So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Muumuu or tutu?
Muumuu, babe. Mrs. Roper style all the way!
2. French braid or a messy bun?
Messy bun. It’s like the default state of my hair these days, hahaha.
3. Something that reminds you of home?
The smell of wet eucalyptus leaves (it’s a very Nor Cal scent, IMHO). Seeing green rolling hills in the distance. Bridges.
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)?
I just finished reading “One Italian Summer” by Rebecca Searle, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s sweet and thoughtful, and I felt like I was on an Italian vacation in Positano while I was reading it.
5. Your feelings about nail art?
Besides the fact that I’m terrible at it? LOL! I love it on others. On me, not so much. I’m pretty boring; I like one solid block of color on all my nails. I can’t even handle an accent nail, man. LOL!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.
1. Muumuu or tutu?
2. French braid or a messy bun?
3. Something that reminds you of home?
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)?
5. Your feelings about nail art?

1. Muumuu or tutu? Ugh, neither. But forced to choose I’d go with tutu and make it really artsy. I do not look good in long clothes.
2. French braid or a messy bun? Dear Daughter always asked for a French braid when she was in school.
3. Something that reminds you of home? Cold toilet seats, having to drive because of the lack of public transit, poor health care. Can you tell I’m souring on the state of the union?
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)? I just re-read “Free Food for Millionaires” by Min Jin Lee. (who wrote Pachinko) She’s an amazing writer and I got a different take on it this time.
5. Your feelings about nail art? I love seeing it on others. Have been obsessed lately with holographic polish that seems to add depth and movement to nails. I haven’t bothered with a manicure in ages, it just chips off within 24 hours no matter who does my nails.
1. Muumuu or tutu? If I had to – I’d pick the muumuu.
2. French braid or a messy bun? French Braids are TOO much work – messy bun!
3. Something that reminds you of home? Spruce trees (we are right in the middle of the city of Chicago but our Mission Bungalow is on two lots and has a stand of 100 year old Spruces around us).
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)? West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge – marvelous!
5. Your feelings about nail art? Not for me, I’m lucky to get my ballet slipper colored Chanel polish on. But I admire it in others.
1. Muumuu or tutu?
Muumuu, ftw. It’s all about the comfort these days.
2. French braid or a messy bun?
Messy bun. See above.😄😉
3. Something that reminds you of home?
Azaleas.
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)?
Conclave, by Robert Harris. The movie is based on this book; it was a barn-burner.
5. Your feelings about nail art?
I enjoy looking at it, but it’s too much trouble for me.
1. Muumuu or tutu? Muumuu. I have one from The Vermont Country Store (online company). Though the one I got is fairly plain, they have some nice ones year-round but the prices are high when they’re not on clearance.
2. French braid or a messy bun? Since I have no one to help with my hair, at this point I’d say neither. Though I do have one of those French pin tools I’ve been trying to learn how to use properly.
3. Something that reminds you of home? The question for me is “what is home?” I had to move many times through the age of 12. They say your “sense of place” is usually determined by where you lived at the age of 9-10. For me that would be California. Pictures of Joshua trees and Red Rock Canyon remind me of that home. More recently, I’d say it’s crepe myrtles in full bloom in the summer (though I absolutely hate Texas summer and anyone who says they don’t is lying).
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)? I have a bad habit of skipping around in books, and read mostly non-fiction, anyway. The one fiction book that is almost my “bible” is “The Mysterious Stranger Manuscripts,” a UC Berkeley textbook about the three different manuscripts Twain worked on the last few years before his death. Well worth reading. If you have only read the bowdlerized version of “The Mysterious Stranger,” you really don’t know the truth about this (these) work (works). The one version that was first printed was cut and pasted by his literary executor in a way that would have absolutely infuriated Twain. He took the ending chapter written for another version and put it on the printed version, among many other changes.
5. Your feelings about nail art? It’s okay but I don’t have the time for it. I feel like the sand is running out of my hourglass and I just don’t have time for things like that.
1. Muumuu or tutu? I don’t wear either, but maybe I dressed up in a tutu as a child or when I took dance….. I don’t really want either, but I guess a muumuu would be comfy.
2. French braid or a messy bun?
Neither, I don’t bother braiding my hair and I can’t do a messy bun, even though I’ve watched a million tutorials. So it’s pony tail for me.
3. Something that reminds you of home?
When I drive past the DQ (dairy Queen) that I walked to with friends to get a dipped cone. Oops I thought it says reminds me of my childhood…home I’d say: view of the mountains.
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)?
I just replied with a couple recommendations on a previous comment. I haven’t started reading anything new since….Oh I just thought of one that I’m reading bit by bit: How to stop breaking your own heart.
5. Your feelings about nail art?
Never been into it. I hardly even get my nails done or take time to do my own nails. Like many have said, it looks great on others. I don’t quite get the obsession with crazy nail shapes and ideas. Seems like many people are getting their nails done and I just can’t understand spending that kind of money. I do dream about having my nails well manicured in a short shape with a classic red color…but my nails chip so darn quickly and then removing the dark colors is a royal pain.
1. Muumuu or tutu? neither one!
2. French braid or a messy bun? Love French braids but don’t know how to do them. So I go for the messy bun!
3. Something that reminds you of home? Diners! Late night french fries with brown gravy!
4. What’s the last book you finished that you’d like to recommend to a friend (aka me, hahaha)? Unfortunately, None…I am a big web surfer and read tons that way!
5. Your feelings about nail art? Fun for young! I like classy, subtle nails that go with all outfits!
