Ladies, it’s time to spring into action and show winter the door (so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen goodbye!). Next up, spring and summer. 🙂
I’ve already started planning some trips to take advantage of the season. Nothing big — maybe a day trip around the Bay Area and a weekend jaunt up to Lake Tahoe — and one thing I pride myself on when it comes to road trips is being the girl you can count on to bring the snacks, the upbeat music, the GPS (did I mention I have no sense of direction?) and the makeup. If we were road tripping together, most def’ I’d bring along something from the new MAC Art Supplies collection, as it’s one of the most road trip-friendly MAC releases I’ve seen in a long time.

Arriving April 1, the 24-piece bonanza bursts with great-looking on-the-go goodies in pencil and pen form. MAC had self-portraiture in mind when they envisioned the collection, a theme I can really get behind. Aren’t our faces, after all, the canvases upon which we express our own makeup art? Duuuude, that’s kinda poetic, methinks. 🙂

The fact that each item in the collection fits in a pocket is like icing on a 
cake. The Greasepaint Sticks ($17.50), Pearlglide Intense Eyeliners ($14.50) and Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers ($16) make it uber-easy to get ready in a rush.

If you went ga-ga over the Greasepaint Sticks from the DSquared and Style Black collections (I know I did!), then you’re in luck. MAC brought ’em back for a second round in eight new, limited-edition colors. LOVE how flexible these creamy pencils are. You can wear them as eyeshadows, liners or eyeshadow base. Imagine all the smokey eye looks waiting to break free from those adorable chubby pencils…
The colors are unexpectedly dark and edgy and don’t exactly sing spring, but hey it’s MAC, right? Breaking rules is what they do best. 🙂
How do these new Greasepaint Sticks compare to previous ones? As far as I can tell, in terms of texture and wear time, they behave exactly like the OG ones from DSquared and Style Black. While all are new colors, some of them look quite a bit like previous shades…
- Slick Black: Like a non-shimmery, true black version of Style Black Greasepaint (remember how it had just a touch of purple shimmer?)
- Uniformly Blue: I thought of B Greasepaint from DSquared when I first saw it; a little different, though, because it’s blacker and less blue.
- Charred Mauve: Brings back memories of V Greasepaint from DSquared, except darker, with more black than purple

Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers
I’m also tickled pink over the Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers — literally. Their felt-tipped pens deposit a thin layer of pigmented liquid long-wearing stain that lasts for hours, and when I applied Stylesetter (a hot pink), the marker tip tickled my lips. I’m guessing it won’t happen to most people, though, because I’m pretty darn ticklish.

Something else I really like about these is how evenly the color adheres to my lips. You know how some stains darken certain parts of your pucker more than others? These don’t. They deliver an even, buildable coat of color (with a light vanilla taste and scent) that you can ramp up with more layers.

Pearlglide Intense Eye Liners
As for the Pearlglide Intense Eye Liners, Designer Purple (the shimmery violet with light purple glitter) and Petrol Blue (the shimmery bluish black with silver glitter) remind me a lot of past Pearlglide liners. Their silky smooth texture dries quickly, and once it sets, it stays set! Gals who live in hot or humid places might like having these around.

I’ve had pretty good luck with ’em. When I put them on the morning they’re still hanging on past dinner.
I want to green greasepaint stick and the pure black one. Can’t wait to see the lipstains swatch on your lips. They look delicious and juicy and it reminds me of fruit punch.

I want all the greasepaint!!! But I know that’s impossible and it will hurt my wallet… like big time. So need to pick out the right colours. But which? I think I like Dirty the most (ok, that sounded wrong).
I also love lipstains. But I was thinking that we might not be able try it in store, because it’s not sanitary. Even if we can, there’s no way I can try on another colour right after because, you know, it stains!

I guess it depends on what colors you wear often. If you wear taupe shades a lot then Dirty would be a great choice!

How pigmented are your lips? You might be able to pull off some of the darker colors, like Runway Ripened and Sunset.
So I LOVE lipstains and I am on the hunt for the perfect one, lol! Right now I am using the Cover Girl version, but they just don’t last long. Not on the lips but as fars as they dry out in like a month. Have you tried the Cover Girl ones, and how do they compair to MAC. From your swatches I am drooling, lol.
I have tried the Cover Girl ones and to me they’re just okay. I find they stain different parts of my lips more than others!

I usually try not to get caught up in all the MAC hype (don’t hurt me..) but I think I might run out and pick up a Greasepaint Stick in Dirty. I loved the look you did with the greasepaint stick from the Style Black collection layered with Young Punk. Although some MUA reviewers say that the formula doesn’t blend easily.. hm, decisions, decisions.
Hmm, I think one trick is to work with it quickly. I’ve found that once the Greasepaints are dry they don’t move… but when they’re still “wet” they blend fairly easily.
These are a surprise color palette with spring already here, but I like all of the pigmentation. Don’t the prices seem lower than usual for Mac prices or is that just me??
I think the prices are pretty much on point for what’s typical of MAC!
I am so excited about this collection!!! I will be at my MAC counter on April 1 to get these!

I am hoping you can respond to this comment. I LOVE the look of the Dirty greasestick but how do you think it compares to Benefits’ Birthday Suit. Yes, different uses I know but I would probably use Dirty as an e/s base and if it’s very similar to Birthday Suit I may just pass!
Colors are gorgeous! I love the dark colors for the smoky effect and it won’t wear off easily, that’s whats important. I also love the lipstain markers, sexy long lasting effect! Thanks for sharing the collection!
