So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases?
I usually prefer products in the permanent collections because in my experience holiday makeup performs differently for whatever reason. I do love a holiday fragrance set, though!
2. Are BB creams worth your time?
My answer was no back in the day, but now that I’m into minimal base, I’m thinking it could be good if I find one that agrees with my skin. Hmm, maybe that will be my next makeup project – finding “the one.” I stumbled onto this one by Dr. Jart and it looks pretty good.
3. Your favorite video game?
It’s all about old school Tetris on a Gameboy, baby!
4.Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person?
I wish someone would’ve found a way to convey to me without sounding judgemental or preachy that worrying about boys is a waste of time and that throwing yourself fully into your studies with an exciting end goal in mind (like studying abroad), is the key.
5. Something you hope to accomplish this week?
Make it through the week with a growth mindset. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

3. Your favorite video game?
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person?
5. Something you accomplished this week?

1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases?
I’m going to get a couple So de Janeiro sets for my girls. It’s their favorite scent and sending them each a set from the Sephora sale has become a yearly tradition.
2. Are BB creams worth your time?
I have to be so careful of what I put on my skin that I haven’t explored the BB or CC cream world.
3. Your favorite video game?
Does solitaire on the computer count, lol?
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person?
I wish my family had just told me that my father was a selfish man who could never love anyone but himself, rather than trying to shield me. I wasted too much time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong in that relationship and it affects my self-esteem to this day.
5. Something you hope to accomplish this week?
We want to do a lot of down-sizing, possibly to move to a smaller house, so I would like to get started on that project this week.
I really relate to what you said in your answer to No. 4. My situation was the same, and my mother played the enabler role. I realized he had a problem when I was very young, but it still got to me every time he tried to ruin my self-esteem.
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases? I just ordered the Saint Jane holiday fragrance and lip set for myself.
2. Are BB creams worth your time? Since I already wear moisturizer, I don’t really need that, and for light coverage I prefer a very fluid foundation.
3. Your favorite video game? I’m dating myself here. Asteroids.
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person? People worth knowing won’t care where you live, what you wear, or what you drive.
5. Something you accomplished this week? Finally cleaned 80 year old range/oven, inside and out.
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases? I love makeup but found it less exciting the older I get. I like having singles instead of multiples, except for blush and lipstick, and I’d rather find one or three things I love of those multiples than having 25. Because I’m old. What can I say? lol
2. Are BB creams worth your time? Since I wear tinted moisturizer and was instructed to wear foundation with iron oxide, I would say no and tell myself to see #1 above.
3. Your favorite video game? None. I prefer to read (not cerebral, just don’t get video games and don’t find them relaxing).
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person? Love yourself; you don’t have to please everyone; even if you’re afraid, do it — you usually regret more the things you didn’t do; always pick the nice guy, not the bad boy. Grown up bad boys are just losers.
5. Something you accomplished this week? I went to an event and the introverted me didn’t crawl into a hole. Success!
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases? Not really, but I haven’t looked at much so far.
2. Are BB creams worth your time? If you can define it as a tinted moisturizer with SPF, yes. If you’re talking about foundations with miniscule amounts of “beneficial ingredients,” I’d say probably no.
3. Your favorite video game? Probably the original Animal Crossing. Though I also really enjoyed the dog simulation game on Nintendo DS.
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person? That I should have moved heaven and earth to get to a decent college, or alternatively, gone into the military. I did go to college, but a sub-standard local one. I would have been SO MUCH BETTER OFF if I had gotten away from my parents. They weren’t horrible, exactly, but they were narcissistic and critical, with a very controlling attitude about me (for no good reason, because I was not the type to get into any kind of trouble).
5. Something you hope to accomplish this week? I’ve got so many things I need to do. I really need to get a new dryer, for one. It’s awful being the only survivor in a family who has to deal with the estate, too. There are others still alive but they don’t have to deal with the estate matters.
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases?
I swatched the r.e.m. beauty x Wicked Ozdust eyeshadow palette at Ulta today but couldn’t quite pull the trigger on it.
2. Are BB creams worth your time?
Sure, why not.
3. Your favorite video game?
I’m old enough to remember the first edition of Pong. That said, I actually did enjoy Tetris.
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person?
Don’t stick too long with a lost cause. If someone has decided that they don’t like you, don’t waste too much time trying to prove them wrong. Just move on, and find your people. They’re out there.
5. Something you accomplished this week?
My brother and I got my elderly Dad out twice this weekend to see musical performances. Dad enjoyed them and we all got home in one piece with no mishaps, so it’s a win.
1. Are you contemplating any limited edition holiday makeup releases? I love looking at them and sometimes I will cave in and buy a lipstick. I usually avoid limited edition (what if I love it and I can’t buy another🤪).
2. Are BB creams worth your time? I haven’t tried very many…so I can’t judge.
3. Your favorite video game? Mario or Donkey Kong….loved all of them!
4. Advice you wish you would’ve received as a young person? I wish I would have learned not to care what other people think….I still struggle with this. Also to take better care of myself (mind & body).
5. Something you accomplished this week? I finished an annual report that I hate at work.
Forgive me because I’m scrolling from new to old but I just must pause here for a moment. You know I love Tarte Amazonian Clay BB. You might like it. Also, you rec’d Elta MD to me and I love their tinted sunscreen.
So happy you had a great day with Jen and Cindy. Old friends soothe the soul!
I’m very bummed that I think YSL has disco’d faux cils. Any scoop? So hard to find.
And, OMG, you have a pup. She’s beautiful and, guess which other of your virtual cat lady friends also got a pup in April? Spoiler: has two thumbs and is commenting right now. Girl, when 2 hard core cat ladies add a pup to their lives, it should give the world hope that any good thing could happen!!
