So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1.Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good?
I helped Connor start a weekly chart to track her chores around the house, and we’ve been refining it over a few weeks to see what works and what doesn’t work. It took a while to figure it out, to be honest. I’m feeling good about it, and I think she is too; I’m hoping it sets her up with good habits for the future.
2. Last beauty product you bought?
I grabbed a cream shadow from Charlotte Tilbury, the Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Shadow in Oyster Pearl, a shimmery bronze-gold, from the Sephora fall sale.
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue?
Purple, please!
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no?
Yes, if I’m in Hawaii. 🙂 If I’m anywhere else, I need to be wearing comfortable and waterproof boots that completely shield my socks from getting wet. Otherwise, HARD NO.
5. How has your fall been so far?
Honestly, so, so busy. I’ve been terribly overwhelmed and it’s been hard to focus on anything, really. But every single day I tell myself to keep trying and not give up – especially on the projects that I do just for me, like MBB. I try to give myself lots of grace. And I remind myself that even a little bit of progress still moves me forward.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.

3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue?
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no?
5. How has your fall been so far?

1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good? I rescreened the screens on our sliding doors. They were a mess from when my cats were kittens. They loved climbing them. And did I mention there were 9 doors?
2. Last beauty product you bought? No Makeup Makeup foundation.
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue? Green
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no? Yes. There is a Norwegian (?) saying ‘there is no bad weather, only bad clothing’. However I mostly follow this theory when on vacation
5. How has your fall been so far? Busy! We have season tickets to our NHL team plus other stuff planned so it gets crazy this time of year
I love that saying! I think it’s the universe telling me that I need to buy some cute rain boots. 🙂
1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good? Finally got our rescue puppy leash trained so I can have a dog walker take her for extra walks when I’m teleworking (we do have a large fenced yard for daytime breaks/play).
2. Last beauty product you bought? Ilia multi stick in Cosmic Dancer (a sheer rose- gold)
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue? Purple – I have green eyes to that always makes them “pop”.
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no? I grew up on the coast in Washington – rain is great!
5. How has your fall been so far? It went by way too quickly!
Oh I’m so happy to hear about your puppy! What’s her name?
1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good?
Got rid of much of my wardrobe and makeup and passed it onto people who would enjoy them.
2. Last beauty product you bought?
Dior foundation stick, Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin mask and acne mask from the Sephora sale.
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue?
Green
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no?
Nope. I’m afraid I’ll melt.
5. How has your fall been so far?
Hectic. Some days I’m fighting to find peace.
Congrats on purging your wardrobe and makeup, Cherie. You’re inspiring me to do the same. P.S. Do you have any tips on how to do this quickly? I always get derailed so easily.
You gotta attack it in phases. I found the key to all this was not to overwhelm yourself and to only take on small chunks at a time. For me I set aside one hour – 30 mins for clothes and 30 for makeup. This took more than one day (several) but it allowed me time to make a decision about everything and I could at least see progress. Eventually I had 8 trash bags of clothes (this purge was long long overdue) and made several gallon bags filled with makeup that I passed onto other people.
1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good? Nothing much. I learned to be hard on myself from my parents, teachers, and bosses. I only see what I didn’t get done, or didn’t get done well enough – I lose sight of my accomplishments because generally speaking, no one else sees or cares about them.
2. Last beauty product you bought? TheBalm Anne T. Dotes Tinted Moisturizer. It came with a free mini Matt Hughes liquid lip. No one ever seems to talk about this brand – is it on some kind of blacklist or something?
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue? Purple. I have hazel green eyes so that works well.
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no? Only if it’s light rain. In this area most of the rain falls very heavily, often with lightning. The lightning risk is such that it really doesn’t make sense to spend any time in the rain here. Years ago, a high school kid was killed in football practice by lightning, and the storm was actually some distance away (that’s why the coach thought it was okay to be outside).
5. How has your fall been so far? Still highly stressed out. My health seems to be deteriorating (cancer patient here). The outcome of the election is horrifying to me. I know enough about history to know this is not going to end well for anyone, even the oligarchs who set all this in motion. Still have too much to do, but if my health gets bad enough, it will all be for naught, anyway. Sorry to be such a downer, but I deal in reality, not feel-good stuff.
1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good? Not quite there, but I am three emails away from Inbox Zero at work. I haven’t hit that in years. YEARS.
2. Last beauty product you bought? Replaced The Ordinary multi-peptide serum (FKA Buffet) and bought a shimmery eyeshadow stick. I think I have to admit that my eyelids are now too crepey for shimmer except maybe above the crease.
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue? Purple.
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no? Only if it’s warm out and I know I’m not out there indefinitely.
5. How has your fall been so far? Garbage. We’re in a drought here and haven’t had a good freeze, so early fall allergies are extending. Multiple coworkers are out with breathing issues it’s gotten so bad. Thank God I’ve been on allergy shots for a while, or I would be with them.
The election result is awful. The main effects on me are likely a loss of bodily autonomy (currently in a blue state but expecting a nationwide ban) unless I can get a sterilization scheduled and the loss of our early retirement plan. I’m also expecting the ACA to be repealed by next summer and without that, early retirement is going to be out of reach. So many others have it so much worse. I’m helping others find sterilization and long-term BC options, helping people in same-sex marriages find lawyers for backup paperwork, trying to organize parents to accelerate IEPs, etc. There are some things we can do to prepare before January 20th. It won’t be enough and it won’t save Ukraine, Gaza, West Bank, or anyone who “looks like an immigrant” but it will be something.
1. Something you accomplished recently that makes you feel good? Started the process of purging my makeup collection. And going through clothes and books deciding what to sell and what to donate. It’s a long ongoing process.
2. Last beauty product you bought? The new Beauty of Joseon Aqua-fresh sunscreen, Skin1004 Sunscreen and sheet masks and Dr. Jart Sheet masks.
3. Pick your fun eyeliner color – green, purple or blue? Oooh, I’d like them all but let’s go with purple.
4. Walking outside in the rain – yes or no? Yes
5. How has your fall been so far? Pretty good. Dear Husband took me to Seoul for my birthday and it was a fantastic trip.
