Cat ladies, it’s really starting to cool off here, and last night, for the first time in months, I had to turn on the heater before bed.
After a summer that the backs of my knees can attest to being one of the stickiest in recent memory, I can’t even begin to tell you what a relief it is to wear long sleeves and socks again! — and I’m more than a little excited about the prospect of putting on makeup without it completely slipping off my sweaty face. ?
Which brings me to this total gem: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Global Glow, a $34 neutral golden tan highlighter. If you want the most delicately divine sheen, look no further.
I wore it yesterday when my parents came over to visit me Connor (Who am I fooling? They’re all about the baby!), and my mom, a self-professed non-makeup person, was like, “Mi hija. I need to have whatever is glowing on your face!”
That’s how much pull Global Glow has, man. It turns a woman who previously thought that highlighters are only those neon markers they sell at Office Depot into a maquillage believer.
Global Glow is one of my all-time favorite highlighters to wear year round, but it’s especially FIYAH ? as the summer winds down and fall kicks in because, if you’re anything like me, this is the time of year when you’re still carrying a little bit of summer color on your face, and Global Glow’s golden tan really complements skin tones from NC20 and up.
If you’re on the fair side, don’t walk away yet! You can also wear Global Glow, but it’ll work more as a shimmery all-over bronzer. (Note: If you’re gonna do this, you gotta be totally down with shiny bronzers, and I recommend using the biggest, fluffiest face brush you can find to diffuse it.)
I’m not a big fan of pairing a dark fall lip with a highlighter that shines from space (I just feel like there’s too much stuff competing for attention), and while Global Glow might seem like a glitter attack waiting to happen when you see it in the compact, once you swipe a little on your upper cheekbones, you’ll look delicately radiant.
I swear, it’ll make everyone around you envy your glowing skin (even ladies who normally eschew makeup).

Hi Karen, I can’t remember if you have dry skin around your cheeks like I have. Do you know how this would do for dry skin? Sometimes I want a light glow but my skin is sensitive to many things (creams, creamy powders).

I do have dry patches, and my cheeks get extra dry in the winter. I think this could handle dry skin, but if you’re super sensitive, you might want to buy it somewhere with a very forgiving return policy (I like Nordstrom).
It looks in the pan like my lips feel in real life (baked and cracking a bit). 🙂 I adore fall but this summer has been so nice, I hate to see it go. Luckily, we’re still looking at a high in the 80s this weekend. Ahhhh.

How are you both doing on that front? This is the first full week for the boys. I wish they still had the love of school that they did before the teenage years. 🙂

Would this be too dark/orangey for porcelain skin with slight pink undertones? It’s too hot to stay outside for any length of time, so I haven’t had any sun to speak of for about three weeks now. I’m having a serious pale situation.

I think this might be a little too deep for you. How do you feel about loose highlighters in jars? Because MAC makes one called Silver Dusk that would be perfect for you!
I think that sounds like a sparkly disaster waiting to happen, lol. But I’ll definitely check it out, because right now I look like Anne Rice is writing about me.
I am not into shimmery bronzers, but I love MAC Candlelight for the same reason. It works so well with the last bit of summer color.
