Happy Caturday, my friend. You know that all is well in the world when you walk into a HomeGoods and see a plethora of cat lady mugs ??☕ on the shelves near the cash registers.
(This is an important signal.)
One could build an entire collection of kitty-themed mugs based solely on quick jaunts to HomeGoods. (Ha ha ha, is there even such a thing? I’m lucky if I get out of there in half an hour.)
I love the chonky kittehs on the “Catfinated” mug and the sweet Siamese posing betwixt the flowers, especially.

Today, I’m enjoying my morning brew from my trusty XXL kitty teacup, which was also a HomeGoods find, and catching up on my reading.

I’m smack-dab in the middle of reading Maida Heatter’s Brand New Book of Great Cookies (FEELING THIS SO HARD) and The Modern Cook’s Year, by Anna Jones (eh, kinda boring). I’m also listening to an audiobook of Michelle Obama’s autobiography, Becoming.

So many books, so little time.
By the way, for all my fellow chocolate-chip cookie fanatics, according to Maida Heatter, the key to making the perfect chocolate-chip cookie is doubling the vanilla, and using chocolate bars cut into pieces, instead of chips. Then, pop the batter in the fridge.

Who wants to make these cookies with me??
Before we start, here’s this weekend’s reading, and yay! — there were LOTS of cat stories in the news!
- Good news! Your cat may not totally hate you. A new study by animal behavior researchers suggests that cats may bond to their people, just like dogs and babies do.
- You know you’re a crazy cat
ladydude when your cat is the best “man” at your wedding. - Meet Dr. Leon, an attorney who also just so happens to be a cat! His duties include welcoming guests to the office, and, being cute. Oh, and you know he’s official because he has a name badge. ??
- Estimates indicate that more than half of the indoor cats in the U.S. are overweight. While some kitties can self-regulate their food, most indoor cats need help keeping the pounds off.
- Kitties always find their way home — even plush toy kitties! Meet Plurna the cat, who went missing for 14 years but was recently found.
- The best makeup, hair and nails from Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020, according to Allure.
- Artificial skin is a thing.
- Apparently, baby pink nail polish is back. (Um…am I the only one out there who didn’t know it left?)
- Will somebody please explain to me why these Barbies look like Kardashians…
Happy fall, y’all!
Doing this ASAP.
I’ve been watching time management vids all week long.
Note to self…
I’m all about the 10-minute makeup life.
Have a wonderful weekend! ?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Important cat news from my house. Our aged black cat (she’s like 14 or 15 years old, we guess) has finally become a lap cat. We have two dachshunds and one has always given her a wide berth and proper respect but the other one is jealous of her and tries to head butt her out of the way when she gets attention. She has a big cat condo in the basement and used to spend all her time there. But for some reason, she’s found her courage and comes up everyday now to hang near the dogs and yowl to be in our laps. The world’s most aloof cat likes to cuddle in her dotage!
Oooh. Need to get to Homegoods for some kitty and Peanuts mugs! Save me one of those cookies please.
Hmm, didn’t need a scientific study to know that any of my cats had bonded to me. I totally want clothes from the Ralph Lauren/Friends 25th anniversary collection. Too bad the piece I want the most is made from haircalf (ugh, no) and costs $2,998 (why?). Wish it was faux fur and more affordable. Sigh.
Tbh without the Friends background, that collection doesn’t scream Friends and not even in a modernized way. So much grey and satin. Way to kill the joy Ralph lol
Oh, my goodness! Maida Heater! I have two of her books: The original one about cookies and the original one about chocolate. I think I need to go bake a cake ?
I got to snuggle my FAVORITE cat nephew Remington today. He lets you pick him up and hold him like a baby. He’s so sweet. He’s not smart but he’s full of love. My sister in law has offered to let me take him home but my husband says no. ?
I also saw one of my human great nephews – there are four of them! And his mom, my niece. We went to Cedar Point (if you’re not familiar, it’s an amusement park in Ohio known for roller coasters) so I’m sore and exhausted.
Cat lawyer is the only lawyer I trust.
While I love the idea of a Ralph Lauren Friends line, could the clothes look any less like Friends? Updated or otherwise, the only relevant piece I saw or read about was leather pants. ?
Do you sit and read cookbooks like novels? I thought it was just me.
Why, why, why do I click on the fashion week links? They always tick me off with their self-involved obliviousness. Whoever built a fashion show around the concept “military-inspired clothing with a twist of whimsy” should be forced to tour Dachau once a month for the next five years.
Hi Karen! First time commenting, and of course it’s about cookies, lol! If you’re making chocolate chip cookies, then you MUST try Alison Roman’s salted chocolate chunk shortbread. It’s the best recipe I’ve ever tried, and I used to be a die hard soft cookie fan! I’ve been making the recipe for almost a year now, and I can’t go back to making soft cookies, it’s THAT good!

I hope you had a great weekend! Totally agree on the chunky kitties cup! One of my friends has cats that are almost instantly obese when they come to live with her. She can’t free feed them. Our cats are all normal sized and we free feed. I think it definitely depends on the cat. Now I want to conduct the bonding test with my kitties. I feel like we’re bonded! 🙂 Oh, artificial skin. We just know where that’s going!!
