Eyebrows, any sort of liquid liner.
6. What’s the best day of the week? Friday, not because of work ending (normally), but dinner is homemade pizza (I make the crusts ahead and freeze) and there’s time to just enjoy some quiet before all the chores and errands of the weekend.
1. Introvert or extrovert?
More of an introvert but I do enjoy socializing. I just prefer to do so in small groups. I would never be the gal who grabs the karaoke mike at the work party.
2. Figs – delicious or disgusting? Taste is delicious but texture is disgusting.
3. Last book you finished?
Something before my first child was born in 2012.
4. Beauty-related things that you can do pretty well?
Apply lipstick.
5. Beauty-related things that you aren’t so great at?
Winged eye liner.
6. What’s the best day of the week?
Saturday because it’s a full day to be fully yourself.
Love the pic of you gals at the pumpkin patch! Keep enjoying every moment together and making beautiful memories! 🙂
