My new motto for the next few weeks, months and possibly years is to “wear glitter, and wear it everywhere, because you never know when the world will unexpectedly grind to a halt because of a pandemic.”
(Hmm, that probably won’t translate well onto a bumper sticker…)
One of the coolest things about the new MAC Frosted Firework holiday collection IMO is the oh-so-sparkly Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadows ($21).
I’m wearing a few things from the LE launch in this — peachy nude glimmer Sparktacular, along with a highlighter used as a crease color, a dual-ended pencil liner, and a lipstick and lipgloss.
I think you’ll like it if you’re into the shiny stuff. Sparktacular and the other Foils have a soft powder base that feels almost like a cream, and they’re packed with small- and medium-sized pieces of glitter. I think the easiest and best way to apply them is to load a clean finger, then pat or gently swipe it across your lids (this minimizes the fallout, and the pressure from your figure intensifies the glossiness). The result is the wet, shiny, glossy effect I have here on my eyes.
Some might say it’s a tad too dramatic for dropping off and picking up a four-year-old from preschool, but heck, it’s 2020. If we can wear pajamas everywhere, we can do whatever we want with glitter.
Crazy for horses
Ever since Connor rode a horse for the first time last month, we’ve all been a little horse crazy ’round here.
Over the holiday break, we went hiking at the Indian Valley Preserve, one of our favorite spots in town, in the hopes that we’d spot a horse on a trail, and we did!

We also said hello to a few of the horses who live at the stable down the street.
The gold horse was a little obsessed with CoyCoy and kept staring at her like he knew her! My guess is that he knows a special little girl, and Connor reminded him of her.
In other news…do you have Disney Plus? If you do, there’s a new movie out called Black Beauty (a remake of the O.G. film). I never saw the original, and I really didn’t know anything going into it other than the fact that there was a horse in it, so I fired it up last weekend thinking that it would be a lighthearted Disney movie about a kid and her horse…
DUDE, I couldn’t have been more wrong!
It was seriously one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen. El Hub and I bawled like babies through the entire thing.
El Hub and have been randomly recalling sad moments from it and mentioning them at odd times. “Poor Ginger!” or “That mean farmer!” or “TERRY!” I’m still getting teary.
Connor was the only one who made it though the movie without having a minor emotional breakdown! LOL.

The OG Black Beauty was and remains one of Dear Daughter’s favorite films. She’s reluctant to see the remake as she’s afraid it will spoil the original for her.
Sounds like Connor may be coming down with a case of “equinitis”. It’s when you come in contact with horse hair or dander and you become obsessed with horses forever! Lol. Both Dear Daughter and I have a chronic case of it.
Oooh! I’m liking the look of Sparktacular. The one this I dislike about masks is they cover your mouth and lipstick is really my favorite makeup item. I wear mascara because it improves the look of my lashes, but I wear lipstick for the fun of all the colors! The lipsticks from this collection just shout out “Holiday!” to me. I love bright reds and pinkish reds for this time of year.
I think we’re both afflicted. The only person who doesn’t have it is El Hub! So, funny story. When we first got married, one of the older gentlemen who he worked with said, “I have only piece of marital advice for you. NEVER BUY YOUR WIFE A HORSE.” LOL!
Lovely swatches. Although I sometimes feel Mac comes with similar shades, especially with their lipsticks, their holiday collection still excites me.

“Black Beauty” movies have to be mostly sad because the book was written to bring attention to the often terrible lives horses had in the pre-automobile era. The book actually did make society wake up and make some laws about the welfare of horses.
I, too, am a major fan of horses but have never been in a position money or land-wise to own one. If I ever got one I would prefer to keep it on my own land. (Back in the ’70s there were many cases of horses being stolen or shot when kept on rural, mostly unsupervised land.)
Yeah, Dear Husband does not have equinitis either. I’m lucky that no one gave my Dear Husband that marital advice. I will admit it does take an arm and a leg and then some to keep a horse in the Bay Area. Didn’t used to be like this. Before you could be a working student and get a decent horse off the track, etc. Now it’s rare to find trainer in this area willing to trade lessons for work or one who isn’t pushing you to buy the fanciest, most expensive imported horse when there are plenty of domestic horses. Sigh.
I’ve been watching “The Crown” with Dear Daughter and I wouldn’t trade my life for theirs in anyway except one. I’d love to be able to have all the beautiful horses that family has. Oh! and a nice large estate to ride them on. Lol.
I initially purchased “Let it glow” highlighter and the brown/black dual eyeliner. I like the eyeliner but ended up returning the highlighter. It wasn’t for me. Chunky glitter does not suit me. I was wary to purchase anything else since there are so few reviews of this collection online. I think MAC needs to switch things up a bit for holiday? Not everything, head to toe, needs to be steeped in glitter.
Ah, yes. The horse phase. I sure had that stage when I was a youngster. It lasted quite a few years. I had so many books and toys, all about horses. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances, there was no way for me to enjoy riding lessons except once or twice for my birthday.
The glow in this look is gorgeous!
I grew up on a big plot in the middle of nowhere- our closest neighbor had horses and a few times they broke out of their barn and romped around our yard for a while before being caught. My friend maybe a mile or so down the street had some too, I’d ride my bike down there. I don’t love riding horses but I like patting them and giving them carrots.
Wow, that’s incredible! I grew up in the ‘burbs and can only imagine what it must’ve been like to see a renegade horse in your front yard.

KAREN! Did I not tell you about Black Beauty? We still refer to “ugly cry/OMG did someone suddenly die?” bawling to “Black Beauty”. I can’t even think about it. When the Hubs and I first started dating, I would get home about 15 minutes before him. I switched on the TV and Black Beauty was on. By the time he got home, he literally thought there had been a real-life tragedy. He was like “OMG, what happened?” and I was able to point at the TV and sputter out “Black Beauty”. I’ll never forget his face. HAHA! He was like “I thought someone died… you’re like this over a MOVIE?… and, wait, you’ve only been watching for 15 minutes!!!!”. HAHA! It took me right back to seeing it as a kid and how heart breaking it is. I haven’t seen the remake but the original was just brutal. 🙁 On a happier note, horses are the best. I’m glad Connor has found a horsey soulmate close by! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I can 100% see that scenario going down because I was seriously such a mess by the end credits! I am mildly curious about the original film and I kinda want to watch it but I also kind of don’t.
And yes, horsey soulmates are the best. We’re lucky in that we have several places to see them in town. Once, while we were on a trail, a guy on his horse came galloping down a hill, and we got to talking to him for a bit while his horse took a quick break. He even let me sit on top of the horse and ride along for a bit!
I feel like the original has none of the niceties of a “Disney” movie (not saying the remake does, since I haven’t seen it); it’s brutal and gut-punching. I know I’m not selling it but if you watch, let me know what you think. I’m curious about how they compare.
It’s so great that you have horse access! And very nice of the galloper to let you have a quick ride. You’d think being in the sticks that we’d have more options. I know many people who own them but it’s surprisingly difficult to find people who do trail rides. We went a few years ago when we were on vacation and it was funny that one of the boys was so excited to ride a “pony” (they were horses but he just liked saying pony) and he ended up not being a natural. The other looked like he’d spent his life on a horse. Neither of them loved the experience, though. They were both like “meh”. I’d ride all day, every day, if I could. 🙂
