When was the last time you got a makeover?
I’ve had three since February. The first was at Sephora for Valentine’s Day, and the second for a Bobbi Brown Master Class at Saks. Both were lots of fun, and I learned so much and left feeling happy.
My most recent makeover was about two weeks ago at a Nordstrom Pretty Party.
The gal who did my makeup was sweet, but I wasn’t crazy about the finished look. I think we just had vastly different styles.
The foundation was a few shades too light and a little too beige (so my skin looked gray), and then it was set all over with an iridescent sparkly powder (hello, pores). She also skipped filling in my brows and applying under-eye concealer, two things I always do before leaving the house, even if I’m just going out in the front to get the mail.
On the bright side, it was a learning experience. Next time I go in for a makeover, I plan to bring extra cleansing wipes and a bag of emergency makeup just in case it doesn’t turn out quite the way I hope it does.
When was the last time you got a makeover? Did you like it? How did it turn out?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

You look so beautiful and summery in this photo. I have never gotten a make over!
Thanks, lady! It sure feels like summer here in NorCal today.
Getting made up is fun. Maybe next time you visit the Chanel counter? 🙂
Maybe 🙂 Btw, I meant to ask you, what Is your favorite face primer? I’m in the market for a new one.
OMG you are beautiful, honestly no make over yet for me !
Hi Dominique,
Thanks, sweets. It’s the makeup; Temperature Rising’s good stuff!
I can’t believe you’ve never gone in for a makeover. Not even once at the Chanel counter?
I think the last one… was maybe an impromptu one with Nars’ fall colors? I wanted to check out the eye shadow and one thing led to another and I hauled a bunch of skincare and that GORGEOUS paprika red shadow…
The worst one I got was from an Elizabeth Arden counter in a drug store in Canada. She… made me look like a middle-aged country singer. When I told her, dude, I look like a South Asian Shania, she took it as a huge compliment. I hid my face under a hat on the bus ride home and scrubbed it off ASAP.
Hi Indoorkitty,
You crack me up! 🙂
Ahhh look at the feather earrings! <3
I can't remember the last time I got a makeover. I did attend a Bobbi Brown workshop at the end of last summer. I like how I got to follow the steps instead of just sitting there and having things done. That way I always learn more! The artist also picked a really nice raspberry lipstick for me (Razzberry Creamy Matte Lip Color), so I was super happy with the result!
Yeah, I have to keep the earrings away from Tabs. He looooves them!
I love the summery vibe in that pic, Karen! I’m super scared of make-overs, I’m a bit of a control freak, so it’s really hard for me, lol! I modelled a few times for a make-up class and they did some looks that I really loved. I learned that purple shades really brighten up my complexion and the whole thing was just really interesting!
You mean gray, glittery skin wasn’t the look you were hoping for, Karen? ; )
Gee, by coincidence, my last makeover was about two weeks ago, too! LOL
By the way, that brings up a question. When I had my makeover, the girl applied my cream blush with a brush. I usually just use my fingers but I really liked the result. Since I had my glasses off I didn’t see what type of brush she used and didn’t think to ask. What kind of brush would you suggest for cream blushes? Would it have to be one with firmer bristles? I’m intrigued enough to try it.
OMG! Girlfriend, can you give a breakdown of what your wearing from the temperature rising collection? Those eyes, cheeks and lips! You look so gorg!!!
To be honest, I’ve never gotten a make-over. I don’t have a lot of trust in how hygienic other people are… but that’s just me, personally…
It’s probably been a few years, while I worked at Macy’s… I have a coupon for a free makeover at Sephora, so maybe I’ll have to indulge!
Karen, you look GORGE in that pic! The last time I had a makeover was two years ago. I am turning the big 4-0 on Saturday, so, it may be time for another one! 🙂
You gorgeous thing, you!
I got a makeover a few weeks ago (my first ever) at the Lancome counter… I went with my aunt and she looked great, but the woman who made me up gave me spider lashes (on purpose!) It kinda scared me away but you look so fabulous here, maybe I’ll give it another shot.
I sometimes get my makeup done. Just every once in a while, I like letting makeup artists have fun. Vibrant colors and such.
I hate having makeover at counters! I always end up looking really OLD. I avoid them if at all possible.
Probably one of the most beautiful pictures I’ve seen of you yet XD
I love your earrings as well! (ahhh i realize I’m a tad off topic and this has nothing to do with makeup but I just wanted to let you know Karen :))

months months back… i wanna get one on my bro marri soon 🙂
My last makeover experience was last year at the MAC store in SoHo. All I can say is that I basically ran to the subway and ran home so I could take it off. And I wear a lot of makeup everyday, but this was just too much.
It was a couple of years ago at Neiman Marcus, some Master makeup artists from Chanel had come in from NY and were doing appointments for a couple days. My end look was ok, I didn’t care for the eye makeup. He had pick a reddish-purple quad that sort of made me look sick, then hardly used any liner or mascara (I have really fine lashes, so I ALWAYS wear two coats of volumizing mascara just so you can see I have lashes). But I did like the lip products! I ended up buying a pretty pink lip gloss.
Oh, bummer about the last makeover. I had my makeup done for my wedding, which was like 12 years ago and I think that’s pretty much the extent of my makeovers. 🙂
I dislike getting touched by strangers- it is why I DIY my own nails and avoid makeovers and haircuts, even. Last one I got was at Neiman’s when a Laura M lady was visiting. I liked it ok but it didn’t look any different from what I can do myself. Disappointed that I didn’t learn much. I wanted to learn tightlining from her and she didn’t spend much time with me on it.
I’d love to get a MakeOver, but I’m terrified of makeup (especially eye makeup-
mascara!) that has been used on other people. Does anyone else have this problem?
I’ve had a few makeovers in recent years. Two at Sephora, one at Belk and one at Nordstrom. I’ve never really enjoyed the experience as I always walk away feeling like I could have done a better job (and my eyes always tear up from the liner and mascara application). The last makeover I had she did not use any concealer!
Part of me wishes I could be a makeup artist. I hope to take a master class from Chanel one day. BTW, you look very pretty in the pic.
You look beautiful.
The last time I got a makeover was for a friend’s wedding where I was the maid of honour. Mine was done at Shoppers Drug Mart. The make up artist went all out and my makeup was very dramatic. I loved it.
You look gorg chica!!! Love the pic!!! Well I never had a MO… It’s not very common where I live 😉
Last fall I got one at the standalone MAC near me. The artist just asked if I wanted one because she was bored and she liked my hair (it’s blue). She was very nice, but I came out looking like an Oompa-Loompa ladyboy – orange and sparkly, with tons and tons of dramatic lavender-and-black layering on the eyes and no lip products of any kind. Yikes. I bought an eyebrow pencil (which is what I was there for anyway) and ran away to wash it off.
