Hiya and happy Caturday!
Yesterday I had a very good brow day, so of course, I had to document it for prosperity’s sake, ha!
I went to lunch with a friend yesterday who loves beauty as much as I do (hi, Marisol!), and we spent a long time talking about how the texture of our hair has changed seemingly overnight in the last few years.
Apparently, it was all fun and games until we hit our 40s. We talked at length about how now our hair needs more TLC than it used to. I feel like I’m always looking for moisturizing products that don’t weigh my hair down. If you know of any, please, help a lady out.
What are your plans for the day? I’m off to drink another cup of coffee, and then we’ve got errands to run.
Before you head out on your adventures, though, here some weekend reading for ya.
This week’s beauty reading
- “Tween” skincare is a thing.
- How can you tell if your skin care is legit and not counterfeit?
- What to look for in a sunscreen if you have eczema.
- It’s time to add sunscreen to your hair routine.
- I ask myself this question every morning when I pour two tablespoons of collagen powder into my coffee: Do collagen supplements help hair grow?
- A manicurist’s tips for making nails dry faster.
- The strange story of a cat lockdown!
- Romans were seriously into hair removal.
Smokey eyes, always
I’ve been rocking out to this song all week long
I want all the things
5 minutes? Yes please!
I totally teared up during the series finale
Take me back to the ’80s please
Note to self
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve been using It’s a 10 Lite for a couple of years now, and it works pretty well at detangling, smoothing, and moisturizing hair (just a little). I’m about out of it so I might get the heavier version as it’s now on sale. I also like the Biosilk leave-in product, but that might be too heavy for some people’s hair.
I use the It’s A 10 but I didn’t realize there’s a light version. I like it but if I use too much my hair looks really dirty.
I’ve been following this person on instagram abbeyyung and she studies trichology (you can totally tell by her hair lol) and she recommends using the ogx coconut miracle oil on mid length to ends before shampooing and it totally helps with moisture and hair health 🙂
Yes, I agree- I hit my 40’s and it’s like I have someone else’s head of hair. I’ve had to completely change how I style it, the products I use, and definitely how it can/can’t be cut. I’m getting the hang of it, but there were some dark, dark hairstyling years in between.
A few products I would recommend:
1) Briogeo’s Superfood Avocado + Kiwi Moisture Leave-In Conditioner. Fantastic detangler, you don’t need much, and it doesn’t weigh hair down. (I love Briogeo so much!)
2) Also, my niece swears by OGX Nourishing + Coconut Miracle Oil, specifically the mist, to combat frizz.
3) But this is my regular routine: wash with Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi shampoo, condition every other shower with Trader Joe’s Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Hair Mask (about $4/5 oz), and a tiny bit of Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hydrating Hair Oil Serum when my hair has dried. (The mini size lasts me for months.) When I don’t use the TJ’s mask, I use the Briogeo.
Your brows are spot on! Love the phone case, it’s very Burberry-esque, particularly with the trench.
In retrospect the changes in skin and hair at 40 are nothing compared to the ones after menopause and at 60. Sigh. Like the saying goes, “If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” I actually thought I was doing a good job, but age is like underwear, it has a funny way of creeping up on you.
Luckily for women younger than me, skincare and self care just keeps getting better.
BTW, we’ve always kept our cats indoors. The first cat we had got out overnight and some critter got to her and well… large vet fees later she was mended up. But never, ever again. I freak out when we have workmen in the house and I worry about Nibbler getting out.
Olaplex No 6! Just use it on your ends and it works so well when you’re in between trims and ends are looking dry! Got a sample of it and I’ve since bought 2 full size ones. It’s not heavy at all. BTW Ulta has a sale on select Olaplex products, 2 for $40!
Those are some great brows! If you swap out the bronze for blue in the V technique video, you’ll be transported back to the 80s. HAHA! Btw, love I’m Your Man. My fave Wham! song. Teared up during the final Ted Lasso? OMG, I had to leave the room for the team slideshow. Niagara Falls, Frankie Angel! And the tears were in free flow for most of the rest of the ep. Especially when I realized it was the series finale and not the season. Just wait until you’re 50 and the sentimentality really hits. HAHA!
