Ya know, I’m looking at this palette from the new MAC Jeremey Scott collection, and it’s dawning on me that…I don’t think I have a legit CD player in my house anymore.
There’s one in my Mazda…and I think I might have an external USB one somewhere for my computer…but that’s it. I don’t think I have a regular old music CD player anywhere, and I guess that’s a good thing, because I can totally see myself trying to force-feed this blush palette into it, either by accident, as I mistake it for my Prince mix and push “Play” a bunch of times and, after hearing no sound come out, curse all the technology that has ever existed, or, on purpose, out of morbid curiosity. 🙂
The MAC Jeremy Scott Cheek X3: Acoustica palette CD packaging looks so real, though! When I turned it over, I half expected to see scratches on the back.
The palette is $35 and part of a new ’90s music-themed MAC collab collection with designer Jeremy Scott, who has his own clothing line and also designs for big brands like Adidas and Moschino.
His style is kinda out there… Like, if the Care Bears were club kids in the world of the Fifth Element (fun fact: Jean Paul Gaultier designed the costumes for that movie). The clothes are colorful, cheeky, retro-futuristic, and often ’80s and ’90s nostalgic.
The Acoustica LE palette, which is one piece in the three-piece collection, has powder blush, bronzer and a highlighter.
1. The highlighter is hella “blinged out.”
It’s a stark frosty beige-white with large grains and glitter pieces. When I sweep a little on my upper cheek bones, Martians are able to see my smile lines from space…
If I just sat around with a RBF all day long, this would be fine, but I’m not about to mug like that for 12 hours. I gotta smile, man! I gotta smile! ?
2. The bronzer has a slightly gray undertone.
It’s one of those with finely milled powders that goes on looking all toasty and deliciously golden brown…but over time a gray undertone comes through.
If you’re going for a sharp, sculpted look with cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass, I think it could look very cool, but I tend to prefer a more diffused bronzer look for my face.
After wearing this for a few hours, I think my face looks…dirty, for lack of a better word.
3. The blush is bomb.
It’s satiny, smooth and my favorite thing about this palette. I think it looks a little like MAC Fleur Powder Blush.
Really, this palette is all about the packaging, and no doubt, it’s cute and original. If you’re a MAC collector, this is a must, because they didn’t pull any punches when they designed the packaging.
Be that as it may, though, IMO, when it comes to the business of sculpting, highlighting and adding color to cheeks, I can think of other similarly priced palettes that do it better. The BECCA Chrissy Tiegan (it’s still available on the BECCA site!) is one, and even though it’s a little more expensive, I think the bronzer and highlighter are more flexible, flattering and easier to use than these.
I’d steer you in that direction if you were looking for a versatile, wearable everyday cheek palette to wear with lots of different looks.

Happy Valentine’s! The packaging is outstanding. I love the cassette tape. This will definitely appeal to children of the 80s and 90s. Can I just say how much I want those furry leg warmers (or perhaps they’re part of the boots)? They’re quite bright but they look SOOOO warm. 🙂 I thought the blush was really pretty on you. Glad to hear you liked it the best of the bunch.
Red lip update: Today is Bobbi Brown Raisin; yesterday was Clinique Berry Cream (I think that was the name). So, I’m right back in my wheelhouse of berries and browns. Technically, there is red in them. 😉

Glad to know I can save my money on this one. Although, it’s tough cuz I’m feeling that packaging. And I still have hella CD’s in my house – my husband makes fun of me but I have zero f*cks to give, I love the nostalgia of it all!

My red of the day: KVD Misfit – going on 2 days in a row. Thanks for your 14 days of reds, I’ve been pulling out a few deep lip colors that haven’t got much play in a while. Misfit is my new favorite, like a brown, brick red. It’s very 90’s – right in my wheel house!
Girl, I have them all over the place! Mostly in my car though. Isn’t it weird that our daughters will never use tapes or CDs? It’s crazy to me!
And yay for getting back into the red groove! I’m also on a ’90s kick… Aren’t those brown-reds the best? (P.S. I hope you have MAC Paramount.)
OMG Paramount – haven’t worn that in a minute. Dubonnet was my jam, too! I wore that constantly in ’93 when I worked at Ann Taylor cuz all my cool older coworkers wore that shade. I miss the 90’s!
Ya know, I never thought I’d say this, but I do too. It was a time where I went through so much emotionally but I miss the freedom and possibility of my teens and early 20s.

I make CDs out of my MP3’s so that I have a semi-permanent (CDs don’t last forever, but they’re more trustworthy than an MP3 file) version to keep. I don’t trust electronic devices like computers to keep my data for a significant amount of time. I really hope they don’t stop making CDs. If they do, then there would be no reason for “albums” anymore – musicians could just release one song at a time. Maybe we’d have better music if they’d concentrate on one song in a year, instead of 12?
The packaging is really cute! The colors look really pretty on you.
In my house we’re pretty old school. My husband used to work in a music store so he’s got tons of CDs, cassettes and even some video tapes! We still have a VCR and a stereo with a tape deck somewhere that is collecting dust. Maybe one day I’ll donate them to a 90s museum. 🙂

Pretty much the same. I’m going to HIIT tonight, and perhaps afterwards we’ll all get ice cream? Most likely we’ll pass out after the baby goes down, LOL!

I like the first one, I have a big problem applying bronze, I think I dont have the hand on it yet.
I think it helps to start with a light hand and a big, fluffy brush. Also take pics on your phone! Use a flash. The pics will tell you if your bronzer is even, or if you’re applying it too low or to high on the cheekbones. 🙂

You may want to go with a face brush with a smaller brush head and a slightly rounded shape. Something like the MAC 109 might work for you.

I have SO many tips. Let’s start, though, with what you need help with. Does the shadow end up looking patchy? Or do you have trubs getting the gradient?
I love the packaging on this collection. This cheek palette looks nice, but I could never wear that bronzer shade.
I was really lusting over the boombox eye palette, but all the swatches I’ve seen look so horrible that I’m passing on that, too. It makes me sad, because the packaging is awesome. I know MAC can do better versions of the colors in it. 🙁
It’s one of those palettes that swatches terribly on the arms, but does better once you get it on lids.
