So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips?
Nail polish that never chipped! In a heartbeat.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair?
Not great. Actually, terrible. I realized I really need to work at it when I tried to do Connor’s hair in a french braid for a dance competition, and it looked so wonky it was laughable.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there?
I’ll do a little polite chat, mostly because I know I’ll have to get up a few times to go to the bathroom, and if I have to climb over them, it’s a little less awkward.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal?
Usually bubbly water or plain water. Sometimes I’ll have an iced tea with lunch, or a very watered down juice (like, 50% of it is water).
5. Pick one: walking or biking?
Walking! I’m less likely to crash into someone or something. Hahaha!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips? A nail polish that never chipped. I never wear polish on my hands because I hate fixing it. If I had that…I might actually take the time to paint them. I’m really hard on polish and it never lasts.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? I can straighten and curl. I can trim some length off. I can NOT braid or do elaborate updos.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there? I have not been on a flight for over a decade…not sure.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? Water
5. Pick one: walking or biking? Walking.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips? A good mascara, I have tried a hundred different ones, and most smear or flake on me (and I don’t have oily skin or use cream product around my eyes)
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? Not good at all, you would NOT want me to do your hair.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there? I usually bring a book, that way if they wish to chat a little I’m not ignoring them.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? Water
5. Pick one: walking or biking? Walking – too many people and dogs out on the trails around here to bike with ease.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips? I don’t wear nail polish and I’m good with my foundation and mascara. What I’d really love to find is a lipstick in a color that I love in a formula that doesn’t dry out my parched lips.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? I’m a hair style minimalist and so I’m probably not good at doing other people’s hair.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there? While getting settled and during takeoff, I might engage in a bit of polite chat, but once we’re up in the wild blue yonder, I put headphones on and read or nap. If it’s a long flight, I might chat a bit during meal service.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? Water or half water with half fresh lemonade.
5. Pick one: walking or biking? I’m an inveterate walker. At my age (81), biking probably isn’t a very good idea.
1. Foundation that perfectly matches my skin tone.
2. I love braiding hair! I think I do alright. No niece gets away without a signature plait. And I have ribbons in my purse for any opportunity!
3. I’m too shy to start but will gush if engaged.
4. Sparkling all day
5. Walking. It’s like moving meditation for me, uplifting spring, sunny summer, crunchy fall, pensive winter snow.
1. I’d rather have a foundation that perfectly matches my skintone.
2. I can straighten someone else’s hair. But if you want it curled I’m not the one you want to ask lol
3. I’ve never flown before. I’ve always taken road trips. I’d like to fly one day though. It’s on my bucket list.
4. Water
5.I’d rather walk than ride a bike.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips?
I think a foundation that perfectly matched my skin tone, since it’s so light it’s hard to find one that looks like skin and not like white paint.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? I’m okay at doing a basic shoulder-length simple haircut. I did that for my mother for several years. Now I’m learning how to do it on myself, because I hate to spend money and time at a salon.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there?
To me, airplanes are a noisy hell. I put on the noise-cancelling headphones as soon as it’s practical. Saved my mental health on the 6 business flights (coach class) that I had to go on earlier in this century. A conversation would be an energy-wasting waste of time – having to practically yell above the engine noise.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? A soft drink or water.
5. Pick one: walking or biking? I’d love to bike again. I don’t own a bike, and the area I live in is VERY dangerous because a high percentage of drivers don’t even follow traffic laws (neither do the bicyclists). I get exhausted easily because of anemia and cancer-related health problems, so I can’t walk much, but I could probably bicycle pretty far.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips? Still looking for a replacement to Clinique’s Naturally Glossy mascara, sadly discontinued, that for me was long-lasting and easy to remove.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? Pretty good.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there? I acknowledge them but don’t interact beyond basic manners.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? Water
5. Pick one: walking or biking? Walking
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips?
Nail polish, the very fact I do not apply nail paint is coz in 2 days it chips
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair?
I can’t do my own hair except putting in some curls and straightening, forget other people’s.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there?
Usually I sleep most of the flight so I usually smile and if exchange some hi/hello.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal?
Mostly water
5. Pick one: walking or biking?
Walking,
I am scared of crashing into something with bikes, as an adult I had a fall while riding a bike and it took forever to recover so now I am super scared.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips?
Nail polish that never chipped. Then I’d actually wear it!
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair?
Not bad. I’ve helped my friends with perms, buzzed a guy’s hair in college, and trimmed and shaped my mom’s hair when she couldn’t get out to get it cut. Other than that I can do two simple braids if called upon.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there?
I seldom fly, but have done both depending on the seat mate.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal?
Water. Always water.
5. Pick one: walking or biking?
I enjoy both, but haven’t been on my bike in years. May be time for a tune up and reacquaintance.
1. Which would you rather have in your makeup collection: a nail polish that never chipped, a foundation that perfectly matched your skin tone, a long-lasting mascara that was easy to remove or a lipstick that never dried out your lips? The foundation for sure, but it would also wear OK under a mask.
2. How good are you at doing other people’s hair? Decent for kids, otherwise probably not great.
3. What do you do when you’re sitting on a flight next to a stranger: chat them up or put in your headphones and pretend they’re not there? Oh, the latter for sure.
4. What drink do you typically have with a meal? Water or Diet Dr. Pepper. I used to drink milk regularly with meals, but since I left my hometown (a major dairy-producing area) I haven’t been able to drink glasses of milk anywhere else.
5. Pick one: walking or biking? Walking. I don’t think I’ve been on a bike in 30 years.
