So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup?
My coworker last week. I was wearing a little more coverage than usual, so I think the overall look was more polished than the bare bones FOTDs I’ve been wearing for months now. Amazing what a difference a little bit of concealer makes!
2. Last dream you can remember?
Marnie and I were like the Scooby Doo detectives in our neighborhood, ha ha ha! We were working a case to unveil who had stolen all the tuna sandwiches in our circle.
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____.
The Bay Area is experiencing a heat wave, ugh! It’s supposed to hit 94. I’m so over it.
4. Your cookie of choice?
Lately I’ve been obsessed with snickerdoodles.
5. How do you feel today?
Pretty good! I’m mostly happy to be relatively pain free; I fell down a couple weeks ago and hurt my neck and back, and it’s only now that I’m finally starting to feel like myself again. It should also be finally slowing down at work for a bit (it’s been a crazy couple of months), so I’m hoping to not be so exhausted at the end of the day and have more energy for my non-work life.

1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup? My favorite Chanel SA approached, lowered her voice to almost a whisper, and said “I know that’s not Chanel. What are you wearing on your eyes? It’s stunning!” I was wearing Clé de Peau’s new holiday quad.
2. Last dream you can remember? For me, remembering my dreams is a regular occurrence. The memories can stay with me for a few hours or much longer. Last night’s dream was quite unsettling so I’m not going to recount it.
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____ Yesterday was 88 and today is supposed to hit 92.
4. Your cookie of choice? I’m happy with a classic—chocolate chip.
5. How do you feel today? Great. I’m looking forward to the day.
1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup? A girlfriend who also has dark red hair complimented me on my shadow – it’s the Storm Chaser palette from Jane Iredale, flattering on a redhead with extremely pale blue undertone skin (I don’t wear warm shades well, despite the natural hair color)
2. Last dream you can remember? I had flown into Oklahoma City on business, but when I got off the terminal bus to the rental cars I was in downtown Seattle. Obviously going to be late for THAT meeting.
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____. 65 in Chicag0.
4. Your cookie of choice? Toll House.
5. How do you feel today? Really good – I slept a solid 9 hours after a very busy weekend doing a lot of yard work at home plus weeding our elderly neighbors garden while he was at the hospital recovering from an infection.

I wear makeup so infrequently these days, I can’t even remember!
2. Last dream you can remember?
It’s not very clear, but I had a dream about going to my grandparents’ house. They both died when I was in my teens and I haven’t been to that house since then.

Surprisingly, 86 with relatively low humidity.
4. Your cookie of choice?
Chocolate chip with bits of Heath bar from the Publix bakery. (A grocery store chain in the South.)
5. How do you feel today?
Irritable. Many months of not sleeping well are catching up.
OK, this is a weird coincidence, but I fell a couple of weeks ago and hurt my neck and back, too. I also hit my head on my desk and had what the doctor called a “light concussion”. Are we now in our Little Old Lady Era?😄

I can’t remember, so it must have been a long time ago.
2. Last dream you can remember?
I can’t remember this one either. I don’t dream very much, but when I do they’re stressful dreams and I forget them right away.

76/59. Will be about the same all week. I can handle this weather! It’s kind of perfect.
4. Your cookie of choice? Madeleines, tuiles, or pignoli cookies.
5. How do you feel today? Crabby like a crab. I need a good night’s sleep!
1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup? I’ve never been complimented on it, but I don’t wear it that often. It was only in recent years that I could even get a decent foundation that matched my skin tone. I’m also pretty minimalistic with my makeup.
2. Last dream you can remember? I usually only remember fragments of a dream. A few years ago I had a dream that was horrific, and I woke up very disturbed by it. I couldn’t tell you for sure what it was about – I think it was the fear of what happens after death. Interestingly, a comic I follow, “Phoebe and Her Unicorn,” had her girl character go through exactly the same thing (the cartoon was probably drawn on the day of or shortly before I had the horrific dream) published on the very day after I had that nightmare. I used to have repetitive dreams. One involved someone standing outside my bedroom window and verbally harassing me. For a long time I thought that person was someone I went to school with. Eventually it occurred to me that it was MY PARENTS who were harassing me through the window. That realization stopped that repetitive dream (they usually don’t stop until you can figure them out).
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____. I think it was 88 today. Not bad at all by TX standards on 10/7. Usually it’s more like 94. We need to keep the north wind coming. South winds bring the heat and humidity of the Gulf to our area, and I hate humidity. South winds, are, of course, the most common around here.
4. Your cookie of choice? Chocolate chip.
5. How do you feel today? So-so. Still concerned that I might be experiencing a recurrence of cancer. It probably has been about 10 years since I’ve really felt good.
1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup?
A woman at Walgreens complimented my lipstick. That was probably before the pandemic.
Funny story. My boyfriend at the time started staring intently at my eyes. I thought maybe an insect had landed on my glasses and started to panic. Nope. “Is that a smoky eye?” he asked, fascinated. Clearly this guy never noticed my eye makeup behind the glasses unless I really troweled it on!
2. Last dream you can remember?
I dreamt that my brother (very uncharacteristically) had a big indoor /outdoor party with a wide variety of guests. After a while several people inside the house were stung by bees. I realized that one of the rooms was swarming with bees, ushered the guests out of there, shut the door and then kept wandering around the party in search of my brother so he could call an exterminator. Never did find him. Bzzzz.
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____.
79 degrees, but it feels like 81 due to humidity. It’s still shorts weather!
4. Your cookie of choice?
Chocolate chip, warm and melty.
5. How do you feel today?
Slightly harried. It’s been one of those busy days where things don’t easily fall into place.
1. Last person who complimented you on your makeup? Dear Husband. I threw on some tone-up sunscreen, mascara, blush and a tinted lip balm last Saturday because I was having my hair cut and wanted to look a bit better.
2. Last dream you can remember? The last three or four. I’ve been having very vivid dreams lately about Dear Daughter, my college roommate, Dear Husband and my parents who have been gone for over 20 years now.
3. Today the temperature in my neighborhood is/was ____. Last weekend through Monday it was over 100F/40C. I’m so glad these heat wave has broken. I want autumn weather so badly.
4. Your cookie of choice? Almond spice cookies
5. How do you feel today? Ugh. Plantar fasciitis, shin splits and Wed I did something to my back doing my deadlift warm-up in the gym. I didn’t even have the bar loaded. Sigh. I hate getting old.
