So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive?
I used to be OK at it, but these days not so much. I think I could still be if I wasn’t so busy with taking care of the other living things in my family (human, cat and dog, LOL). One day soon, though, Connor won’t need me as much, so maybe then I’ll get back into gardening.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by?
Aveeno body moisturizers. Sure, they’re not particularly exciting in terms of ingredients, but they keep my skin happily moisturized without any irritation, and the scents don’t aggravate my migraines.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia?
Insomnia, hands down.
4. How often do you iron your clothes?
Most days because I can’t deal with wrinkly shirts.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you already like?
Let’s try a new one, why not?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. How good are you at keeping plants alive?
Very good, but sometimes bad weather, insects, plant diseases, rabbits, and other things cause severe problems. I’m better with house plants, but even there, I have only a west-facing window for light, and that’s not really good, especially since this is a hot-summer area.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by?
If The Ordinary is a drugstore brand (I really don’t know), I really like their HA 2% + B5 liquid.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia?
Oh, I have some form of insomnia almost all the time. After a certain age, it’s inevitable (look up 3:00 AM awakenings on YouTube). Probably the bug bite, because I can end up scratching it until it bleeds and/or forms a scar.
4. How often do you iron your clothes?
Not very often because most of my clothes look OK without ironing (the best no-iron clothes are 60/40 or 50/50 poly/cotton blends). Years ago I ironed my clothes in my hotel room when I went on a business trip, and I’d bet I was the only one there who did.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like?
Try a new one, as I still haven’t found the perfect one for me.
PS – there’s a rose disease that’s spread by mites, that has destroyed a lot of the roses in Texas. I don’t know if it’s in northern CA yet. There’s no cure for it – you have to throw out the plant. You can spot it by the enormous number of thorns that grow on the infested plants. Since I only have 2 rose bushes, not near each other, mine are still un-infected.
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive? Meh😐. Outside plants…I’m pretty good. Inside…not so much.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by? Maybelline mascara
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia? Insomnia
4. How often do you iron your clothes? Never. I will steam, but I hate ironing.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like? I’m willing to try new ones.
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive?
Not very good.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by?
L’Oreal mascaras
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia?
Having insomnia
4. How often do you iron your clothes?
Very often. Ironing clothes has developed into a relaxing activity for me and some days I prefer it to washing dishes.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like?
Always open to trying a new one if it comes across my radar.
Have a good week and school year ahead! 🙂
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive? No problem. I live in a valley that has rich soil so anything that is suited to the climate thrives with little fussing.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by? My rosacea is mild and well controlled, but for the rare occasions that it does act up, I swear by Vanicream moisturizer.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia? At my age, sleeping more than a couple hours at a time is a rare occurrence and some nights even that eludes me. I’ve learned not to fight insomnia because it just goes with the territory. So, a really itchy bug bite is what I’d consider worse.
4. How often do you iron your clothes? I have very bad arthritis and so I don’t purchase clothes that will require ironing.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like? I stick to the same mascara for a while, but then try something else when a new and interesting formula comes along. Sometimes I’ll stay with the new; sometimes I’ll go back to the old. Since I never ever keep mascara longer than 3 months, it’s not a big deal to change things up; try something new.
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive? I can kill a plant just by looking at it.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by? Those cotton rounds. I’ve been cleansing with a tallow oil cleanser from Granola Mama (cleared up my acne – who’d have thought?) and the pads just wipe off the excess with a little water.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia? Insomia!
4. How often do you iron your clothes? Never, I get no iron shirts to wear for zoom meetings or church, otherwise, I’m in athletic pants and t shirts since I retired.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like? I have tried about every mascara out there, the only ones that don’t smear or flake on me is Rare Beauty, Ere Perez, and the original L’Oreal one (though it WILL start to smear after about six hours).
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive?
I don’t know because I’be never tried to keep one alive. lol
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by?
L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia?
Insomnia
4. How often do you iron your clothes?
Rarely. I just hope and pray the dryer takes the wrinkles out.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like?
I stick to what I like mostly. But I’ll occasionally try a new one for fun. 🙂
How good are you at keeping plants alive? Recently I got a couple of succulents & they are really thriving. I guess for me, it’s best to forget all about them!
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by? ELF cosmetics. Very inexpensive and really great.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia? Insomnia is always around, getting a really itchy bug bite would probably kill me, lol.
4. How often do you iron your clothes? Never.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like? Try a new one.
1. How good are you at keeping plants alive?
Not good at all. I understand pets, not plants. Invariably I try to give the plants something when they don’t need anything, and it kills them.
2. A drugstore beauty staple you swear by?
Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover is my jam.
3. What’s worse: getting a really itchy bug bite or having insomnia?
Having insomnia.
4. How often do you iron your clothes?
Never. If absolutely desperate I will use wrinkle release spray.
5. Would you rather try a new mascara or stick to one that you know you like?
New mascara is tempting, but I’ve read great reviews for terrible mascaras so new ones make me a little nervous. There’s nothing quite like trying a new waterproof mascara and realizing sometime midday that you’ve been walking around with raccoon eyes.
