As the world turns…so turns my head! Now. When I apply blush.
I had a “forehead, meet desk!” moment when this occurred to me, as obvious as it sounds, but up until it did, I was usually looking straight ahead into a mirror when I applied my blush, starting with the brush at the apples of my cheeks and pulling back toward my temples.
For me, this made sense — looking straight ahead into a mirror — because it’s also how I apply my foundation, eye makeup and lip products.
So why wouldn’t it be any different for blush?
Well…when you think about it, how often does someone look at you from directly straight ahead like that? Sometimes, but not always, right? Chances are still good that when Nick Jonas sees you from across that crowded room, he’ll be admiring your blush blending skills from many different angles, and not just the front. He’ll be seeing you from the sides, too. (P.S. I expect an invite to your wedding.)
The other day I turned my head to the side as I applied my blush (like in the pic at the top) and, hello! — it kind of blew my mind. My cheekbones were way more obvious, and it was much easier to tell where I wanted to place my blush. I could also see myself drawing my blush back and toward my temples.
Of course, this also works with bronzer, so if you’re a bronzer babe, first of all, throw your hands up, haaay! Because I feel ya, sista. Not a day goes by for me without bronzer. I feel naked without it.

My #PSL (pumpkin spice latte) obsession is temporarily on hold due to these La Croix Sparkling Waters…
GOOD GRIEF, WOMAN! One week and I’m already addicted to them. They’re muy delicioso, come in a bunch of flavors, and don’t have any calories, sodium or artificial sweeteners. They’re flavored with fruit essence oils, so they aren’t super sweet, but they’re flavorful enough. My favorites so far are the Cherry Lime flavor and the Peach Pear.
So good. I’m craving one right now… I gotta chill though, because yesterday I had three of them.
Not one after another, of course (although I can see that happening), but spread throughout the day. In my defense, it was hotter than the Outback in my condo, and these things are so damn good when they’re cold.
I got them at Target, $3.39 for a pack of eight, but I’ve also seen them at Whole Foods and Amazon.
I guess I’m not the only one who loves them, because whenever I go to Target, there’s only two or three boxes left on the shelf!

I’m completely addicted to sparkling water, so much that we ended up buying a carbonator! I know the La Croix, but I haven’t tried the cherry-lime, it sounds so yummy!
Ah, blush placement… As simple as it sounds, proper blush placement is one of my main makeup issues. For some reason I never seem to get my blush EXACTLY where I want it. My cheekbones aren’t perfectly symmetrical and that doesn’t help. I’ve started exploring blush brushes to see if I could find something that works better, do you have any recommendations?
Cool trick. I’m going to try that tomorrow when I put my makeup on. Hope it’s cooler in your condo today.
I actually always do this with my blush! I didn’t really think about it until you mentioned it but I turn my head about 30 degrees to do it.
I NEED THOSE WATERS! I love the normal Lacroix but Cherry Lime! YUM!

Believe it or not, I’m a head-turning blush applier already. I also make that sort of “suck in your cheek” face so I can *really* see my cheekbones.
I’ve never seen La Croix but will have to check it out at Target. 🙂
Have always done this. It saves me from the ridiculous fish face that I used to do as a beginner!
So obvious, yet I was oblivious to this trick. I will try it today. There’s this one spot on my right cheek that, I can’t even explain it properly, it just doesn’t want to hold blush. So weird. Maybe this technique will help. Thanks.

I think I already do my blush like this, and it definitely makes a difference.
I don’t like sparkling water, but the flavors sure sound nice.
I craved flavored and sparkling water during early pregnancy, especially to help with periods of nausea. It felt good on my tummy. I also couldn’t get enough citrus and fruit flavor!
I noticed this morning that this is the way I apply blush, even my contour and highlight! I learned from Nicole Guerrero to close one eye while working on the other half of your face. A combo of both helps me apply cheek makeup evenly. I’m that girl that alllllways over applies blush LOL
I kind of apply my blush like this. I start applying it on my apples of my cheeks facing the mirror, then I turn my head to get it going towards the temples.
Which mac brush did u use in the photo?
