December first already… Can you believe it? Christmas is this month!
It feels weird to say, and I’m not ready for it, either. Not at all.
The malls around here have been slowly but surely ramping up their holiday decorations and displays, but now that it’s December, they’re gonna go all out. Folks are gonna go buck wild at the mall, haaay! Get your hands off my votive candle, b*tch! I saw it first!!
I usually love this time of year, but I am not not ready for it yet… Heck, I’m still full from Thanksgiving!
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of pull with the calendar committee, if you know what I mean. They’re not exactly waiting for my approval out here in Novato (“Alright, let’s do this! Karen says it’s okay!”), so I guess I better get with the program.

I recently purchased some of the Blackheart polishes from Hot Topic, as well as their black glitter liner, sour lime eyeshadow, and melodrama lipstick which is a lovely shade of dark purple (my husbands new favorite color on me). The eyeshadow surprised me a great deal in its coverage, long lastingness <– that is now a word. And the fact that it was just as bright on my skin as it was in its package.
No holiday parties for me.

For my drugstore pick, I’ve been enjoying the mega plush maybelline mascara. It’s really light and comfortable to wear. It doesn’t make my lashes look very dramatic, but it doesn’t get hard and stiff either. It’s a good for low key days.
Zeal & I are having my parents, & maybe their dog, at our apt for the first time this year. They won’t be here all day, because we’re really just doing dinner & dessert. I might wear my Xmas tee (it’s a dusty sea foam green/aqua with a white kitty & an orange kitty under mistletoe… it’s such a cool & different Xmas tee and you would love it ;-)) with my ‘around the house’ wine zip up hoodie sweater. Don’t know about pants, but it will either be a pair of my more special comfy flannel pj bottoms (which I wear around the house all the time) or maybe the new teal skinny jeans cords I’m waiting for from Old Navy (depends on if they fit and how comfy they are). I rarely wear makeup for around the house, but maybe I’ll just put a wash of a colored shadow on my eyes and a lip gloss on… and nail polish, of course.

I’d say my favorite drugstore beauty buy this year are the L’Oreal Infallible eye shadows. I’d never seen anything like them when they came out and I have a bunch of them now. My favorite is liquid diamond. It’s a beautiful lavender that I think would look good on anybody.
As for the holidays, I’m not a big party person, but I was thinking of going skiing again. It’s been ages since I have. I ride horses competitively, and I think skiing actually uses some of the same leg muscles and it would be a good supplement. I’d have thighs of steel if I was able to ski on a regular basis!
I’ve never skied or snowboarded!
My fave makeup look this week is dark green eyeshadow with gold on the inner third of my eyelid.
I just realized that, with the 3 discounts I got from sephora this fall, I ordered the same skin care product 3 times. Today, I finally finished the Cal King button-tufted padded headboard I have been working on/constructing/upholstering for 2 months!!!! What a project, but I am done at last and it is gorgeous. Now, I just have to figure out how to get it home from the Home Decor Learning Center (in Concord, CA) since it won’t fit in my Suburu Forrester. And with this rain we’re having I can’t tie it to the roof rack. The weather peeps say to batten down the hatches because tomorrow morning is going to be a drowner–with you Karen and Tabs being in Novato (Marin) you might want to plan on staying in for the day–you all will be getting drenched!

I bought myself an early Christmas gift, an ADORABLE folding bike!! I love it so much. I already named it Pli (which is French for ‘fold’) going to try to incorporate a daily bike ride for a portion of my work commute.
And snowboard vs skiing..I wish I could snowboard, I tried and wound up with a black and blue left buttcheek. I stick to skiing the bunny slope all day. I ski like a slowpoke but I love it.

I grew up in a country with warm climate all year round. Hot and sunny weather = no snow. So being a college student here in the US gave me the opportunity to experience winter. 🙂 I’ve only been skiing once so I spent most of my time falling on my butt or trying to get up. But, it was still an enjoyable experience and I’d love to go again this winter!

I drank eggnog for the first time today and it was a bit strong. I said aloud, “Is there alcohol in eggnog?” and some old guys I didn’t know snorted and said “yes, there is” in a rather sardonic manner. They made me feel like such a newbie!

After finally completing my grad school app yesterday, I treated myself to two things: ordered the UD Naked Basics from their site, and went for a pedi. After the pedi when I was at the drying station, they had the OPI Germany collection sitting there and I tested Berlin There, Done That – and loved it. I went to evilbay and ordered straight away.
Just got some of that Tatcha gentle exfoliant. My face is so soft! They’re having 20% off thru 12/4, BTW.

I tried a holiday-inspired eyeshadow combo this week that turned out to be really pretty. I used shimmery silver and cranberry with a little deep plum at the outer corner.
My favorite items from the drugstore are Milani blushes and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer. I happily reach for these products over some of the more pricey stuff.
I’ve been expanding my lip color collection this year with mainly drugstore brands and so far have not been disappointed.
My makeup has been pretty bland this week! Finals at school, wahhhh!

I’ve been adding to my Stanford-themed manicure every week for a few weeks now – it’s my superstition for the end of the college football season. I started with a cardinal red base for week one (China Glaze Adventure Red-y), added two glitter accent stripes on my left hand the second week (China Glaze Glistening Snow), then put a rose-shaped decal for the Pac-12 Championship game (since the winner goes to the Rose Bowl). It seems to have worked, yay! Now I just have to think of something creative to do for the actual Rose Bowl game…
I painted my nails a festive red, and then I took a soak in my friend’s hot tub the next day. When I emerged the polish was half gone. So, don’t do that.
Trying out two different primers – Hourglass mineral primer and Korres antiaging primer. I like them both but the Hourglass seems to stay flawless looking a lot longer.
Wearing a dark purple from E.L.F. on my nails. It goes on so smooth and rich, despite the cheap price tag.

Favorite makeup this week has been stand-out, notice-me lip color. Generally have been using a NYX jumbo lip pencil for base layer with MAC Cremesheen glass on top. Have a variety in each color, and love to mix and match them.

Regrettably, when you become The Mom, Christmas is stressful and a lot of work, not just fun and magical. Nobody spends any time wracking their brains figuring out exactly what I want and while I love drawings and clay paperweights, I really want cashmere socks and a new wallet.

Best drugstore product is l’oreal million lashes. It’s amazing. Definitely in the top 3 best mascaras I’ve ever used.
I’m not quite over Thanksgiving either, so I’m wearing a cranberry color on my nails. Later this week though, I plan to do green sparkles (OPI’s Fresh Frog of Bel-air from last year’s Muppets collection). I like doing green instead of red since it’s a less common choice.

I am going to a holiday party at my husband’s work. I have never met most of these people so it’s kinda stressful, lol.
I had a good weekend, still pretty sick but on Saturday I went out with my friends to celebrate my birthday (it’s coming up on the 6th, yay!) and that was a lot of fun and I was off on Sunday 🙂 me and hubby put up Christmas lights outside. The house looks quite festive 🙂
