So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. How would you rather spend some unexpected afternoon free time: watching a movie, going for a walk or reading a book?
I’d love some extra time to read! I recently found a new-to-me author that I enjoy, Rebecca Searle, and I’m going through all of her books.
2. What did you last cry about?
Well, I went to the OBGYN last week, and I had a mini-meltdown when the nice nurse took my blood pressure. I think it’s a little bit of leftover post-traumatic stress from going to the doctor so much last year along with some hormonal stuff (dang this peri-menopause).
3. What would you rather do with a friend: play card games, have a picnic in the park or go to the farmers’ market?
Let’s go to the farmers’ market and sample all the delicious spring fruit and then bring home $20 strawberries and a sourdough baguette!
4. Pick a free hair service (done by a stylist you love, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions?
I haven’t had a haircut since August (!), so a cut would be great.
5. Something memorable that happened in March?
Last month was a busy one for our family with lots of memories made! My favorite one, though, was seeing Connor compete in an individual improv dance competition (her first performance without her team) and watching her move onto the final round. She didn’t take home one of the top three prizes, so she was a little disappointed, but she did receive a scholarship, which was great.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. How would you rather spend some unexpected afternoon free time: taking a nap, going for a walk or reading a book?
Always reading.
2. What did you last cry about?
Just general frustration and perimenopausal hormones.
3. What would you rather do with a friend: play card games, have a picnic in the park or go to the farmers’ market?
I love the idea of a farmers’ market, but my bestie and I would have the most fun playing cards and spilling all. the. tea.😄
4. Pick a free hair service (done by a stylist you love, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions?
Highlights. I like my cut right now, but I would like some fresh color for the spring/summer.
5. Something memorable that happened in March?
Nothing, in the best possible way. March is usually crazy; this year I intentionally scheduled things so that they were more spread out over March-May, so I won’t lose my mind. It does help that my second niece graduated last year; no more Spring Break/prom/testing/end of year insanity!
1. How would you rather spend some unexpected afternoon free time: taking a nap, going for a walk or reading a book? Warm weather – walk; cold weather- book
2. What did you last cry about? Bad cry – when my husband said he had cancer. Good cry – I had corrective surgery on my eye to fix a badly drooping eyelid & I cried when I saw the result
3. What would you rather do with a friend: play card games, have a picnic in the park or go to the farmers’ market? Farmers market
4. Pick a free hair service (done by a stylist you love, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions? Highlights because that would be a treat
5. Something memorable that happened in March? March was uneventful this year which was good
1. How would you rather spend some unexpected afternoon free time: taking a nap, going for a walk or reading a book?
Probably reading a book, because I have many library books, and books I’ve purchased that I still haven’t gotten around to reading. And with my health the way it is, I don’t want to die without having read them.
2. What did you last cry about?
You may find that once you’re post-menopausal, you don’t cry too easily, because of the lack of estrogen. At least I think that’s what did it to me (though it might also have been the weight of having been through and seen a lot of awful things in the course of my life – look up Jackson Browne’s song “Doctor My Eyes”). I can only tear up when reading about dog situations that remind me of my late, beloved Sheltie. Even being diagnosed with cancer didn’t make me cry. (In fact, considering how my life has gone, I felt it just went with every other sorry thing that ever happened to me.)
3. What would you rather do with a friend: play card games, have a picnic in the park or go to the farmers’ market?
Have a picnic. I have a really nice, large picnic basket (outfitted with plates and utensils) that I’ve never used because of the lack of decent weather when I was free and still had people in my life who might have wanted to go on a picnic.
4. Pick a free hair service (done by a stylist you love, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions? Haircut.
5. Something memorable that happened in March?
Nothing good. March saw the further progress of the Constitution being shredded by the “president” and his party . 😱 This is almost unbearable stress for me to deal with – I love this country and its ideals, but I well know that we have not achieved the fruition of a real democratic republic that considers “all men (and women) are equal under the law.” We were getting closer, though. Then these people in charge are intentionally tearing it all down, in favor of authoritarianism, oligarchy, and white “Christian” supremacy. Pure greed and unquestioned power. I fear for the future of children like Connor.
1. How would you rather spend some unexpected afternoon free time: taking a nap, going for a walk or reading a book? Reading a book.
2. What did you last cry about? I found an old photo of my brother from when we were kids playing together. He died 11 years ago this month.
3. What would you rather do with a friend: play card games, have a picnic in the park or go to the farmers’ market? Farmers market.
4. Pick a free hair service (done by a stylist you love, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions? Smoothing treatment (hopefully with a scalp massage).
5. Something memorable that happened in March? I put in my retirement papers. I’ll be 67. I love my job but I’m looking forward to mornings with coffee and a book, not zoom meetings and deadlines..
