Lights, Camera, Action…Bazooka?
LOL! Which one of these things is doin’ its own thing? Maybe someday I’ll figure out what Bazooka, one of four bright shades in Essie’s Poppy Razzi release for summer 2012, is doing in this collection, but until then I’ll just try to enjoy the neon-ness of it all.

Lights (an electric pink), Camera (a brilliant coral), Action (a vibrant orange) and Bazooka (a bright orange) — again, Bazooka? What am I missing?? — are darn near picture-perfect summer shades. All four apply smoothly from my cuticles to nail tips, despite having a formula on the thicker side, which is pretty typical, from my experience, of Essie polishes.
All I need is one coat of Camera (my fave!) or two of Bazooka and Lights. Action, however, likes being babied. It goes on a little streaky, so I usually apply a third coat.
With a good base and top coat, I can get a solid seven days (at least) from these before any signs of chipping.

If you’re thinking about trying the neon nail art mani I mentioned yesterday (highly recommended), colors like these would be perfect.
And if you took a pic and uploaded it to Flickr, you could even use it to enter the Buxom Photo Contest.
I’m just saying. 🙂 That prize has to go to someone.
PRICE: $8 per bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at beauty supply stores and salons
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (the shade, Action, is a little streaky)
Maybe I should go to bed immediately

This Sunday is the big Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. So exciting! I’ll be walking it with my friend Marisol, but I realized/remembered last night that it starts at 7 in the morning.
Uh…that’s early, especially since I live 30 miles away, and parking for the race is basically non-existent. The plan is for Marisol and I to drive part of the way there and then catch a 5:30 shuttle across the bridge into the city.
Easy enough, as long I can get my shizz together early. Like 4 o’clock in the morning early.
Yeegh, I can’t remember the last time I was behind the wheel at 4 in the morning. It’ll be quite the adventure! 🙂 Wish us luck.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love this collection, I have the Camera 🙂
I will be up for work at 4.30, I will be thinking of you 🙂 good luck!
Hi Agata,
I don’t know how you do it! I will need two alarm clocks and a big vat of coffee, that’s for sure. 🙂
Are you going out tonight? Or do you have work early tomorrow? El Hub and I are staying in.
I always set up two alarm clocks, just in case and I drink tons of coffee 🙂
I stayed in last night, I started work at 5am today but hopefully tonight I will go out to dinner with my husband and my friends.
Bazooka is for me. I remember paying 5 cents for the gum in 1992. The good ole days. 🙂
Hi Chris,
Ahh, the good old days!
Have you started your gig at the animal shelter yet?
Lights and Camera are awesome!
Phyrra! Did you change your hair again?
I have serious issues with nail polish staying on my nails, it always seems to chip off as soon as I do anything to do with water, like dishes, or showering. Do you have any recommendations for base and top coats that will help with that? or even what I could do to stop this from happening? Thanks!
Hi Tricia,
I’ve had really good luck with Zoya Color Lock system and use it often:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/beauty-tips/random-acts-of-beauty-7-things-beauty-or-otherwise-currently-rockin-my-world/
For top coats, Seche Vite is awesome. AWESOME!
Gals, I’d love to hear what your fave base/top coats are. Please feel free to add to this thread…
I’ve had good luck with Anchor and Armor, too–I’d say on the whole it’s added an average of 1-2 days to my manicures. Which is good, because I’m averaging like 5 or maybe 6 days instead of the 4 (if I was lucky)!
I do have to top the Armor with a fast dry top coat because I’m the world’s clumsiest girl. I’ve been using Poshe just because putting Seche Vite on top of Armor would be a bit bulky. Poshe is thinner, but dries nice and fast!
Oh, so that does mean I find the Hurry Up! drying drops pretty useless. But now that I’m running out of Anchor and Armor, I can just buy those two instead of another color lock kit!
I like the Anchor and Armor, also. For a top coat lately, I’ve been using Barielle Pro. It makes my nail shine like patent leather. I also tend to use it on the third or fourth day of a mani to extend its life. ^^~~~
Good luck to both of you!! I can’t remember the last time I woke up at 4 am. Yikes!!!
Hi Tracy,
Thank you! I can’t remember the last time I did it either. I’m a morning person, but that’s really early, LOL!
Happy weekend!
LOL, Bazooka! XD
Hi Xero,
Isn’t that so random? LOL!
Happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend?
Best of luck and have fun at the race!
Thanks, Nina! What are you up to this weekend?
Oh, and did ya end up going on a Sephora run?
I did go! Didnt buy anything because I couldnt find that spray water thing you posted about. I need to check if they have it online!
Just errands and brunch w/ my bestie Sunday morning. 🙂 Quiet weekends are my favorite kind!
Of all the shades, Camera is my favorite. I think I have similar colors that match the other three.
I think I’m going to go to bed like NOW with my costume & all.
Are you going to sleep with a tutu on? LOL! I think I may add a fake plastic Hawaiian Lei to my ensemble. That’ll be my costume!
Nah girl I don’t want it to get wrinkled. I will be adding extra coffee cubes to my smoothie that morning.
I’m so jealous, I want to do Bay to Breakers! Except I want to run the wrong direction, ’cause, uh…. salmon. 🙂
Hi Jen,
LOL! I have seen people do that before. It’s weird and kind of funny.
How have you been? Got any plans for the weekend?
I need Camera, it’s so pretty! Can’t wait till they hit the stores here, they are very slow with the Essie releases here! Action is really a special shade to me, the finish seems less glossy too, or is it just me? I kinda like it though! 🙂
Hi Teri,
Yup, it’s like a semi-matte finish. Kinda neat and different! 🙂
What are you up to this weekend?
Camera looks awesome! I don’t like the color of Bazooka, but I kind of want it just for the name 🙂
Hi Let,
Camera is the best, and I’m not just saying that because I love photography. 😉
Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend?
Ooh, they all look great! Think I need to try all of them. Lately I have been quite the nail polish junkie…I just can’t get enough and the summer shades are really exciting…see I’m full on addicted to gorgeous nail colors!
Good luck to you and Marisol!
Hi Nina,
Yeah, me too! There’s been so many great nail launches for summer so far. Don’t you love staring down at your toes and seeing bright colors? I love that.
Anywho, what summer shades have you been loving lately? I can’t seem to get enough of Sonia Kashuk’s Making Waves:

Camera looks gorgeous!
OMG! I love this collection! But Action is so boring
xoxo
Ooo more jellies! I just swatched two shades from Dior Summer Mix, and they look about like this! These would make great budget-friendly options I think 🙂
I love these – jellies are so pretty!
These look amazing! So sheer and cheerful!
The Essie shades reminds me of popsicles 🙂
Ooh!! Camera looks so good!! I can’t buy Essie where I live…but I’ll be going to the States very soon… I may just have to buy it!
Good luck!
Hey Karen, what is your top coat of choice?
I’m having trouble tracking down an effective and affordable one.
YES, I need Lights!!
I don’t even like neon colors but I need Camera!
