Hiya, friend. I hope your weekend is off to a nice start.
It’s been unusually quiet on this end, I know. I haven’t been feeling super great because I found out that company I was working for is having some troubles, and that a bunch of us won’t be there for much longer — myself included. I’ve been taking this week to process and feel all the feelings.
Anywho. If you happen to know anyone hiring a beauty copywriter, please let me know! I’m here.
On a more cheerful note, something that made me smile this week was this pumpkin that Connor painted. See the blue eyeshadow, pink lipstick and purple blush? I think it’s a gentle reminder from the universe that makeup is supposed to be fun. 🙂
This week’s reading
- Another day, another funny TikTok trend.
- Black makeup artists on championing diversity and pay equality in the beauty industry.
- Chanel makeup artists on the products they use on famous clients.
- Hermès newest unexpected product in its beauty lineup — “Cabriole,” a fragrance for kids.
- Cher has a new line of perfumes.
- Oh, and there’s also a new Whitney Houston perfume.
- The return of the Lipstick King.
- Why do black cats have a reputation for evil?
- Do you know any of the San Francisco corner store cats?
- Want to know if your cat loves you?
- Skin care tips from a dermatologist.
Taking notes!
Talk to me.
Time to have some pumpkin seeds.
I’ve been really into hair videos lately!
Weekend vibes.
I’ve been trying to treat myself with sweetness and kindness all week long, so today, after we take Connor to the zoo, I plan to hit up either Nordstrom or Sephora for a pick me up. Maybe a nice mascara will be involved?
Have a great rest of your day. Sending you a hug!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m so sorry to hear about your job! You are so talented. I have no doubt your next great opportunity is out there. Treating yourself with kindness is the way!
That pumpkin is all kinds of adorable. I think you have a budding artist on your hands! Enjoy your Saturday.
I am sorry for you and your colleagues who will be laid off. That’s always so hard. Thinking good thoughts for you to find another, better gig.
I hope you find something amazing very soon! I just wanted to thank you for your Saturday Surfing articles and videos. You always post the most helpful and interesting things!
I am so sorry about your job, Karen. I hope you are able to find something else you love to do very soon. You are such a great writer, I’ve no doubt there is something great just around the corner (like maybe writing children’s books about a certain cat we all know?) I hope you find something wonderful this weekend to cheer you up. Sending good thoughts your way.
I’m so sorry to hear about your job. I’ve also been laid off and having to leave a job but not on your terms is so hard. Know that things will be OK and that new doors will open. You are so talented and have so much to offer.
I’m so sorry, Karen! I’ve been laid off before. It feels so crushing and scary. You are a talented force of a writer. But I know times are tough out there. Off the top of my head, can you look into Buzzfeed, The Every Girl, Byrdie, Cup of Jo, Allure online, and others in those same veins? Your blog has been around for ages and you have quite a reputation for consistent and excellent content! I’d also be scouring LinkedIn. You’re not just a great beauty copy editor, you’re a great writer. Is this a time to reinvent yourself? Dip your toe in the water and work in something adjacent? I have faith in you that whatever you do next, it will be bigger and better. God bless you and your family. Keep your positivity and ingenuity about you – no one can take those things away. Your readers are here for you always!
I’m so sorry to read of your impending layoff. You have some incredible talent and I will keep my fingers Xed for your next opportunity. I wish I knew of something to throw your way. Wishing you all the luck!
I am reading the blog backwards, so I already expressed how sorry I am on your latest post, but still: You deserve a great opportunity waiting for you right around the corner.
Go all out with the kindness to yourself.
