So, the movie, Oblivion, I hearted it much more than I expected. It was maybe a tad slow at times…but I thought it had some thought provoking ideas. I have to say, though, I’m a big sci-fi fan, so I unconsciously overlook plot holes sometimes.
Tom Cruise was, ya know, Cruisin’ it up, being his usual…efficient self. It’s weird, but that guy always has to sprint or run somewhere in his movies. Ever notice that? Maybe it’s written into his contract: “Mr. Cruise must run for a minimum of 200 yards at an all-out sprint for a total of no less than 20 seconds of screen time.” Haha.
I thought the special effects were great, with contrasting grimy elements and sparse, clean machines and empty landscapes. The CGI doesn’t look overly CGI, either. The whole thing looks like a cross between Bladerunner and Minority Report. And there are these unemotional, terrifying guard machines in it called drones that are scary like flying terminators!
In other news, El Hub did notice my eye makeup last night. Not specifically the blending, but he said, “Your makeup looks pretty,” which translates to everything I wanted to hear. 🙂

I am SO in. Just had about the worst night and day of my life. To list a few things that happened: boyfriend got so drunk last night that he had to be taken home by some mystery girl he met (great), he lost our laptop (not sure yet if we’ll ever find or get it back), got in a big fight with one of the neighbors because I used the laundry machine in the building without his permission (boyfriend had thrown up in our bed so it was an urgency…), accidentally dyed all the laundry pink because there was a red towel in there somewhere, and dropped (and broke) my new Chanel lipstick. All in less than 24 hours. And I am sure I am forgetting things…

Not a movie or book, but Roswell is my favorite sci-fi series. It’s this cross between sci-fi and romance, about a girl who falls in love with an alien. It sounds corny but the execution was really well done, it was filmed in the late 90s/early 00s so it has a nice nostalgic vibe to it if you watch it back and it’s made by the same guy who produced Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. Really loved that show

I thought I will never wear a dark pink or purple eye shadow. I always had the feeling will make me look like I’m sick. Last week for the first time I tried a purple one and I actually liked it a lot. Maybe because it such such a nice purple that I could not resist and thought it will be a great time to try it. I am not sure if I will ever try a deep pink or red on my eyelids, but for now I’m loving the purple.

Babylon 5 is my favorite show of all-time. Every time I finish watching it, I start it over again. I am a huge fan of sci-fi, but I find a lot of them lose the human element which is what makes us connect. Babylon 5 truly is a study in characters, with a sci-fi background. It’s about working through our differences to create a better future, all while facing the human nature to acquire power. Doing what is right instead of what is convenient. It’s got some similar elements to Star Trek, but much more human. They don’t live in this great society where everyone works for free and whatnot. They live in our world, people are still people and no one does anything without ulterior motives. The characters are fantastic and full-fleshed. It’s a show that makes me want to be part of something bigger than myself, and to be a better person. Shows like it don’t come along very often. It’s been off the air for nearly 15 years and I don’t know many people that even remember it… but if you haven’t watched it, please do. <3

Blue nail polish can be tricky, especially when you’re as pale as I am, because you look like you’re having severe breathing problems and turning blue. Lol. But a navy blue or a silvery blue could probably be okay.

I think the makeup in “Les Mis” was amazing. Yeah, all that dirt and grime was awesome (and blood…and just Hugh Jackman), but I did notice in the giant close ups of Amanda Seyfried’s face, she looked like she was wearing nothing, she just looked like a normal girl, which I love when movies do that.

I was at the Sephora in the Mall of America this afternoon and it was crazy busy, but I was able to survive the long line and purchased Cruella lip pencil by NARS. Can’t wait to sport it tomorrow…to the coffee shop! 😉
I watched 3 movies in a row.. My favorite funny dialogues were ” God made man, tailor made gentleman”! “When I ll show you my hip, u ll say hip hip hurray !” … If I don’t have to pay a penny then I ll definitely study Fashion & learn French.., I worked in a French company and I found the language very sugary … It’s my dream to learn photography as well.. !!

If I could go back to school and didn’t have to pay a dime for it, I would study theater/acting. I always had an interest in it, but I let my fear of being out there on the stage scare me. It may be as “useless” as majoring in English Literature and not being a teacher, but I’m sure I would have had fun and made lots of awesome friends. 🙁
I wore a grass green matte shadow today with a beige cream shadow base and it still stained my eye lids. Thanks MUFE. But, that just gave me a reason to stand on the steam shower for 10 more minutes. So it wasn’t the worst thing I have ever experienced makeup wise.
I try to never say never when it comes to makeup colors, but I’m not sure I could pull of red shadow without looking insane or ill!

Hi, Tabs and Karen! This is Maria from Boston, and I’m reporting that we’ve had a pretty tough week in the Hub :(. The past week has been full of emotion, stress, sleepless nights, and finally the capture of one of the suspects. I love your blog because it is so cheery, fun, and colorful! I’m a huge sf/fantasy nerd (my parents actually met at a science fiction convention, so I was doomed from the start). I just finished “The Year of the Flood” by Margaret Atwood, which is an amazing book and an excellent followup to “Oryx and Crake.” I probably shouldn’t have read it right after reading “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, though…hopefully the Nars blush in Sex Appeal that’s in the mail to me will get my mind off the impending apocalypse.
My fave green n/p at the moment is the Flower Beauty polish in Thistle or That. I get a lot of compliments on this and it wears very well.

If there’s a movie that exemplifies the power of makeup, it would be “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Just look at the way Rooney Mara’s character shifts from “anti-establishment” to “It Girl” and back. ’nuff said. 🙂
I am light skin with yellow and olive undertones which makes finding a foundation color a nightmare… Most foundations are not yellow enough…ugh!
Green + blue nail polish = fall French manicure. Revlon’s Fashionista or Chanel’s Blue Rebel as base and Revlon’s Emerald or OPI’s Jade is the New Black on the tips. I <3 this Malachite look on my nails.
I am blonde with green eyes and I look so stupid with blue eyeshadow, used to wear it when I was 11… Ugh, still don’t get why my mum let me go to school looking like that.

I have trouble wearing warm toned eyeshadows – yellow, orange, red, that sort of thing. I end up looking like there’s a fading bruise or like I have the flu. Bummer to lose half the color spectrum like that!

Turcoise & Caicos from Essie is my favorite blue/green nail polish.
Not a movie, but I loooove Stargate: SG-1. It ran for 10 seasons and got better with each, which is really cool because I find long-running shows tend to slacken after the first few seasons. Except this, and Breaking Bad. Ahhh, I miss Breaking Bad!

I don’t like blue, but I’ve been dying to try OCC Blackboard nail polish – it seems like a perfect blackened/dusty dark green.
My skin tone is almost totally neutral, just leaning *slightly* warm. My dad is German and very very cool/pink, and my mom is Mexican and very warm/olive, and I got something just about right in the middle. It’s great for lipstick and eye makeup since most colors don’t go too cool/warm on me, but it’s impossible to find foundation!
New GOT tonight, yay! I’m always curious to see what they’ll squish into one episode and what will just get cut.

THEY ARE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, EVERYDAY I WAKE UP AND I AM EXCITED TO ACTUALLY INTERACT WITH THEM AND MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE SOMEONE THERE FOR THEM. WHAT I WOULD DO IF I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING IS MAJOR IN HUMAN RESOURCE I REALLY WANT TO GO IN THIS FIELD NOT ONLY FOR THE CHILDREN BUT FOR THE EXPERIENCE THAT I LOVE DOING. I WOULD LOVE TO PURSUE IN WORKING WITH CHILDREN OR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE THEY ARE BY THEMSELVES AND JUST BY MAKING THEM SMILE MAKES MY WHOLE YEAR. Would love to work at the CDC on disease outbreak origins or maybe be a research pharacologist. Or work with Level 4 contageous diseases. I enjoy figuring things out.

Hi Karen! Glad to hear you’re having a great weekend. Mine has consisted of cleaning and trying to put bright colored claw covers on my cats. Unfortunately, one of them doesn’t like her kitty manicure. I think the Kelly green shade is lovely with her tuxedo colors, but she may prefer a classic red.
I’m also hitting up a CCO tomorrow and making notes of what I want to look for. Particularly, items from past MAC collections (like, say, maybe a lone Marilyn lipstick or beauty powder?) and Estée Lauder’s Violet Underground palette.
I can’t wait for the new Dior summer collection – the colors are so beautiful.

I saw Oblivion at a special screening Tuesday. They had a video chat with Tom & the writer afterwards. The reason tings didn’t look too CGI was because it wasn’t. They filmed the cloud scenes at the Antarctic with some special camera they literally got straight off the production line. Anyway I liked the movie and was willing to overlook how much “borrowing” was done from other sci fi movies.

My least favorite eye makeup (especially eye shadow) color is purple. Not because I can’t wear it but because people overhyped it– all while saying blues shouldn’t be worn.
I love lipsticks and eyeliner. I cant step outside without those two items.
Pink shadow is majorly unflattering on me.
Funnily enough, pink eyeshadow is a colour I can pull off. Just keep all yellows far far away from me!
Least favorite eye shadow color is burgundy, which looks like a bloody bruise….guess it’d be my go-to for the Zombie Apocalypse!

OMG! Where do I begin – going through high school with a lot of acne, I always thought my skin was cool-toned (because of the redness), and being broke in college all the time meant I paid little attention to my skin and what foundation I was using. As I got back into higher end makeup, I started realizing that I might be actually warm in my undertone but I just went into Sephora last night, and the makeup artist colormatched me as a neutral! haha go figure.
Watched Oz the Great and Powerful last week and could not stop fawning over Theodora’s makeup! I LOVE IT SO MUCH. And also Mila Kunis <3333
Ive actually never been to a spa! Never really felt like doing the body treatment thing (massages, skin treatments, etc) and my skin is so sensitive (breaks out to absolutely everything) that I was always terrified of what all those scented products and procedures would cause! haha am I missing out??

Sci-fi…I want to say Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.’s stuff. It was just so different from anyone else’s. Red Dwarf is the funniest sci-fi tv show…I’ve seen only parts of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
