Happy Caturday from The Cat Lady Crew (TCLC)!
Pretty Girl Rosie has been a member of Team MBB for a little over a month now, and my two girls are getting along famously. Rosie kindly allows Connor Claire to attend to her demanding kitty needs, and the two of them spend a lot of time chatting, playing hide and seek, and doing art projects. Rosie transforms into quite the micromanager when someone is sitting at their desk, and she’ll immediately park her dainty self on your lap (or, on top of your desk) if there’s any free space available.
Slowly, but surely, she’s opening up more and more.
How’s your morning been so far? After I finish my coffee and get ready, I’m off to Sur La Table and Michaels to pick up some baking supplies so I can do some practice bakes at home this weekend. And then we’re hopefully going to be painting Connor Claire’s bedroom at some point as well (Behr Moxie, a pale lavender).
But before that, here’s your weekly dose of Saturday Surfing reading! ?

- These women take Halloween seriously! They spare no expense on Halloween makeup and on-demand hair and makeup services like Priv and Glamsquad.
- Nivea Crème, Vaseline and Cetaphil. I love all three, and folks seem to either love or hate these classic beauty products. Which camp do you fall into?
- In the most random skincare news of the week, actor and former ’80s teen hearthrob Rob Lowe just launched his own line, which includes face washes, scrubs and moisturizers.
- A hair removal company is asking ladies to grow out their ‘stashes for Movember.
- Five styling products for hair that has difficulty holding moisture.
- Hair accessories that help this author cope with compulsive hair-pulling.
Ooh baby, baby, it’s a wild world!
One of my favorites. Peep those wings!
Note to self, try this.
I hope something fabulous happens to you this weekend! Talk to you soon. ?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ugh hair pulling, I’ve been afflicted with this since I was a child. I’m not to the point that the writer is with pulling my hair out but I can’t stand to leave any split ends alone. It’s an OCD/anxiety thing. Meditating helps.
Did you see Rob Lowe and Kristin have a new holiday movie out on Netflix? It looks cute. I find her kind of saccharine but I adore him. So much. So much adoration for that man.
Sur la Table! One of my happy places. Have fun!
I’m so glad Rosie is warming up. She must think it’s her job to watch Connor at night! So cute!
I forgot Kristin’s last name, it’s Davis! Holiday movies must be her jam. She did a funny one with Danny Devito and Matthew Broderick a few years ago.
I haven’t seen the trailer… I’d watch it though. I’m a sucker for cheesy holiday movies! Especially ones with a happy ending.
How’s your weekend been?
Not as much fun as I wanted it to be. It’s been one argument after another with the teenager. No one ever told me how hard it was going to be to parent a 16-year-old boy. It’s really tough. He’s mean and surly and filled with testosterone-charged aggression. And he’s taller than my husband now. That’s the one thing we had going for us–a little bit of height.
I’m going to masque and martini this evening though no matter what! Perhaps a foot mask too.
Did Connor get a good Halloween haul?
Aww! So glad Rosie is settling in with your family. Give her time. Nora was mostly absent and skittish for the first six months she was with us. She never turned into a lap kitty, but she would sit on the back of the sofa behind me, quietly purring and occasionally gently putting a paw on my shoulder.
Nope, not gonna grow out my mustache or chin hairs. Lol.
Don’t like the perfumed scent of Nivea, I find Cetaphil cleanser to be to drying and harsh, but I still love Vaseline. I find a slick of jojoba oil on the cuticles sealed in with Vaseline is the only thing that keeps my cuticles from turning into dried out, cracked callouses.
I still think Rob Lowe is hot after all these years. Loved him in West Wing and Parks And Rec.
Have a nice weekend. How’s the air quality up your way. I am so glad they’re making progress containing the Kincade fire.
Hi Tatiana,
I remember thinking he was kinda cute on a Tiger Beat cover back in the day, LOL!
The air is better around these parts (Connor says it smells like “hot dogs” when it’s smoky outside). Honestly I’m just so thankful to have power! It was a rough few days last week.
How did your haircut go, by the way? And did you find anything good at Barney’s?
I bought Surrat Beauty Dew Drops Foundation and a face brush. After I washed the face brush I noticed it smells like butt. I washed it a second time and it’s a bit better. Sigh.
I really hate my haircut. I let my stylist do whatever she thought was best and it’s like I have two or three distinctly different haircuts that stick out on the sides on my head. Another stylist at my gym gave me advice for styling it and told me to let it grow. It helps, but it still springs into a weird shape later in the day. Leaving for Japan soon, so I don’t have time to have it fixed. I get bored with my “mom bob” haircut, but I just don’t do trendy very well.
You may or may not want to check your air quality. I find this site to be useful. https://www.purpleair.com/map?inc=422928&module=AQI&conversion=C0&average=10&layer=standard&advanced=false&inside=true&outside=true&mine=true#11.43/37.463/-122.1749
Happy Caturday! That’s great that Connor Claire and Rosie are getting along.
I’ve been using Vaseline for years. It keeps my lips moisturized and I use it on my cracked heels in the winter.
Good luck with your painting and baking projects today!
Thank you! I’m working on a pumpkin cupcake today. I was thinking of doing either cream cheese or vanilla buttercream frosting… What do you think?
P.S. Happy Sunday!
Rosie Posie! What a good girl. Glad she’s settling in and letting Connor Claire assist her.
I’ve pulled my hair out since I was a kid. Kids in my 6th grade history class called me Rogaine because I had a bald spot. It’s under control right now but it comes back in times of stress.
Rob Lowe always makes me think of Chris Traeger on Parks and Recreation.
Please feel free to share her pics with your wonderful mama! 🙂 Rosie loves the attention.
Hope you guys are having a wonderful weekend so far.
Just wanted to say I have those sheets you’re laying on in that last pic with Rosie, LOL!
Yes, girl! Martha Stewart at Macy’s, right? We also have the set with the flamingoes!
Yes! LOL I don’t have the flamingoes but I have one with Paris designs and one with mail & typewriters hahaha
I think Pretty Girl Rosie is most generous in the way she’s training Conor Claire up to be a proper Kitty Assistant.
She also seems to have felt that the household was a bit lacking and has decided to keep a paw firmly on the running of it such as settling everyone down at night. What a blessing she’s offered to take you all in paw!
Hi Sarah,
Connor is already showing great promise as a cat lady. 🙂 She already knows that one of the fastest ways to a cat’s heart is through his or her tummy and insists on feeding Rosie her wet food. She taps on the side of the bowl and says, “Here, kitty-kitty-kitty!” I think you would be impressed.
I love the scent of Nivea! And I like it best in the round tin. It’s not the same in the pump bottle. Classic.
Cetaphil is a very gentle non irritating cleanser but I feel like it leaves a film on the skin. I prefer Cera Ve!
And I don’t buy into the negativity about Vaseline. It’s an absolute staple for me in this Midwest Wintet. Nothing keeps the dry lips away quite like it. Put some on at night and lips are smooth, flake free all winter long. Laneige, Bite do not compare !
It’s so funny that this blog post includes info about Nivea Creme – and I’ll tell you why I’m commenting today!
So I’ve been following your blog since 2007 – (I need to comment more – I promise I will!) and I was at school pick up today waiting on my daughter. I see this one mom and I’m like…arrrgggg she really reminds me of someone…can’t put my finger on it. Then it hit me. I thought, “that’s it! She looks like Karen from MBB!!! and I flipped over to your blog for the rest of my waiting time.
Anyhoo, I ALSO had just bought a big ol’ jar of Nivea Creme yesterday, along with the little tin for my purse. I live in the desert – it’s as dry as you can imagine. I love it. And I was debating in my head – I know there are more modern and more sustainable ingredients, so I felt a little guilty. But….well, I just love the stuff. Nothing works better on my hands, elbows and heels.
So I just figured what better time to actually chime in and say HOWDY and it’s always such a joy reading your blog. You’re definitely a part of my world over here in Nevada and I thank you for it! Happy baking!
Hi Abby!
So glad you decided to pop in today. Funny that you should say that I look like someone you know… I get that a lot. 🙂 I’ve been told I look cousins, moms and the actress Ali Wong, ha ha ha!
Thank you for being part of MBB all this time. Crazy to think that it’s been around since 2007. Old school, baby! Speaking of old school, there’s something so comforting to me about Nivea lotion. I wore it all the time during my senior year college, and it takes me back to a simpler place in my life when I was really happy. So many memories attached to that scent!
P.S. How old is your daughter? Mine is three and a half now! She’s going to be four in March, which I cannot believe. The time really does go by so fast.
