Hello, friend! Happy Saturday.
I’m desperately trying to avoid falling into an internet rabbit hole of researching easy marinara sauce recipes with fresh tomatoes. My back deck tomato plant is having a moment, and I have a bumper crop of tomatoes I need to do something with ASAP!
I was contemplating bruschetta or panzanella, but I’m craving pasta. If you have a simple sauce that you like send it this way, please. My future delicious pasta dish and I thank you!
On that note, it’s been a very quiet morning. El Hub and Connor left early to go fishing, so I drank coffee, ate some toast and finished the second season of “And Just Like That,” aka the spin-off to “Sex and the City.”
Have you watched the show? What did you think? I’m dying to talk to someone about it!
Anywho, it was a peaceful and lovely way to start the day. Rosie didn’t mind it, either.

What’s going on with you on this beautiful Caturday? I hope you are doing something nice for yourself today.
This week’s reading
- Here’s a fragrance fun fact for ya! Chypre is a French word that means Cyprus, and it’s pronounced “sheep-r.”
- I’m currently training my mind to focus on glimmers (which are the opposite of triggers) that happen throughout the day.
- This story on art to hang in a college freshman dorm room got me thinking about the posters that one saw on the walls back in the day. In my dorm, there were plenty of “Pulp Fiction” movie posters, moody photos by Ansel Adams and those weird 3D images that were suppose to pop out at you if you squinted at them long enough.
- A new vending machine called the Beauty Genie which dispenses hair care products is the first of its kind in the rural town college campus of the University of Olivet.
- How to find the right hair oil for your hair type.
- Anyone else looking forward to fall? I’m already planning to try a few of the recipes on this list of fall dinner ideas, yum!

So looking forward to fall. Summer is my least favorite season – I know – & last fall I was dealing with issues that ended up in surgery at the end of October. I’m super excited for this season. Today is our anniversary so tonight is dinner out & tomorrow is brunch. As my hubby put it – anniversary-palooza!
Happy anniversary, Melissa! I hope you guys had a wonderful night out.
Chypres happen to be my favorite genre of perfume!! My signature scent is Chanel Cristalle eau de toilette, and Chanel #19 eau de toilette is a close second. My favorite perfumes are chypres with aldehydes in them. Woo Hoo!! Interesting article. Thanks Karen!!
I love those scents, too, Sherry! Have you ever smelled Gucci Rush? I don’t know if they make it anymore (I should’ve kept my bottle, sigh), but it’s a fruity chypre and just lovely.
I haven’t finished “And Just Like That” yet but I’m loving the return of Aiden and how happy Carrie seems with him! Love to watch Miranda’s and Charlotte’s kids growing up too! If you’re looking for something to watch on Max, you should check out “Girl Meets Farm”. It’s a cooking show and Molly Yeh and her family live in my town. (Maybe she has a good tomato pasta recipe?!) They opened a restaurant here too. Anyway enjoy your Saturday!
I won’t tell you how the season ends, but when you get there you have to let me know so we can talk about it!
Thank you for the show recommendation. I need something to tide me over until the next season of “The Gilded Age” comes out.
You’re lucky to live in a climate where tomatoes flourish. They struggle with the heat where I live (every year, it’s just too hot for them). I bought a “Celebrity” variety tomato a few weeks ago to see if I could grow some small tomatoes for my elderly mother. It’s hanging on, but has not bloomed at all – I hope I can keep it alive long enough to bloom and set fruit in late September or October. Summer in most of Texas is 5 to 6 months long, and that has always been true. This year, though, is worse than usual, with so many 105+ degree days, and no rain in my area in more than a month (that very rarely happens). Yesterday and today were 110 degree days!😬
That is crazy hot! Is it humid where you live? I think our tomatoes like the sun and heat, but they especially like that it isn’t too humid.
Last week I finished “And Just Like That” and loved it! I was happy to hear it got renewed for a 3rd season – woo hoo!
I can mirror what CL said above (we must be neighbors!). I used to attempt to grow tomatoes but it gets so hot so quickly here in Dallas, the only ones that grow are the little bitty cherry tomatoes. Those are fine, but even they struggle come May.
This summer has been SO hot and we haven’t had rain for 6+ weeks. We’re something like 10.5″ behind. Trees are dying right and left around here. 🙁
I was pleasantly surprised by the second season. I feel like the characters had much more depth this time around!
