Have you ever dreamed of uttering that phrase in public?? I know this is a shocker, but I have, and I’m so happy to announce that the dream has finally come true. 🙂
Dun-dun-dun! — introducing the Novato Cat Cafe & Cosmetics, my new business venture.
I know — kind of a funky title, but it gets straight to the point…which is cats, coffee and cosmetics, three of my favorite things.
This has actually been in the works for two years, and it’s been really hard to keep it under wraps, but the investors finally came through, and we secured the perfect space. All that’s left now is to finish construction, hire the resident kitties (pending Tabs’s approval, of course), and bring onboard a talented cat-loving makeup artist to do makeovers (yes, we’ll even have makeovers!), but that’s down the road a little.
If you live in the Bay Area, I’d love for you to stop by when we open. We’ll be serving coffee drinks, selling cat-themed makeup (hello, Paul & Joe cuteness), and you’ll be able to make a reservation to hang out with our adoptable cafe kitties in Kitty Village, our special play area.
We’re hoping to house 15 adoptable kitties at a time, but who knows? If the idea takes off, we may open other franchises around the Bay Area, or heck — across the United States and around the world!
We’re located in downtown Novato by the Trader Joe’s, and the grand opening will be in early June.
We’re taking reservations now for the first two weeks. If you’re in the Bay Area and would like to be one of the very first guests, leave a comment below, and I’ll get in touch with you to schedule a date and time to meet the kitties.

By the way, I think I heard Conan O’Brien (or some other night time talk show host) talk about it during his monologue the other day. Was he talking about you? So surreal!

I’m guessing this is an April Fools’ Day joke, but I’m hoping it’s real anyway because it would be a really fun to be able to have coffee, play with cats, and browse cat themed cosmetics in one place (though I don’t think there’s enough cat theme make up to do this). If you ever did open up a cafe like this, I’d be there–heck, I haven’t even gone to the regular cat cafes yet!

Cat Cafes really do exist! They started in Taipei in 1998, according to the Wikipedia page on cat cafes, and there are loads of them all over the world. We have several in England – there is one in Newcastle called “Mog on the Tyne” (you might need to be British to get that joke!).
And the term “Cat Café” has been officially recognized in the online edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English since August 2015.

I can’t believe in your sleep-deprived state you came up this FAB April Fools joke. You had me going for a second, isn’t there a real cat café (no cosmetics) in Bezerkely? The giveaway for me was by “Trader Joe’s.” I grew up in that neck of the woods, Cherry Street, and I can’t think of a place for Cat Café in the area. Well, the donut shop across the street could work. Is the pharmacy place next to TJ’s still there? That would be a great spot–and TJ’s could cater the kitty food! So much fun to think about–too bad it’s not real.
April Fools? It’s my mom’s birthday today so it was always a ban on jokes in effect at my house 🙂

I totally didn’t think this was an April Fools since Cat Cafes are real- there are some in Georgetown (DC) that I know of. They’re awesome.

We have real cat cafes in Berkeley and SF. One in Novato would be fabulous! Why not, Karen? Do you think Tabs and Conor Claire would mind?
Cat cafes do exist. I live in Montreal and have a couple of them to choose from. So much fun and vegetarian too!! You can have a full meal and dessert all in the company of little furry friends. Cat cafes are so great. 🙂
