So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
While I like NARS Orgasm blush, I think there are other shades in their lineup are equally as flattering but easier to wear, like Lovejoy or Deep Throat.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
I like MAC for certain hero shades that I hold near and dear to my heart. The chubby NARS lip pencils because they’re so easy to use. Chanel, of course, for their fancy lady-ness. 😀
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
Ugh, washing it, for sure. It’s so tedious.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
The one time I tried to wax my brows, I ended up accidentally ripping half of one off. WHOOPS! I’ve also poked my eye out with a mascara brush a couple times.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
I have a four day weekend coming up starting on Friday, woo hoo!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?

1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
Lip oils and lip glosses – I don’t feel like you need to spend luxury prices, like $20-$30 for a good one of these – the drugstore ones work great.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
MAC!
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
I would say blowdrying it – seems like it takes forever, usually I will just dry the pieces around my face so they don’t air dry funky.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
All I can think of right now is burning myself with a flat iron or curling iron, and losing lashes in my lash curler.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
The girls’ 2nd birthday party on Saturday! We are having it at an indoor playground in town and some cousins and aunts and uncles are coming. They are not really at the stage where they have “friends” yet but I think they are going to have a blast with the cupcakes, balloons, pizza and soda!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? Tarte shape tape concealer, unless you are into full glam makeup find it so hard to use it
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? Charlotte Tilbury
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? Taming the frizz
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? That one time I burnt my forehead with curling iron
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? We are going to San Miguelle De Allende for the long weekend.I still have not finished planning though, but looking forward to it.
Agreed, Roma. That concealer is hard to wear unless you go full coverage.
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
The beauty blender. I felt like it got gross really quickly and needed to be washed after every use which got old fast.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
The original Bite Beauty (RIP). Since they are gone I reach for Ilia color block and their tinted balms the most.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
Frizz. I’m at the mercy of the humidity levels!
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
I’m sure I’ve written about this before but in high school I read a great tip in a magazine about blasting your eyelash curler with a hairdryer prior to use. Well I was a bit over zealous with the heating. This was user error but I haven’t gone near an eyelash curler since!
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
Hopefully the ring I bought myself for a little Valentine’s Day treat comes!
Bite Beauty had some good stuff in their line. I miss them!
Ooh, I love that you bought yourself a ring for Valentine’s Day. GOALS.
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? Primer
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? MAC is my favorite lipstick brand. I have so many that I have loved over the years….BUT NARS Dolce Vita Pencil is a must have.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? Definitely frizz. I have wavy hair that gets crazy in certain weather.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? I have poked myself in the eye with mascara many times. In high school, my mother burned me with a curling iron right across my forehead😖.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? Friday…I get to work from home😊
Yes, Dolce Vita is a must!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
Maybelline Great Lash mascara. After numerous purchases, I still cannot understood the appeal.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
MAC and Colourpop
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
Well, I wear wigs. The most challenging thing about those is making sure the hairline looks natural.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
Back in the day, I would constantly burn myself with my curling iron.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
A package from Lucky Scent. I don’t need any more perfume but…
Yeah, I feel you about Great Lash. It’s more like OK Lash, ha ha ha!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? nars sheer glow, maybe i am a hater because i cant find the proper shade.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? MAC matte lipsticks and colourpop
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? that it has a mind of its own .
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? i once clipped my eyelid , no blood though ,with a eyelash curler. talk about a pinch. I am have been burned by a flatiron on my ear.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? going to dinner with my sister on valentine’s day
Aww, how sweet that you get to see your sis. Enjoy your dinner with her!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? Lash Primer – a good mascara shouldn’t require one and who needs another step in the morning?
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? MAC
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? It’s very wavy but baby fine and if I let it air dry it looks like I slept on it wrong. Best product for defining the waves and added fullness without it being “crunchy” is Captain Blankenship Salt Spray. LOVE that stuff. I get compliments on my hair whenever I use it.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? Those big steam rollers to achieve Farrah Fawcett hair. Burned my fingers and neck more than once on those.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? Tacos at the local mom and pop Mexican place (The do a wonderful veggie one with cheese stuffed peppers, fresh cilantro and onion).
Those veggie tacos sound delicious!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
Contour products (I hate the massive contour some people do and it’s so obviously contoured and way too dark and definitely unrealistic….blah)
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
Vaseline….. just kidding, because my lips are so dry. But when I do use something I like Honest Beauty tinted lip balms and Sephora has a line of lipsticks in card board tubes (that are really cute) the colors and formulas are nice.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
A bit of curl, bit of wave but not consistent all over. I love my hair though otherwise. It’s enough wave that I can air dry it.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
Tried waxing my leg and arm hair, ouch. Never again, plus it doesn’t get all the hair anyway. Then you have to let it grow out long enough to wax it again. A razor is just so much easier.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
Mini vacation with family members for the long weekend!!!!! Wo-hoo
Have so much fun on your mini vacation! Where are you going?
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
Vitamin C in skincare. I just cannot buy into the need for that. And it makes me break out horribly.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
NARS lip pencils, for sure, although they appear to be phasing out the OG ones in favor of the new Power Matte, which I find very drying. I also love Charlotte Tilbury; my favorite is Matte Revolution in First Dance.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
Right before my 48th birthday last month, it suddenly went from a lifetime of barely wavy to full-on curly. What in the actual world?!?! So I’m learning how to take care of and fix my hair all over again.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
Just mascara in the eye a couple of times.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
No doctors appointments for anyone!
I think I need more Charlotte Tilbury in my life, Suzanne! Do you find her Matte Revolution lipstick drying?
No, not at all. It’s very creamy, but stays put and is long lasting. I’m excited to try the Hollywood Icon shades that just came out.
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? I’d tend to agree with the poster who mentioned the Beauty Blender. I really don’t see that it works any better than most sponges.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? Probably Revlon, but I haven’t used some of the other brands enough to say if they’re better. What I liked about Revlon was the fact that they don’t heavily perfume their lipsticks (like L’Oreal does), and they have a huge number of shades.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? It’s getting thinner every day, both in diameter and in number. I’m going to try the Nioxin system to see if it helps at all. It could be that age, combined with surviving chemo, has made it permanently thin.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? In trying to use mascara for the first time, I blinked and felt like I gouged my eye with the entire side of the brush.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? I’ll have next Monday off, and the weather might be decent. I’d like to visit the little ponds near me to take some more pictures of the migratory birds before they leave in March.
Hope you get the chance to take photos of the birds. 🙂 Enjoy your day off on Monday!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped?
The Urban Decay Quickie concealer. On me, it looked dry under my eyes and emphasized my lines.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks?
I enjoy Mac lipsticks and on the drugstore side, I like the Elf lipsticks.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair?
I have somewhat frizzy flyaway hair and I can’t always use styling products because my scalp is sensitive.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury?
Burning myself on the curling iron.
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week?
The three-day weekend!
1. A beauty product that’s over hyped? How much time do you have? Primers, beauty blender sponges, concealers, foundations that promise not to crease, break up or settle into lines and pores. Matte lipsticks that aren’t drying.
2. Who makes your favorite lipsticks? NARS Dolce Vita can’t count how many tubes I’ve used up. Tom Ford Indian Rose and Casablanca also repurchased a ton. I’d say MAC but most of the colors I’ve worn have been discontinued or reformulated so the color is different. Used to love Chanel but lately the fragrance has been bothering me.
3. What’s the most challenging thing about your hair? It’s thinning to the point you can see my scalp.
4. Have you ever had a beauty-related injury? Other than poking my eye when I try to apply mascara?
5. Something you’re looking forward to this week? Not this week, but next week we’re going to go visit Dear Daughter.
