1. Terrifically tiny
You’d think that most people would find miniature versions of makeup products mildly aggravating, because why have less when you can have MOAR? But the daintiness of diminutive perfume bottles, lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes like the NARS Wanted Mini Eyeshadow Palette have me hoarding all teh tiny treasures.

So what if they aren’t always practical? — especially the tiny tubes of mascara. (My hands suddenly seem Shrek-sized when I’m holding one of those tiny wands.) They’re just so darned cute.

I was looking at some of Connor’s tiny toys the other day and remembered how I used to love small doll-sized things when I was a kid. Apparently, I still like tiny treasures.
2. I like to torture myself with terrible movies.
If the dialogue sounds like it was written by a stoner eating Twinkies and Doritos at 3 a.m., I’m so there. Also, count me in if it involves an ex-reality TV star playing a zombie who, against all odds, saves the earth from alien invasion. But, duuuuuuude, key point: It’s not like I actually enjoy any of it! I’ll start up the movie, then see how long I can bear it before I can’t take it anymore and either need to change the channel or run out the front door screaming.
I dunno… For some reason this makes me feel stronger — like it’s the equivalent of mental weightlifting?

3. I like to imagine people with Instagram brows.
Babies, politicians, the sweaty checkout guy at Target who scans all of the stuff I got from the dollar bin that Marie Kondo would disapprove of — everyone I see is fair game if they’re rocking a set of “normal/natural” brows. I’ll then mentally cut and paste a pair of blocky, dark Insta-brows on them and try not to giggle.
Conversely, whenever I see someone with Instagram brows, I’ll mentally swap them out for natural brows.
This is extra fun in airports, by the way! ?

4. I also like to imagine all of the parents at preschool functions as partying 20-somethings.
Specifically, I like to pretend they’re all up in the club, hella drunk and doing the things single 21-year-olds do in loud and crowded spaces. I do this any time I’m surrounded by other parents, and it’s endlessly amusing to me.
5. I like to stand in the shower and win fake arguments.
While I’m washing my hair and exfoliating and doing the yoozh in the shower, I’ll reflect upon “heated conversations” I’ve had (or want to have) with friends or family or the cranky-pants who stole my parking space at Costco, and I’ll rework them in my mind so that I can get in that snappy comeback that of course occurred to me as I was walking away.

El Hub always wonders why I spend so much time in there, and I’m like, duuuuuuuuude, now you know!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

LOL These posts always crack me up.
That mini NARS palette looks really, really pretty.
Thanks, friend!
The palette is very on-trend with the reds and coppers, although I wonder sometimes if cool tones will ever come into fashion!
Right?! I know so many cool-toned people who are frustrated. I love warm tones, and even I’m getting sick of seeing them everywhere.
I love tiny cosmetics. It takes me too long to get through full-sized products so I feel less wasteful of the product itself; although, the packaging on such small amounts is wasteful and does weigh on my conscience. Everything is encased in evil plastic. 🙁
You can add Instagram brows to your 20-yo party goer opponents in the Shower Debates. 🙂
I wish more brands would do refills like Kjaer Weis, sigh.
And ha ha ha… That’s one too many layers in the Matrix for me!
OMG WHY DID I VISIT THE WEBSITE, WHY
Not to be your pusher or anything but LOOOOOOOK.
I’m glad/not glad you linked this review, Karen. I remember reading it but its implications did not sink in just then.
We have same skin tone, you look wonderful in it and I’ve been looking for a cream blush (and environmentally conscious one at that!) so yeah there goes my birthday money. lol
I had to toss mine a while back because it expired and was smelling kinda funny, but I have it on my “to buy again” list.
Their foundation is really good, too!
I love minis and smaller palettes. When your makeup collection is rather large but you still like to buy makeup, it just makes more sense to add a mini. Plus I like to try things without fully committing. For ex, setting powders. I had KVD and Cover FX travel size setting powders and they took me a long time to finish. Right now I’m working through some pressed powders but I want to try Laura Mercier and Hourglass so minis are the way to go! The pressed powders are NOT minis and it is taking so longggg! I am also working through some mascaras and when I’m done, I think I will just stick to minis. Mascara you have to replace so frequently so it makes sense! ?
I LOVE minis! I spend so much time at Ulta and Sephora looking at the trial size section! And mini mascaras are great! But there’s a lot of times I don’t finish items so minis are great for me.
I also win arguments in the shower, and when I’m driving alone too!
I am a very big fan of the deluxe sample sizes. They’re so great for traveling and allow me to try lots of products without spending a fortune. Or anything really since, you know, they’re free samples. HAHA! Your shower arguments made me laugh. I think everyone has those mental conversations, especially when you were a second too late with the snappy comeback. Which is weird because I also rework the arguments when I did deliver the zinger and wish that I would have been kinder and more patient. Can never be pleased. 🙂
I, too, win arguments in the shower with witty, cogent, devastating rejoinders, and my adversary always changes her mind and apologizes. I also figure out how to answer my kids’ questions like “Did you smoke pot in college?” and “Why shouldn’t I get a tattoo?”
And I love tiny cosmetics – I don’t have the money or storage space for dinner-plate-size bronzers and 20-pan eyeshadow palettes. I love tiny mascaras, espcially free ones, because I usually use waterproof but I like to have non-waterproof on hand for occasional use. Sephora almost always has a sample mascara in either the Beauty Offers or the Rewards Bazaar. Doesn’t work for blush, foundation, lipstick etc. because you usually can’t choose the color. A sample of “Honey Beige” concealer or fuschia lipstick is useless to my boring, conservative NW15 self.
I really wish foundations came in mini bottles – if you mix colors, or change with the seasons, or have a “special-occasion” or “bad skin day” foundation, it’s hard to buy and store very many regular size bottles and sometimes they go bad before you can use them up.
Hi Rebecca,
Your mini foundation idea is genius. I would be all over that in heartbeat as I’m a foundation hoarder/enthusiast!
Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!
I think INSTYLE featured a teeny tiny handbag. Round w a zipper . Purple and not big enough for me.
But I love tiny objects too. I was too old for Barbie but my daughter had her and her junk all over the yard . My son made her a pool skimmer w tennis racket and a chopstick !
Girl, minis are my jam! I adore them. I also adore teeny tiny kitchen implement minis that are basically useless except for hanging on a kitchen Christmas tree. Usually I find these things at the checkout at my favorite gourmet food store.
Also, torturing myself with terrible movies, also so me. If it’s something that a 13-year-old boy would love, I’m so there. I have a 16-year-old boy now and his tastes in film are starting to outgrow mine.
American Shorthair Hustle…cannot stop laughing.
Add me to the mini craze! Started with perfumes, now tiny toys, little glass beakers (great for M&Ms), pens, note pads. whatever . . at least they don’t take up much room. They give me joy!
Also, weeks ago I bought some Brie, then stored it in the frig and just got it out to eat earlier this week. Lo and behold, it’s Marin French Cheese . . best Brie ever; bought two more yesterday. Just sayin’ . .
Love the shorthair pic

i prefer travel size myself reason being i rarely use up anything i am light handed with my makeup some items i have probably need to be tossed to be honest, most all i get now is from my sephora play or other boxes and i prefer travel size mascara now for real i can’t seem to control a full sized wand anymore LOL i believe they should have travel version on every site to buy they may see it as less money but i see it as equal or more because if a mascara is 22$ for example i would buy a 11 $ mascara & a 11$ lipstick but that is me , i am a definite makeup hoarder i have some palettes that are 6 yrs old !! and i have been in a deep depression and impulse buying i got brand new makeup i haven’t used since my rut , and i am a weird awkward person most have a certain order they put makeup on, i use to be the same way now i find myself beginning with my lips LOL i find myself in a confusion a lot lately even more which i am my fathers caretaker he is terminal and it has took a toll on me horribly a weird fact which is a gross fact to most i love to watch pimple popping !!
I love mini’s. Mini skincare for traveling! Some mascaras I only buy in the mini version because they dry out so quickly I end up tossing the full size anyway because of the change in consistency. I believe all skincare and foundations should come either in a mini size for travel (or for sampling instead of getting one of those messy pots made in-store for a sample) or they should come with an empty 5-10mL bottle that you can refill on your own.
I love the little mini Tom Ford lipsticks that are sometimes in sale give aways. But I also love the Lips&Boys sized lipsticks.
That NARS palette is cute. Too bad it is warm toned. Not buying another warm toned palette that just doesn’t work with my complexion.
I love mini makeup and I want more of it! I don’t like some full size products because I will just never go through them. I have so many great highlighters, blushes, and eyeshadows which I will never finish (before they’re too old) and it’s such a waste. I am totally on board with mini makeup! I also like mini’s of stuff so I can it out and decide if I like it, or I can toss it in my purse! (Thank you MAC for making a mini Fix+!).
Oh and perfumes too! I really wish there were more mini’s of perfumes.
