About the pic up top, around these parts, back-to-school season is always marked by beautiful pink lilies that pop up alongside of the road. If you ever visit Marin county in August, you’ll see these flowers, otherwise known as the naked ladies.
It’s crazy to me that August is almost over. I got an email the other day from Connor’s second grade teachers with the schedule for the new school year, and thank goodness they did, because I totally forgot that school starts at 8:30 on the dot, ha ha ha! I seriously thought it was 9… I guess it’s been a good summer. 🙂
I think Rosie will be happy to have her quiet house back!
She spent a long time snuggling with me this morning while I drank my coffee because Connor and El Hub went fishing at the crack of dawn.
Connor recently graduated to a “big girl fishing pole” and caught her first fish! I think Rosie is very proud and not-so-secretly hoping that she’ll have some fresh nibbles to eat later when they get back. I keep telling her to lower her kitty expectations because I have a feeling Connor is a “catch and release” kind of fisherwoman.

Those of us in the south really want August to be over (and September, too, really, because September is usually hot, too (highs from 90-100 are typical). It could be over 110 degrees in my area tomorrow. It was 109 yesterday. We haven’t had rain in over a month (and the weathercasters cry “drought!” 🤣when we don’t have rain for two weeks here). The soil is cracking severely in areas that aren’t well watered. We have horrible clay soil in this area – it destroys slab foundations. Nothing is blooming here that isn’t being very well taken care of – plants can die in one day without water here. I am hoping that the weather becomes more normal in October (May and October are usually our rainiest months). However, we often still have highs in the 90s in late October. Not a climate for people who hate hot weather, that’s for sure. I’ll bet none of the “billionaires” and other famous rich people who claim Texas as their home are actually here right now. The Bushes go to Maine every summer – I bet they’ve been there since May. Musk is probably in California. I wish the press would check on where these people actually spend their time every year – I believe most of them are cheating on their taxes by claiming to live in Texas when they spend 75-90% of their time somewhere else.
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that I got to fish at a rainbow trout pond in CA when I was 9 years old. It was a lot of fun. Wish I could do that here, but they only release trout about once a year, and the heat kills them off pretty fast.
