So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Converse or cowboy boots?
Converse, but they’ve gotta be platform Converse!
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school?
I don’t know why, but pudding was all over the place when I was in elementary school. I remember eating a lot of pudding made from a box, pre-made pudding in plastic cups (tapioca was my favorite) and Jell-O pudding pops all the time. There was so much damn pudding, LOL! I barely eat it as an adult, but as a child, I remember it being a big thing.
3. Barrettes – yes or no?
I like the idea of them in theory, so yes. In practice, though, I rarely wear them. Maybe I need more barrettes in my life!
4. Something that surprised you about getting older?
That my hands and my forearms would sometimes hurt after doing physical work. It was kind of shocking! I’ve always had strong hands (I think playing piano seriously from when I was four until 17 years old helped develop a lot of finger dexterity and strength), but now, I have to purposefully do things for recovery, like stretching, otherwise they’re sore.
5. A scent that make you happy?
Lilacs. Violet notes in perfumes. A pie baking in the oven. The air in my lungs on a sunny day after it’s been raining for a long time. Sunscreen at the beach. The top of a baby’s head.

5. A scent that makes you happy?

1. Converse. Full stop.
2. Smarties.
3. Absolutely yes. Half the time my hair is in some kind of updo with a barrette. These days I’m hooked on Machete. $$$
4. My feet get angry if I wear heels, and they stay angry for the next couple of days. Ugh.
5. Green tea. Cleansing, relaxing, and good memories of family around a big dim sum table.
Of course I had to look up Machete. Thank you for introducing me to this brand! They have lots of cute things.
1. Converse or cowboy boots? Never worn cowboy boots. Converse but only for short periods of time
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school? Twinkies. One of my sisters and I would divvy up a box from Price Club and stash them in our secret hiding places.
3. Barrettes – yes or no? These days no.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older? Oh I can definitely relate to the aches and pains but deep inside I surprisingly still feel “youthful” for some reason
5. A scent that makes you happy? The smell of the ocean, coffee in the morning, aquatic floral scents, fresh fruits
I haven’t had a Twinkie in years! I remember loving them as a kid, too.
1. Converse or cowboy boots?
Converse, for sure! I love that they make all colors, prints, etc. I have a pair with skulls on them. Very “goth lite”. Truly classic!
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school?
Bubblicious bubble gum. My friends and I used to walk down to the corner store and collect every flavor.
3. Barrettes – yes or no?
Why not? Especially if they are extra glam.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older?
My flat abs went to hell. (insert boo-hoo)
5. A scent that makes you happy?
Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. It’s crisp, fresh and makes me think of summertime by the water.
I looove that scent, Pamela! I wore it on my wedding day. 🙂
1. Converse or cowboy boots?
I like both, but find neither comfortable anymore.
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school?
Little Debbie cakes, especially Oatmeal Cream Pies (my Pop-Pop’s favorite) and Cosmic Brownies.
3. Barrettes – yes or no?
Yes! A necessity now that I’ve cut my hair again.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older?
Something hurts all the dadgum time.
5. A scent that makes you happy?
The original BumBum cream. (Cheirosa ’62) It smells like the beach on a June night, laughing at old jokes with old friends, and my girls.
Well now you’ve gotta tell us where to buy all the cute barrettes! 😀
Literally just Target and Walmart, lol. Nothing fancy at all. Although sometimes I ‘splurge’ on glam barrettes or mini clips from TJ Maxx or Marshalls.
I like the Target price point! 🙂
1. Converse or cowboy boots? Neither are comfortable. Converse are less expensive than quality cowboy boots.
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school? My mom’s apple walnut cake. I remember liking Twinkies and Hoho’s? (cream filled chocolate covered hockey puck shaped chocolate cakes)
3. Barrettes – yes or no? No. They don’t stay in my fine hair.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older? That even if I exercise all the time my body still aches every darn day.
5. A scent that makes you happy? Coffee, tea, brownies baking. Dear Daughter’s perfumes. The hollow between my husband’s neck and shoulder. Sorry, not sorry. Lilacs, peonies and roses.
I love the scent of roses, too — especially tea roses. 🙂 If I had the energy and room I’d have a rose garden!
1. Converse or cowboy boots? Converse – I had really wide feet – seriously, duck feet. There’s not a cowboy boot on the planet that I can fit into.
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school? Ice Cream Sandwiches. We got enough money to buy milk at school to go with our lunch and sometimes Mom would put in an extra dime so we could get an ice cream.
3. Barrettes – yes or no? No.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older? I love going out without any makeup on, just sunscreen, and literally NOT CARING.
5. A scent that makes you happy? Pakalana from Hawaii.
1. Converse or cowboy boots? Probably the boots, if I could find some that fit well.
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school? Not elementary, but in 6th and 7th grade they had a homemade dessert you could buy in the cafeteria called peanut butter crunch – it was made with corn flakes, I think. That was really good, and I always wanted the recipe for that, but never got it. In elementary school, Hostess desserts were a big thing, like chocolate cupcakes and Twinkies. Also Ding Dongs, which I always likened to hockey pucks. They were never all that good, but some of my family members really liked them.
3. Barrettes – yes or no? Yes.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older? Weird muscle pains that sometimes seem to come out of nowhere. On the whole, though, I think I’ve had less pain after turning 40 than most people complain about.
5. A scent that makes you happy? Lilacs, hyacinths, high-quality perfume (there’s a lot of bad ones out there), the smell of just about any dessert baking in the oven.
Testing – looks like it is no longer allowing me to post comments on this blog
Weird. Looks like it only allows it with one of my email addresses and not others. OK.
1. Converse or cowboy boots? Converse. If I’m wearing cowboy boots, you can assume I’m trying to signal that I’ve been kidnapped.
2. A sweet treat that reminds you of elementary school? Icees or the yogurt pops you used to get from the Schwann’s man in the 80s. Both were almost always in our sitter’s freezer.
3. Barrettes – yes or no? Now that there is a selection of volume barrettes, yes. When I was a kid, the standard barrettes were a no-go unless I wanted it to fly off and hit another kid in the face.
4. Something that surprised you about getting older? How one doctor’s appointment magically turns into two or three.
5. A scent that makes you happy? Apple pie, fresh baked bread, lilacs. My parents’ front yard has a stand of lilac bushes and that was the sign that it was finally spring.
