When I went to get my bangs trimmed a couple weeks ago my stylist gave me a sample of Orofluido Beauty Elixer (regularly $32 for a 3.38-oz. bottle) and raved on and on about how it was to going to change my life, starting with my hair.
I’d never heard of Orofluido before, but it’s a small indie haircare line a little more popular in Europe than here in the States. They only list two products on their website — the Beauty Elixer that my stylist gave me, and something new called Shine Spray.
The company claims their mix of argan, linseed and Egyptian Cyperus oils (not cypress like the tree) leave hair “silky and disciplined.”
Music to my ears, ma! 🙂
My stylist suggested putting a few drops on damp hair before blow drying (or flat ironing) to add volume and shine.
The product’s much, much thicker than I expected. I put a few drops in my palms, rub them together and then work the oil through my wavy, highlighted hair.
To say I’m impressed would be an understatement. HOLY WOW! This stuff sure pumps up the volume. Typically when I take a blow dryer and flat iron to my head the hair at my crown lies flat, but after using Orofuido my hair has plenty of extra lift and movement. I mean, I’m not used to hair with this much volume. It’s so big that it might even exert its own gravitational pull, for reals!
I did this style last week using a blowdryer, a flat iron and Orofluido Beauty Elixer
The product also tames stray hairs, adds loads of shine, softens and imparts a wonderful warm amber and vanilla scent. I can hardly believe that one product can do so many different things. It’s just awesome.

If you’re trying to stay away from silicones, brace yourself, but it does contain cyclopentasiloxane, cyclotetrasiloxane and dimethiconol… and they happen to be the top three ingredients on the list. 🙁
I’m hoping Beauty Elixer makes its way into larger beauty chains soon because I think it’s downright amazing.

Bummer about the silicones, but it sounds amazing and sure did an awesome job on your hair. It’s so hard to find products that soften and add volume. I need something that does both, too, and it seems like everything I’ve tried does one or the other.

It is hard to find stuff that adds body without that crunchy feeling (mousse, anyone?) What products do you usually use? If this doesn’t work for you, maybe there’s some sort of light, touchable gel that might work.

Do you mix the few drops with some water or something to distribute the product even ?

I rub it between my palms and then distribute it throughout my hair.
I’ve never come across this, but MorocconOil which I use has silicones right up there in the top 3 too. Still, it works a treat and I’m not reacting to it. I love that last look you did 🙂

The salon I work at carries Orofluido! For now I also have just a sample size but really like it!

Well, it’s not really indie, but we also have the Pureology line of haircare products. I use the Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner which are really good! They also make other shampoos and conditioners for different hair types, like there’s a “Smooth” line.
Have you tried Pureology before? I know you recently had a post about that other haircare line whose packaging looked kind of like a rip-off of Pureology.. 😛 (I don’t know which line came first, but I always get a little riled up when I see brands which seem to blatantly rip off the style/design of another brand).
Wow, your hair looks great. This would definitely be a good product for us as we try to get crazy volume styles for the musical…

Are you trying to stay away from hair silicones?
Yep – trying to use shampoos as natural as possible, which means they’re not strong enough to get dissolve silicones (although I use some Aveda styling stuff that has silicones in it, but I’m trying to keep that to a minimum).
Your amazing haircut (love. the. fringe.) inspired me – I called my hairdresser for a cut because I’m in serious need of that and a pick me up, but she’s booked until late December! If only your stylist could come all the way here.. 🙁
Or if only you could come here! Then we could get coffee after you get your hair cut and I get a bang trim. 🙂

What shampoos are you using right now? It’s been a while since I’ve done a strict non-silicone hair routine, but I always like to keep a few on my shelf.

I’ve been using Burt’s Bees for a couple of years now (I usually can’t stick to the same shampoo for more than half a bottle) – the green tea+fennel and the macademia nut ranges, as I find them more moisturising than their other products. I really need a change though, my hair’s been terrible and crazy dry lately. Do you have anything silicone-free and reasonably natural you’d recommend?
The only thing with side-swept bangs is that you have to be good about getting them trimmed, otherwise they get REALLY ANNOYING. I go in about every four weeks because my hair grows fast. Otherwise it ends up all over the place.
I guess great minds think alike, because I was actually going to recommend the Burt’s Bees Green Tea Shampoo/Conditioner (I have it in my shower right now). It’s the best natural/silicone-free option I’ve found so far! If I run into anything new I’ll let you know!

I’ve tried it and it is wonderful, but I like Agadir Argan Oil much much better. It’s about the same price, and in my opinion has an edge on this product. I use them both, only to finish this product, but I’ll be sticking to the Agadir Argan Oil. If you like this, you should try the Agadir – you’ll be blown away!

This sounds exactly like Moroccan Oil except for the fragrance. Moroccan oil smells like a musk with a bit of vanilla.

I tried looking around for reviews done by girls with fine hair and found one on amazon.com. It sounds like she was more concerned about frizz, but doesn’t have any issues with it weighing her hair down.
Kim (a few comments above) says she’s used hair oils before and they weigh her hair down. You might want to ask her if what she likes for fine/thin hair!

I am usually not a fan of silicones and use shampoo and body creams that do not contain silicones but when it comes to hair styling you NEED them! It´s the only thing that offers some heat protection. :o)
I would probably use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to get rid of possible built-up from the `cones but unless you want to let your hair dry on its own (scary thought for me!!) go with the `cones..

My stylist puts in my hair when she starts to blow dry. It really helps to prevent damaging my ends more. I’m hoping to get a bottle next time I go in since I’m just about done some of my other hair products.

There are some indie salons that carry that Orofluido in lots of different cities, call ahead if you don’t wanna traipse across town looking for it. Also, I think the reason it works better is because unlike Moroccan oil, more of the silicones stay on the hair rather than evaporating (specifically cyclotretraxiloxane) which usually aids in extra shine and frizz control. I found applying it mostly to my ends and midlength definitely did make it look like I had more volume on top, but that’s most likely just because there was less product on the top. I too have very thick hair so I would venture to say that girls with fine hair would have trouble figuring out the right amount to use w/out overdoing it.
Karen, in response to your question about anyone knowing about any great new brands, I recently tried a sample of a mask from a brand called J Beverly Hills, which worked really well on my thick damaged hair. I double checked the ingredients list and it looks like there’s a high concentration of Behentrimonium Methosulfate, which is derived from coconut oil (lest anyone think it’s sulfates and it’s drying to the hair, COMPLETELY the opposite). Another famous mask that has lots of the behentrimonium is the Frederic Fekkai technician masque, so if you liked that one the J Beverly Hills might be worth a try.
My hair is very fine and was damaged badly in a hair mishap. I have been using this product for a week and it has completely restored my hair. I am somewhat jaded when it comes to beauty products because most of them never live up to their hype but this one has exceeded my expectations. I quit wearing perfume and everywhere I go people tell me how great I smell. I used orofluido on my skin right out of the shower and it is doing for my skin what it’s done for my hair.
