Blackened matte red lips were my “going out” lip color in the mid-’90s, and I still lurve them, but back then I couldn’t just whip out a matte red tube of magic from my makeup bag, like BAM! There was a lengthy process involved.
First, I had to line my lips with a matte black eyeliner. Next, I had to fill them in with said liner, and finish with one, or sometimes two, meticulously applied layers of my red lipstick du jour.
On the occasions when the lipstick wasn’t matte enough for me, I would then dust a layer of loose matte powder on top.
I knew I had it right when I looked like a vampire ? who’d just eaten a few people for dinner but forgot to wipe her lips.
This ravishing blackened matte red is the result of two products…and neither one is an eyeliner! I’m wearing MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick in Carnivorous and MAC Mahogany Lip Pencil.
Ah, kids today! They’ll never know the trials and tribulations we endured in the pursuit of the perfect vampy red lip.

I love these! Blackened red lips are some of my favorite for going out. I got a sample of a really nice burgundy Fenty Beauty lipstick as a 100 point from Sephora that is pretty nice.

I had to do all the same things back then. And dusting loose powder on top is not fun it is drying and may lead to coughing which leads to your mascara smudging. Been there, done that!

I feel like, even though these colors are super dramatic, they’re weirdly universal! I don’t really know anyone who can’t pull off a color similar to this.

I love this look on you and, you know I’m stuck in the 90s for lip color, so I think it’s awesome. My version is the vastly toned down Black Honey but, you know, sort of similar. 😉 I didn’t get a chance to dig through my stash yesterday for the nude lipstick/red gloss combo. It was like I was hit by the Crazy Train and then it backed over me a few times when I left work last night! HAHA!

Oh, gosh, yes – sorry! It was just a bunch of running for the fellas/their high school hockey team. Nothing bad at all, just busy in a really short time frame. And I’m the type who almost never uses the phone so, to have it ringing 3 times in 10 minutes was quite wild. HAHA!
